Bistro Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Hosted a party of seven on a recent Sunday night. Good selection of European food that was competently prepared (not amazing, but not terrible) and at decent enough prices (for DC, that it! -- With wine, appetizers, main courses and tips, it came out to about $60 per person.)
The place seemed mostly empty, which was a little sad. But, it made for a nice conversation! There was one extra thing that played hugely in their favor, and another that didn't:
The Really Good: We were given a completely free tray of desserts for the table! I'd guess that maybe we were the largest party they'd had in a while, or that the desserts were about to go bad -- or both. Either way, free dessert!
The Pretty Bad: They screwed up our split checks on the first round (they split it evenly among five checks, instead of putting two portions on two cards and three portions on three cards as requested.)
So, if you're looking for a decently-priced meal at a quiet place with a wide selection of European foods in Dupont, this'll do the job -- just keep an eye on your check!
I celebrated my birthday with a group of 25 friends at Bistro Bistro. The staff was very helpful setting our table and adding more tables as people walked in. I didn't have to worry about setting up or cleaning afterwards. They did all the hard work, and I was able to socialize with my friends. They also brought me a bottle of champagne with sparkles, along with the cake that I brought, to sing "Happy Birthday".
The place was clean, ope, airy and indoors, and in the middle of Dupont Circle. It was good to have the event in the mid-afternoon so they could focus on our group.
All in all, it was a great experience and everyone enjoyed it, especially me, the birthday girl.
First of all ,Thanks Bistro Bistro for such a beautiful night. The food, the service and the ambiance were amazing.William
And his staff did an an excellent job on accommodating a great selection of wine and food .we really enjoyed our night out. Thanks William and Bistro Bistro for a great night.
I made the reservation based on the ad for brunch buffet that's on the website, but was told by the server when we arrived that they only have buffet on holidays. Also. was happy that the server provided us with a bottomless mimosa deal when we had decided to leave.
The restaurant was not crowded, but the service was still a bit slow. We tried to order 2 different bottles of wine, both of which were not actually in stock. The waiter brought a suggested alternative which wasn't even on the wine list and it was just ok.
Food overall was very good, classic French bistro dishes plus some Italian options. Reasonably priced, decor atmosphere better suite for a family meal than a business meal.
Went to lunch, near empty restaurant. Ordered trout. Tasted spoiled, like sour milk, so sent it back. Waiter looked at the one bite I had taken, and scornfully said, well I'll finish it.
He came back later and apologized, said he had tried the fish and I was right, it was bad. Would have been nice to have been believed in the first place.
Also, website needs updating. Prices on menu were 20% higher than listed online.
So we went here for a friends birthday because of a review here and the birthday special the restaurant advertises. Their website says "FREE dinner with Champagne and a cake for the birthday person For parties of six and up" and we had a party of 8. When we arrived to the restaurant half of our party was already seated and I am not sure if he had already introduced himself to the others but he never introduced himself to us or came around to ask what drinks we wanted or gave us a wine list. Eventually we got water and then asked for our other drinks. I had made a note on the open table reservation about wanting the birthday special but I wasn't sure if our server knew so I asked about it and told him who it was for. He seemed to want it to be secrative despite the birthday person being included in the conversation. The food took a very long time despite no one else really being there and was alright, you get what you pay for, but we did have to send a dish back. At the end of dinner they turned out all the lights and brought out a sparkler attached to a champagne bottle and sang happy birthday. It was nice and all but they seemed not to be familiar with the details of a cake and free dinner.
Bottom line, don't come here and spend your birthday somewhere else. Slow service, not great food, and an undelivered birthday special.
I took my cousin here for her birthday. We were a group of 7 ladies. I booked the restaurant because of the birthday special on their website. The restaurant is incredibly generous with that special - free food, champagne, and cake for the birthday celebrant - with a group of 6+. Along with the great birthday special, we were placed at a long table right in front of the large open window that leads into the patio. It made for excellent people watching that evening. Some food items were a hit or miss, overall we were satisfied with the food. There is great variety in the selection, which is always good when you have vegetarians and selective eaters in the mix. The service was a little slow, and our server apologized throughout the evening because they were under staffed that night.
I would recommend this restaurant, and definitely take advantage of the birthday special!
The server was rude. He rushed us to order and tried to control what we were going to order. We were a group of kids preparing to go to prom. He took advantage of us. We ask him for separate checks and he refused. It took us 30 minutes to pay. He gave one person a burnt pizza and only took $4 off. At the end he offered us a bottle of alcohol.
We had a 9 p.m. reservation for dinner. When our party of 3 arrived, there was no host but we were eventually noticed by an S.A. who invited us to sit either at a table next to a very loud, very drunk party of 10, or at a table in the back of the restaurant. We said we would prefer a table in the back and he gestured for us to choose one. When we attempted to sit down, the manager (owner?) accosted us rudely and said very aggressively that we could not sit there, the area was closed.
There were SEVERAL open tables at the front area of the restaurant, which was apparently open as other diners were being served there, but the man INSISTED that we sit directly beside the large party. They were so loud and inappropriate that we could not hear one another or focus on reading the menu. However the food looked and smelled amazing, so we were committed to sticking it out, at first.
The manager and our waiter acted like it was a huge inconvenience to have us there. You would have thought we walked in five minutes before closing time. During a five minute period, they came to the table four different times asking if we were ready to order. The manager even said, "if you can't decide what you want, you should just order the lasagna." I finally told him to give us a chance to read the menu and we would let him know when we had decided.
By that point however, the large party beside us had grown even louder and we were so irritated by the hateful way we'd been treated by the waitstaff that we decided to leave.
I had been wanting to eat at Bistro Bistro for awhile (we live in Richmond, VA) and we were all very excited to try them out. But our reception was so poor that we dined instead at Sette Osteria, where we have often eaten before, and where the service is always impeccable.
The Bistro Bistro menu offerings looked very good and it's a shame we couldn't try them out. Prices on food were very reasonable. The mark up on wine was outrageous.
Stumbled upon Bistro Bistro quite by accident, and very happy we did. The food was excellent. I'm a very picky eater and there was plenty on the menu for me. I had the lobster ravioli and my husband had a chicken dish. Both were excellent. Service was great.
Food was really average for a so called French restaurant. We paid our check with cash and when leaving outside in the street were litterally chased by waiter telling us that our check was uncomplete despite that we counted the money twice. We are convinced that someone took a 20 dollar bill out of check as we were departing.
We paid again the missing 20 $ but found the attitude of waiter and management very rude. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
This restaurant was adequate but not a place we will be rushing back to. One of us had a good meal while the other was disappointed, in part because they relied on a waiter recommendation that was not useful. Also, the restaurant was very empty on a Saturday evening when all the nearby restaurants were very full. Suggests that others have not had great experiences either.
Bistro Bistro? No No! Our family loves bistros--sophisticated French food for the grown-ups, simple classics for the kids. Bistro Bistro was very disappointing. Caesar salad was okay--small, and cheese appeared to be from a can, but okay. Mussels a la mariniere were rubbery and tasted funny. Steak salad greens were fine, but the steak was gross in texture and taste and the dressing, which was supposed to be Balsamic, was a sort of creamy carrot dressing. My daughter ordered a hamburger, no cheese--she got a cheese burger and the waiter insisted she had asked for cheese. Okay... She scraped off the cheese but couldn't eat the burger, which she said tasted like sausage. The winner was the steak frites: the steak was a soggy, grey slab of meat covered in a weird, Lipton-like gravy. I asked the waiter if it had been microwaved or just boiled. He said I should have ordered it medium well done. This was honestly one of the worst meals I have ever had in a restaurant--so bad it was almost funny.
Great Ambiance, relaxing and friendly staff.
I came here for my friend's birthday because they provide a free dinner for the birthday person as well as glass of champagne for the whole party.
we were so happy coming to Bistro Bistro, the staff was very friendly and professional, the food was devine especially the mussels.
I wonder why their open table has some bad reviews but I guess in 100 people 99 happy won't write a review and the only unhappy 1% will write.
It really was a great atmosphere. and I recommend Bistro Bistro so highly. especially for big parties.
I visited Bistro Bistro in the afternoon on a weekday. It was a quiet atmosphere. I have a wheelchair and there were several low steps to get into the restaurant. I had to get out of my chair and lift it over them. I found out later that the restaurant has a steel ramp that they can put down. There is no railing on the ramp but it worked fine for me to exit the restaurant while seated in my wheelchair. The food was rich and tasty, well presented and visually appealing. The waiter was attentive and polite. The location is right near Dupont Circle area so very convenient for those visiting that area. It was a lovely spring day so the windows on the street side of the restaurant were fully open allowing for some customers to sit and watch people as they passed on the street while getting the fresh air. Thus a good place for people watching with an air of the open cafe while still seated indoors. I come always with my service dog and he was accepted without question and they moved two chairs to make space on the floor for him to lie down and for me to sit at the table. The place has a quiet atmosphere good for conversation.
I like the ambiance in this place. It's very open and spacious. Food was so delicious, the deeping sauce is something to die for and a got a very nice pasta sea food I loved it.
Service was the best! Even if it was full but they were attentive.
I like the windows that open when the weather is nice...
Bathroom test... pass! Very clean.
Highly Recommend place
