Bistro Bistro Ratings and Reviews
The mussels and the service were okay, but the place had a bit of a touristy feel to the menu...a little too much of everything to please everyone. As for the ambiance, the place itself is nice, but the music was absolutely awful. "My Heart Will Go On" covered on the pan flute? Really? My two cents: there are better french places in town for the price.
This restaurant may have some French bistro-like decor, but the food seems more like an American diner serving bistro-like items on its menu. The menu items look attractive, however the execution is something else. The onion soup was watery and tasteless. The veal chop was not cooked as requested. The steak was OK. The bread served appears to be factory-made dinner rolls.
The food was outstanding, and it came out so fast! Usually when I go out to dinner in Dupont Circle on a Friday night it takes half an hour to even order. Here, we had our appetizers within 15. The wait staff was friendly, but they seemed a little rushed/brisk with us. Overall though it was great. I will definitely be back.
This is a sort of a bistro knockoff, with "frenchie" paintings and decor adorning the walls that are reminiscent of a college girl's ikea furnished apartment, rather than an actual bistro in paris. The food was also simulacrum, not bad or poorly prepared, just reminiscent of something you might get on a cruiseship. A bufala mozzerella (Italian I know) was served, however it was definitely not bufala mozz, rather just plain mozz, the tomato was similiarly mass farmed. The salmon was overcooked, my veal chop was tasty, though also a touch overcooked.
The service was excellent, waiter always present, the food came out extremely rapidly.
All in all, given the price not bad, but Bistro de Coin kills this place.
Would recommend as a great date place, but maybe not as a business meeting location. Recently held a business meeting/dinner upstairs. Was told noise level would be quiet, but since it is an open air area, the restaurant noise did interfere with the meeting.
I originally signed up for a party of 12 but called and changed the number to 15. The table was ready on time and the service was awesome! Although I did not mention that we were there for a birthday, they somehow found out and brought out 3 bottles of Brut with sparklers for the birthday boy! This was my first time there for dinner and I will definitely go back!
Excellent value on their prefix menu, includes a cocktail and glass of wine with the meal. All the food was tasty, but not exceptional. I would recommend avoiding the seafood pasta, as I think some of the seafood was not super fresh. Decent French food, average wine list. Our server was not very attentive and often had to be flagged down. The best thing this place has going for it is the location and the decor.
Visited for brunch. Loved the buffett and the wide variety of options available (both typical brunch foods as well as French delights). Also enjoyed the made-to-order omelettes and belgian waffles. Definitely planning to go again sometime! Very low key atmosphere and the waiter gave us lots of privacy but remained attentive.
"Wow," I thought, when we arrived for Sunday brunch. How come I've never been here before? I hesitate to be too glowing in my review of Bistro Bistro because I was so happy there was no waiting for a table, and I don't want that to change. Incredible and ample selection of b/fast and lunch items, some with French flair, some traditional eggs-and-bacon selections. Relaxing, great food, great ambiance. One qualm: WHERE WERE THE CROISSANTS????
At the start, I was thoroughly underwhelmed with our waiter who brought drinks out late, took only some of our orders before dashing off, and brought out 2 different beverages for me b/c he forgot I changed my order. That's the bad. Now the good: the manager came over to do a regular floor check ~20min in and I informed him of the above situation. He not only jumped right in and started bringing us drinks, but brought us a free bottle of champagne at the end of the night, and ensured all our needs were attended to. In the main we had a lovely time. Food was delish. Best mojitos I've ever had (though we had the bar tender remake round II, since it didn't immediately taste like round I)
Went with a large group for a friend's birthday. The staff was AMAZING and so attentive. They comped her meal, and gave us free cake and champagne (they even brought out the champagne with HUGE sparklers on them for and sang happy birthday!
We are DEFINITELY going back.
Bistro bistro provided good food and quite good service in a casual, unpretentious neighborhood bistro. The house Sangria, made with Vin Rose, was tasty, the mussels and salads were great, but the main courses were variable. Prices were reasonable, especially in view of the Dupont Circle location.
Bistro Bistro holds itself out as French, but the menu is dominated by Italian dishes, many of them featuring tomato sauces. The pasta dish one of us tried was overwhelmed by its sauce and only one appetizer, the lamb and beef sausage, had balanced seasoning. The wine list is undistinguished, even for a bistro.
The waiter was very attentive without being overbearing. We stayed here for a couple of hours and didn't even notice the time. I had the lamb stew and it was delicious. They offered raw oysters for a dollar each. These oysters were the biggest I have ever seen. We also got complimentary sangrias. This place knew how to treat their customers!
Had a great time for my friend's birthday. Bistro Bistro was incredibly accommodating for our large group at the last minute, and even brought out complimentary champagne for the birthday boy and let us serve a cake we brought with us. Would definitely go back.
My second time at this French bistro was not quite as enjoyable as my first. Firstly, I was not welcomed by any kind of host or Maitre'D. I was told to seat myself. This created a problem later on with Open Table as the restaurant reported me having missed my reservation. Make sure that you get checked in if you do not want to be reported as a "no show."
The food is definitely hit or miss. The cordon bleu is crispy but delicious. The mussels, on the other hand, were somewhat disappointing. Several in my particular order were undercooked, others were overcooked, and many of the shells were broken.
We enjoyed our dinner--a caesar, fried calamari, the grilled seafood plate, and the chocolate souffle for dessert. Even shared, it ended up being quite a lot of food, and all of it was well prepared and tasty. The seafood mixed grill was drizzled in a fairly heavy, seasoned oil--probably a bit more oil that I'd have liked, but all was tasty. Service was quite good up to the end. We did have some trouble getting our check, though it may be that our server was letting me enjoy my coffee. Overall a good meal.
Had a large group dinner at bistro bistro recently - have been there previously for a girls night out and knew they handled large groups well. SUPER reasonable food and wine; the service was great. We even got a complimentary bottle of champagne because it was a birthday dinner and some of the dishes were a bit slow to come out. No, it's not 'authentic French.' I haven't been anywhere in this city that is, to include bistro du coin, but it's a great fusion restaurant and they subscribe to the belief that simplicity is best. Great experience, would highly recommend for groups!
We went to Bistro Bistro from out of town. Availability was good and price was a factor. We also went with a two year old. The food was good. The waiter had a large accent and was tough to understand. Our table was right next to the bar which was not optimal for our party with the 2 year old. Our reservation was at 7:00 which seemed to be about a half hour before the dinner crowd hit. There was a line to get in after 7:30pm.
I accidentally wrote this review and gave it to the wrong restaurant! Bistro Bostro (not Nage)was fantastic! We were in town for a conference and discovered this fabulous bistro that ranges from Italian to duck confit and everything was delicious- great calamari and the chicken cordon bleu was fantastic. We also had mussles, pasta, osso bucco and flounder- everything was excellent. Nice, diverse wine list, very reasonable prices overall and friendly knowledgeable service- ask for William!
We made a reservation 2 days prior for my birthday celebration. It was for 13 people on a Saturday night at 8:30. When we got there, they had our name, but gave our table away to another party?? We had to wait over 30 minutes for them to get 2 round tables and put together right next to the kitchen! It took another 20 minutes for our drink order. The other wait staff was comical as they ran around dropping stuff and almost falling RUNNING down the stairs every 5 minutes. I asked our waitress for the manager to come over 3 times. He never showed up. It took another 30 minutes after we were done with our meal to get the check after asking a few times. The food was OK, but nothing to rave about. The poor service was completely unacceptable.
