I was excited to bring two of my best friends to this restaurant because I had previously had such a great experience several times. This time, our waiter continued to forget small requests and I think, because there was a large group in another room, our food was only average. I was disappointed.
The atmosphere was nice, and the staff all very friendly. The appetizers (pate and oxtail raviole) were very tasty. The server didn’t seem to know a lot about the wine list and mostly just read it back to us when we asked for recommendations. Entrees (salmon and baked flounder) were beautifully plated but their flavors did not live up to the plating. We had blueberry sabayon for dessert and that was very good. Overall everything was fine but for the price we paid expected better than that.
Even though we had an existing open table reservation for 2:30 PM we were turned away. We arrived at 2:34 PM and we had called the restaurant to let them know we’d be a few minutes late. They said they did not have a reservation for us and that the kitchen was closed. About five minutes after we left the restaurant we received an email from OpenTable asking us why we didn’t show up for our reservation.
Best quality restaurant in Richmond, Virginia, hands down. We have never had a disappointing experience..
Love the many steak/meat options.
Any fish on the menu is always perfectly cooked, dressed and presented. The salmon is wild, organic, rarely found in other places .
Get any of the house made desserts, creme brulee, chocolate mouse to die for.
Overall excellent fare, attentive service, superb atmosphere!
We had our waiter forget to put in our appetizer and we got it after the meal. There were no apologies, it was boxed up and we still had to pay for it.
Beautiful decor, fantastic service. Food is to die for. My new favorite place in RVA. My new go to for special events and occasions.
On a Thursday night it was empty. Main course (rockfish) was delicious, staff was great. Had the carbonara app that was very bad tasting, but they took it off the bill, so overall happy.
We and many other diners at Bistro Bobette had an outrageously poor dining experience on Christmas Day (2019)! The service was unbelievably inattentive and inept. The food was only ok. Do yourself a favor and read the recent reviews on Yelp and Google before making a reservation here. You will easily see what is going on at this place with poor reviews on the service, cuisine, and the chef-owner’s attitude toward diners. It’s too bad...this was one a very fine restaurant. Our last 3 visits have been increasingly worse.
Wasn't crowded and food was brought out at a leisurely pace. Good service ands food quality was very good.
THIS IS THE RESTAURANT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR. EXCELLENT FOOD, ABSOLUTELY PERFECT WAITSTAFF, EXCELLENT PRICES...AND QUIET! I DISLIKE GOING TO A NICE RESTAURANT AND IT SOUNDS LIKE A FRATERNITY PARTY. I WILL RETURN SOON.
It perfectly met our needs/wants/expectations. My mother and I did not want to cook, but also didn't want a crowded setting with limited choices. This was just right for us in every way.
Food was very good and the wine list reasonable for the most part. Nice selection in the moderate range. Nice wine glasses was a plus.
Reservation @ 6:00pm, after 45 mins had to ask for bread, after an hour we finally got our soup. After 1 1/2 hours and we had not received our meal when everyone that came after us had. We checked out having not received our meal. The chef was rude to my wife and handled the whole situation horribly. Will not recommend and will not return. Sad.
Great French cooking and continental ambiance complemented by professional waiter service. What’s not to like? Had a memorable birthday dinner here — and came all the way from Washington DC to enjoy it.
Bistro Bobette was OK. The food was fine, the servers were friendly, if a little disorganized. The whole experience was fine, but with so many great places in a Richmond, I won’t return.
Authentic French cuisine in a slightly bohemian setting; lunch service certainly acceptable though not quite up expectations for the pricerange. We had a wonderful seafood crepe on special with a side of frites and sauteed brussels spouts, plus a bistro steak and frites. Delightful profiteroles for desserts, as good as any you'll have in Paris. Bon appetit!
We are not in the Richmond area too often, but when we are Bistro Bobette is our first choice. We have been acquainted with Francis and Wendy for at least a decade. The food is c'est magnifique, service is outstanding and the wine list is top shelf.
First visit to the Bistro. Enjoyed our meal, which was Thanksgiving dinner (special menu choices) for us during a holiday visit to Richmond. Will try it again when we have a chance to sample offerings from their regular menu. Cannot fault the staff and service—accommodating, friendly, and personable! Small space and just a bit quirky—which we enjoyed!
Went on Thanksgiving. There was a prix fixed menu. The food was underwhelming, so was the service. My first course of pear, endive and celeriac salad could have been great, but the ingredients weren't fresh enough, the dressing was blah and the added bits of avocado seemed out of place. Main course of turkey was tepid, though the sides of stuffing and Brussels sprouts were ok. The dessert was a disaster. Pumpkin tart - indifferent pumpkin puree piped onto a slab of dry puff pastry. The replacement chocolate mousse could have been made by any competent home cook. My companion's apple crepes were cold and looked leathery. The couple dining next to us looked like they didn't enjoy their meal either, and were eager to leave. A disappointing experience overall.
Bistro Bobette was a great place to celebrate my wife's Birthday. The Trout was perfect and the wine went well it. We love the Bottom so it was nice to be there.
exquisite, a real gem. European cuisine (escargot, duck, venison etc) and a charming environment.
Poor and slow service. The food was OK.
We had an early reservation and were surprised that this restaurant had very few patrons. We enjoyed sitting on the banquette. The service was quite attentive. The food was absolutely fantastic. My lamb chops were perfectly cooked and the sauce was a perfect accompaniment. The recommended bottle of wine also was a perfect choice. Highly recommended for French food and a perfect for a date at a cafe.
World-class delicious outstanding French cuisine at a reaonable price. Wine selection is also excellent and good value.
Been here before. Excellent food, attentive waiters pleasant surroundings. Wine list represents great value at all levels.
Fantastic food and service!
This charming little Bistro is in the old colonial trading area of Richmond. Food is excellent and just an all around great place.
Cool relaxed atmosphere. Authentic casual Bistro food, with an amazing presentation. Food was outstanding. Stuffed Quail over the top! Rib eye, grass fed, wow!
Oxtail ravioli so flavorful! Escargot, a must.
Extensive French wine and cocktail list. Fun bar scene, while small, seems like a local hang out.
Lovely unobtrusive service. Don't miss one of the desserts. Well worth it. Highly recommended.
The food was excellent!!! I had the rabbit and while I was happy with what I ordered, my wife's lamb three way was outstanding!
We hope our very bad experience was an exception for this well rated place. The service was very slow and the waiters seemed to be either very tired or inebriated. One of the waiter kept pouring regular water in the glasses used for sparkling water, the wine glass we ordered arrived 15min after when we checked for it. The food quality was really bad: undercooked foie gras charged $19, overcooked sea bass charged $26, salmon plate drown in lot of oil and with a plastic taste, bread with mold...
With all the other wonderful options in Richmond, I would not recommend Bistro Babette.
The food was good - not great, but good.
The service was horrible. It took more than 53 minutes from when our plates were cleared and we got our bill. We were not asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. We just sat in uncomfortable chairs until we flagged our server down to get our bill.
The staff was amazing, the food was top quality and I would highly recommend the place! Authentic!
Very cool restaurant with great atmosphere and delicious food. Our server was very attentive and helpful with ordering and she timed all of our food perfectly. We had cocktails (I had the Bobette and loved it), oxtail ravioli appetizer as well as the foi gras and both were perfectly prepared as well as delicious. Our entrees were the rabbit & I had the stuffed quail. We ate every bit and couldn't have been more satisfied with the elegant presentation as well as flavors. I wish this place was a little closer to our home because there were several items on the menu I would love to try but we just make the trip anyway! Outstanding birthday dinner and concert a couple blocks over at the National and what else could you want? The bar looked very welcoming too for a night of tapas.
The food was okay not worth a second trip. The so called sommelier/waiter was not well trained versed in the wine nor the food.
This is a very unique place. Great for date nights. The food is great and at a good price. Definitely try this place out!!
Absolutely amazing as always. Thank you for a wonderful experience again!
A fine place, very French atmosphere. We liked a lot and most likely will go back.
Delightful elegant little bistro in Shockoe Slip. Sweet servers, delicious food, nice range of options -traditional French bistro cuisine well executed.
