Bistro Barberet & Bakery
This restaurant presents a sweeping cinematic interpretation of the French lifestyle. It also offer some flawless brasserie classics like steak frites, escargots and Bouillabaise the menu is wide enough to please, while remaining true to the traditions that inspired it.
First time for us. Great food. Would have liked white table cloths-a bit of French formality. Our poor waitress dropped my soup appetizer and it splashed on my legs and feet. She comped our dessert-nice of her. We’ll return-hard to get real French food these days.
A small Lancaster treasure. LOVE this restaurant and the ambiance. Great service. And it was a very uncrowded night so very quiet. The food is incomparably good!
Have not done much French cuisine dining, but elected to try this based on a friend's recommendation. Food was outstanding! Nice & interesting cocktail list as well. After dinner, you have option of ordering dessert off menu or visiting their adjacent bakery with homemade desserts. Tons (actually too many) to choose from. Highly recommend.
Best eats in Lancaster. Exceptional French bistro food.
Always a lovely meal and ambience.
Excellent as usual ! Our favorite restaurant in Lancaster County!
Just OK. One large room akin to just a large barroom, with tables along the walls and a large bar against one entire wall. Definitely not a romantic place, but ok for a group of friends. Food was good but not at all memorable. Wine glass barely half filled. Coffee was not good. Waiter dropped a knife covered with cream sauce on the shoulder of my brand new suit as he was clearing the table (the first time wearing it). I know mistakes happen, but I obviously was going to have to get it dry cleaned...but no comp of dessert/coffee as I would have expected for such an unfortunate blunder.
Met some friends here for the first time. You have to walk through the bakery to get inside the main restaurant. Bakery items looked so delicious that we bought many to take home after dinner.
Service was prompt and professional. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meals.
We love this Bistro. Food and service is always excellent. This time our waiter while excellent was soft spoken so with the holiday cheer around us it was difficulty to hear him. Other than this the evening was wonderful. Compliments to the chef who always prepares delicious food with the utmost consistency.
Awesome on every level!! We were hosting family new to the restaurant ... very impressed... New Years Eve 20’s costuming and decor were a nice addition to the evening... Food and service on point, as always!! One of the best restaurants in Lancaster!
Daughter visiting from CO for the holidays
Great food great service as always
Such wonderful food and the owners are soooo nice
Always amazing. The Poulet (chicken) au Jus was expertly prepared. My husband had a crab and scallop cake which he said was incredible. Presentation of this dish was spectacular. Desserts from the bakery are so beautiful it is hard to choose. We love Barberet and are grateful they chose Lancaster for their bakery and Bistro. When I miss France it's only a half hour drive to make me imagine I am there. Merci a tous!
Enjoyed the evening celebrating Christmas with friends over dinner. Each of us loved the food and drinks we ordered. The blackberry margarita and lamb shank was a real treat.
Great dinner location for our anniversary. Seated quickly, quick service, and great drinks/food. Will definitely go again.
One of the best place to go for afterwork or simply to enjoy a nice cocktail. The bartenders are really friendly and they make incredible cocktail.
The food is one of the finest in Lancaster and you definitely feel the french touch.
Last but not least at the end of your meal you can enjoy one of the wonderful desert of the bakery !
Basically my favourite place in Lancaster
A lovely corner of France in downtown Lancaster
We had a terrific lunch on Thursday at the Bistro Barberet. I have lived in France and travel there often, and it felt like coming home. I lunched with my 93 year-old father (who had lived in Paris for 3 years) and my 30 year-old daughter who is my frequent France travel buddy. All three of us were so happy with everything we chose to eat. This is classic French bistro food at its best. It's not fancy or pretentious, just delicious, and served by friendly staff in a welcoming environment. I can recommend it without hesitation to anyone who just wants a tasty enjoyable lunch or dinner at a reasonable price.
Our ‘go to’ restaurant. Unfortunately the service was slow. Which is unusual for this restaurant. Not sure if the wheels came off in the kitchen. A simple explanation from our waiter would have sufficed. St least we would have been a little more understanding.
sorry for your wait and we do apology for this and it seems like First Friday is always a bit of challenge during that specific day as everyone always comes in ounce but it does not matter on the issues that we should of been better at it, so please accept our most sincere apology, Cedric BARBERET
We always enjoy our time at Bistro Barberet. Delicious cocktails, meals, and desserts. And let’s not forget the delicious basket of bread that is served before your meal. It is our little touch of France in the heart of Lancaster city!
Always good food. Really like the quenelles tonight. I will come back.
Great service and food
A wonderful meal with wonderful atmosphere and service!
I did the $35 prix fixe menu and what a great value. Escargot appetizer, roast chicken entree, creme brûlée dessert. The sauce in the melt-in-your-mouth escargot was delicious, the chicken was the most tender I have ever had, crusty French baguette. 2nd time here and it’s now my fav restaurant in Lancaster - quiet music, elegant decor, European ambiance, just like a French bistro.
An incredible meal and very hospitable service. Definitely a favorite Lancaster dining experience.
This was out first time at the restaurant. it far exceeded our expectations. The only drawback I can see is the spacing of tables. They were closer than I would prefer. It felt as if you were directly associated with the next parties conversations. outstanding main menu items and the deserts were a perfect portion size. our waiter was spot on with service and professionalism. He was a pleasure to talk to and gave us good menu advice.
Best onion soup and the flatbread is not to be missed. Beef stew and chicken dish were superb. Great cocktails (only complaint was bartender forgot my cherry for the Old Fashioned but gave me extra for the second cocktail). Go there you will not be disappointed! And the charcouteri board was excellent.
Two of our entrees and the wine was excellent. The mussels were on the bland side and the pommes frites not so crispy.
My meal was TINY for the price, but very good. Everything else was great!
We had a wonderful meal served family style. The macaroni and cheese appetizer was excellent. We shared a Caesar salad, a pasta dish with a crime butternut squash sauce and salmon. Dessert was delicious as well.
Prompt and very courteous service. The food was well prepared and presented. I had the escargot and mussels and both were seasoned to allow the flavor of each take precedence
The dessert selection is everything you want from a French bakery.
What a surprise find in Lancaster PA. Located in the back of a street front bakery, Once seated you realize that you have been transported to a different environment. Quite and refined. Excellent service and outstanding food. Don't forget to stay for coffee and a dessert. Be sure to choose your desert by walking back to the bakery and selecting from the many excellent pastry choices.
thank you for your kind words about your experience with us and we hope in seeing you soon again sincerely Cedric Barberet
The only negative was the closeness of the tables. It was distracting to hear other people's conversations and to feel they could hear ours.
Excellent and refined, Barberet remains consistently a delight.
After dinner we purchased a few enticing looking items at the bakery which turned out to be delicious -and the salvo of the evening!
I am sorry to say that the dinner was awfully disappointing, every dish lacking in flavor. Everything we had was incredibly bland. We really had no idea why it would be so in light of the seemingly delicious appearing menu. It was more tasty to read the menu. The broth of the mussels was without traditional flavors, steak had no salt or herb and the escargot were un-garlicky and un-buttered. For heaven's sake remove the imposter chef from the kitchen and put George's true hazelnut chartreuse butter on the snails.
Thank you for your remark, will take a note! First the steak is au poivre(fresh green peppercorn) not aux herbs, as far as the snails the imposter is myself and George himself since the recipe was set up by both of us and still is the same as what we used originally ... Sorry for your disappointment, Cedric Barberet!
We love this restaurant, and on this evening we were celebrating the engagement of our daughter and future son-in-law. The team at Barbaret made our evening even more special with their excellent food and service. The best-- thank you!
I grow fonder each time I dine. Love the food choices, the servers, And Hilari.
