Bistro Bobette Ratings and Reviews
Lovely experience. Great service, ambience and food. High quality, organic ingredients. Someone cares to the detail . Food presentation excellent. This is not a place to get a huge plate of unknown food and quality for cheap with 5 portions of leftovers for home.
Halibut special outstanding! Grass fed Rib Eye, cooked to perfection. Never had this quality at any steakhouse.
We are looking forward to returning.
This was our first visit to Bistro Bobette and we were impressed by the friendly wait staff and the high quality of the meal we enjoyed. The meat dishes were superbly prepared and seasoned, and there was enough room for an espresso and dessert. The restaurant is small and cozy and we had a relaxing dinner without feeling rushed by the wait staff.
NOTE: Although the restaurant is located in Shockoe Slip, there is a public parking garage right around the corner, which makes it easier to access than some restaurants in the Fan.
We will definitely be back!
Okay food in a trendy atmosphere. Mediocre service as our server was in training. Our drinks took 20 minutes to arrive, and after 30 minutes of waiting I had to ask for bread.
I ordered Foie Gras but it was forgettable. It was somewhere between cold and warm. The exterior was nearly blackened rather than caramelized. I think Goose Liver shouldn't be offered on the menu unless the kitchen has mastered the preparation of it.
My rib eye was ordered medium but came out medium rare. I sent it back but it came back a second time still underdone so I gave up and decided to eat it. Good flavor but they couldn't get the cooking right. I have never had to send back a piece of meat more than once in my life at a restaurant, and wasn't about to start then.
Deserts were fine and Irish cream coffee was excellent. But I wouldn't go back to this restaurant and give it a second chance as there are too many other restaurant choices out there and the experience we had did not warrant it.
Two of us had trout, one had rockfish and one had veal. The trouts were burnt (black skin), the veal overcooked and the rockfish on the border of being burnt. The wine list is great but the waiter was not very helpful selecting a wine when asked how different wines would compare with each other. The ambience of the restaurant is nice and cozy. All in all I expected more for the price of the meal.
Thanksgiving dinner while on the road for a field hockey tournament. While our 16 and 13 year old kids “kinda” struggled with the French take on thanksgiving dinner, they both ended up appreciating, and loving, their turkey dinner. The dessert was obviously the high point for both.
For my wife and I, she could not stop raving about her meal. She had the salmon which I sampled and was awesome. For me, while I was a bit disappointed with the portion size, was just happy to experience the whole “on the road” Thanksgiving evening in a nice, alternative restaurant in Richmond.
Our waiter was awesome and the owner very gracious with changing our reservation when we called from the road on the way down. A different thanksgiving dinner experience that we will all remember fondly.
Thanksgiving dinner was our first opportunity to try Bistro Bobette, and unquestionably a holiday is a bad time to try a new restaurant. The food was okay and the service staff pleasant but not professional. Here’s why:
I ordered a bourbon Manhattan, up, but it came on the rocks so I sent it back. Apologies. When it returned up, it was weak and too sweet with maraschino cherry juice, like a Shirley Temple. Ugh!
As soon as we placed our orders, soups showed up, even before our bread or our soup spoons. It turned out that they weren’t our soups, so we returned them. More apologies.
When the baguette slices showed up they were warm and tasty, but two of them had slightly cold centers. They mentioned that their bread was not homemade. I had already figured that out!
My turkey dinner was tasty enough, but my serving had too much skin and it wasn’t crispy. The vegetable medley that stood in for dressing had good flavor, but it was drowned in gravy, along with the turkey. The green beans were good.
I had the pumpkin tart for dessert and the pumpkin filling was very good but the pastry was dry and tasteless.
My husband fared better than me. His martini was served as he requested, his steak was good (although he asked for medium rare and the waiter returned to say it could only be served medium to medium-well), and his spinach was very good. His only disappointment were the French fries.
The winners that evening were the soups (acorn squash bisque for me and oyster chowder for him) and his dessert (chocolate mousse).
In spite of this, we are planning to give Bistro Bobette a second chance on a non-holiday occasion real soon.
I had never been to Bistro Bobette. It was my boyfriend and my 7 year anniversary. I wanted somewhere special. I booked online and called to see if they could do anything special. We were given this beautiful liquor, on the house. Our waiter was amazing. Very attentive. The food was perfect. I can't wait to go back!
A thoroughly enjoyable experience, from the food to the service to the ambiance. This was our first visit to Richmond, so we were especially happy that the restaurant is in one of the historic areas, with cobblestone streets. Our meal included ahi tuna tartare, rosemary pecans and a chicken-stock-based soup as appetizers and entre specials grilled Arctic Char and Red Snapper and, for dessert, chocolate mousse . All delicious. I'd heartily recommend Bistro Bobette.
Second visit to this restaurant. My wife started with a Cresson soup and I had avocado with crab.
Soup was good and avocado excellent but very small. Then we shared the ravioli filled with faisant and garnished with mushrooms. Delicious but also very small condidering it was presented as a main dish but it looked like an appetizer.
We selected a ex elldnt Bordeaux red out of the very extensive wine menu.
As a main dish my wife had a salmon. Was ok but no special taste or presentation. I choose for the rabbit. Excellent choice but again my rabbit was only one little leg. Excellent preparation but to little.
Luckely we had room for a dessert. My wife had an excellent chocolate mousse. My dessert, peche melba, was dissapointing. 1 tiny scoop of vanilla ice with a nesrly dried out piece of pear.
I am Belgiam, worked in Paris. In France this restaurant would be quoted as medium good.
Here in tbe US I give it a good-very good if their dishes would be more generously filled because they know how to cook.
Service was excellent.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We found this restaurant on OpenTable and took a chance. It was a wonderful wonderful meal.
David our server tended to our every need and the meal itself was tasty beyond belief.
Real French food without the pretension
A friend had suggested that my significant other and I try this eatery and his observations were right on ...... delicious, beautifully prepared food and attentive wait staff. We opened our meal with an Ahi tuna appetizer that was light and delicious. For our main entre, we chose the rack of veal and the only thing one can say is ...... heavenly - perfectly cooked with a light, tasty sauce that simply complemented the meat. The seasonal vegetables were delicious and prepared beautifully. Our principal waiter, David, was not only helpful with observations about the menu, but unobtrusively attended our table perfectly. The evening was one to remember fondly and to repeat numerous times.
Waited 1 hour to be served. Told by waiter at 25 Minute mark that they weren’t taking food orders because the chef was particular about ordering. Ridiculous! To add insult to injury, they charged us for the drinks that took 35 minutes to bring to the table.
Out of self interest I really should not write anything positive here because then it will become deservedly popular and then so much more difficult to get a table at a small but great restaurant with great ambiance, great food, great wine and great staff/servers at a great value.
Absolutely amazing!!!! Last minute pick for a date night and we both left raving about our meals. The wine list was incredible, the bistro steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly and the curry ketchup made me reevaluate life. And the desserts...in love!!!! Definitely will be going back soon!
I have found that anytime I go to a new restaurant there is always a risk. A risk of poor service, poorly prepared food, etc. However, the moment my guest and I walked through the door we knew this was going to be a positive experience. The occasion was very special for me and my granddaughter and the service and food exceeded our expectations. My granddaughter had this to say about the experience: "Well..., we had an amazing experience. The food was amazing and the server (Jamil) was very kind and helpful through the entire meal; overall making the experience one to remember." We will find a reason to return very soon. Thank you very much.
everything was pretty good for the most part. took about a half an hour to get our two glasses of wine. and about another hour before the food came out. pretty High prices and not much of an experience. like the food was good, but it didnt feel like it was worth it at all.
Another great dinner at Bistro Bobette. This time we joined the special 'Celebrate Julia' 3-course dinner offered. Whenever you dine here, it is as if you were back in a small bistro in Paris. The food and wine are absolutely authentic, honest, and created with care. Highly recommend.
Research revealed very few authentic French restaurants in Richmond.
We were very happy with the authentic meal choices.
The staff were very accomodating to our 9 month old and were very friendly, talkative and knowledgeable of the food/wines and other Richmond venues.
As our server entertained our baby, the bartender gave us other restaurant reccomendations.
The food was excellent and the service was enjoyable!
