Bistro Barberet & Bakery
The $4 extra bread basket charge is obnoxious. I don’t mind paying after a refill but $4 for the second basket?? No help for the waiters. All was fine till the place filled up. But no one to bus the tables. Everything done by the servers. So once we ate we sat with dirty dishes and no dessert for a while. No real options for children except a $10 plate of the days pasta with cheese and butter. My kids like to eat so 2 of them had the $30 pre fix. The third child had the pasta but there was no other choice for him. Not hard to offer a grilled cheese when you have brioche and cheese! How about the flat bread on the prefixe with slightly more understandable ingredients? Just a “no, we don’t have a kids option from the waiter. “
Food is always good. We enjoy the beautiful desserts and having such a nice place to go eat but improvements can be made. For $200+ service And options can be improved.
Fantastic Lunch! Everything was perfect! We will be back.
thank you again for dinning with us and hope in seeing you soon sincerely Cedric Barberet
Excellently accommodated our large party for my husband's birthday. The food was fantastic, drinks were tasty, and service was outstanding. 10/10, will return!
We introduced our friends to Bistro Barbaret during Restaurant Week. We all had delicious cocktails and incredible meals. Our server was gracious, but seemed to get tied up later in the meal and forgot to bring ketchup that we requested. An excellent dining experience overall!
Excellent food and service!
We were at Barbaret for Restaurant week and it was our first visit. The food was ok. Not great. I had a bowl full of mussels with about a half an inch of broth. The server mixed up our order with a neighboring table at least twice then gave us their check! The only shining star was the dessert which is not enough to send us back. Very disappointed.
Once again we had an excellent experience at Barberet. When we made the reservation we were not aware that this was a special time, Lancaster’s annual restaurant week. Therefore we had some new combinations and some specials, so it’ll worked out fine. This is our favorite pre-theater dinner, but it was the first visit by our friends.
As usual we requested that Christopher be our server, and he was, due to his excellent breadth and depth of the entrées served that evening. He always makes food recommendations that we would like, and by the same token strongly suggest we not order other items. I appreciate his candor.
Our dinners were great and we had four clean plates.
Their option of selecting desserts from their pastry shop is always an outstanding option.
I went with girlfriends for Restaurant Week. We were very disappointed. The salad was way overdressed! The schnitzel was good but the desserts were VERY disappointing. Two ordered pastries from the front and I had the creme brûlée. The pastries were bland and the creme brûlée was inedible. I showed the waiter that it was curdling and separating with water. He said it shouldn’t happen, apologized and brought another which did the exact same thing. Waiter said it was weird and walked away. He also cleared plates before everyone at the table finished - made everyone uncomfortable. He told us to go up front to look at the pastries and pick one out. The woman up front had already picked them away and was very annoyed. Bad experience based on what you pay.
Went first day of Restaurant week for lunch. We were one of 3 tables filled. Our waitress was amiable, pleasant and even went to bakery to reserve two loaves of fig bread. The food left much to be desired. We both ordered the ciabatta baguette with cheese and tomato and didn’t t like it. Saucuisson with pistachio was overly salty and swimming in broth. Cesesar salad first course excellent as well as crime caramel. I have eaten here before and enjoyed it but perhaps it was the restaurant week menu that left us wanting
My best friend and I had dinner there. The food was excellent and it was the cutest little place! We split a bottle of wine and escargot. I had the poulet au jus and she had the salad lyonnaise with chicken. Everything was amazing!
The food was very good and everyone at the table enjoyed their entree. Service great as always.
Had a great meal, experience, and special evening. Have dined here before with identical great experience.
Excellent and original, sophisticated yet affordable. Great wine matching.
Fantastic slice of France in Lancaster! Cedric & Estelle have outdone themselves. And Kayla is simply the best - Personable, knowledgable, and simply a great person. Lucky to have her here! Will be back next week! C
thank you for been with us ounce again we are grateful to have customer like yourself that make our job so rewarding .thank you again sincerely Cedric Barberet
Great food and service. Very pleased with quality of ingredients and presentation. Server was attentive but did not hover. Interesting but not overly busy space. Good ambiance.
thank you for dinning with us and we hope in seeing you soon sincerely Cedric Barberet
Quite good restaurant in Lancaster, PA.
I wish I lived nearby to be able to go on a regular basis.
My husband and I ate here for his birthday dinner. The food was absolutely delicious. We both had fish and it was done to perfection. Totally enjoyed this special “date” night.
Everything was perfect for my sister's birthday celebration! Gift bags (containing their yummy macaroons) were on the table when we arrived. We were there until closing time and the only disappointment was that someone had dumped the remaining coffee and we all could have used a refill for the luscious dessert! I gave 4 stars to the "value" because I think alcoholic drinks are always overpriced! Great evening!
We attend a writers’ conference in Lancaster each August, and we always make sure to come here for dinner during our visit. Food is excellent, service impeccable, and an atmosphere that is classy without being fussy.
We were celebrating our anniversary. The drinks were a bit pricey but wonderful. We had escargot French onion soup mussels and a lamb sausage entree. Everything was delicious.
What a great place. We went for a birthday celebration and were treated like royalty. The food was the best. Felt like we were in Paris. We will definitely go back soon.
we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and truly appreciated the champagne and macaroons that were gifted to us!
Ambience, menu selection, wine and service excellent
We were celebrating 🥳 my sister’s birthday! We all enjoyed the food and the ambience. Can’t wait to come back again.
Yes above is really a maybe. Always said one of my favorite places but (I am a foodie) this time a coupla things. Dessert: crème brulee wasn't very good, my friend got something chocolate from pastry shop for dessert and that seemed a little dry. My pork dish was very good but would have been better had the polenta been more traditional with this dish. Foie gras was just ok. My friend liked his fish dish. Drinks were very good. Good bartender. Hadn't been to Barberet for a few months so maybe something changed?
I had read great reviews and new paper articles about this restaurant and was excited to try it for a special occasion. My 70th birthday seemed the perfect time to do this.
We were warmly greeted and since they knew it was my birthday, a small gift bags with pastries form their bakery was soon delivered to our table. This was a wonderful gesture!
After this things became disappointing! My husband ordered French Onion Soup. Being a French restaurant we anticipated a flavorful soup. At best it was mediocre! On tip of that it was quite expensive @ $12.50 for a small bowl!
On special was a seafood boulibaise which captured my taste buds! However, what a disappointment! My anticipation of delicate spices was not to be realized. Mostly I tasted a salty tomato broth. My husband's duck was also nondescript. After these disappointments we declined dessert and decided to enjoy ice cream elsewhere.
Needless to say, we were disappointed that the reviews did not match ours!
Hello Mrs Kooker I am sorry to hear that you had such a terrible experience with us last Tuesday specially after such high expectation you had from us, we can assure you that we are surprise that our almost 16oz onion soup and bouillabaisse were not to your satisfaction when all our recipe, specially those "customers favorite items" that are scales to the teeth and always the same consistency surprised us! Our sincere apology for disliking our food! sincerely Cedric Barberet
Our best meal yet at Barberet. The salads, particularly the Caesar, were as good as you can get. Service was good. Our waiter was attentive but did not hover. We wish we had arrived early so as we usually do. It's good to take advantage of the great bar and the happy hour specials - but we will be back. The dessert options at the bakery counter are to die for. Thanks for a really nice evening with our daughter and granddaughter.
thank you for choosing us and enjoying your meal we hope in seeing you soon again sincerely Cedric Barberet
Patron since they opened.
We chose Barbaret for an anniversary dinner, and it was perfect. Our meal was delicious, our server was attentive, and the ambiance was lovely. We chose to order a la carte, but they had a $30 Prix Fixe menu that looked great - I think we'll be back!!
My wife and I had high expectations for Bistro Barberet. It didn't impress. We had to return a limp flatbread appetizer and the waitress at first tried to tell us that's the way it's supposed to be. She was not very attentive. My frites were not hot that came with my mussels. We will not be returning. There are too many other great restaurants in Lancaster to spend our time and money.
Hello I am sorry to hear that you have a very bad dinning experience with us, this situation does not reflect who we are as a French Bistro and hope that maybe in the future you will consider us again sincerely,Cedric barberet
We have had many meals at Barberet.
Friday night my meal was very tasty but could have hotter.
There were six of us.
This wii not prevent me from returning.
It was first Friday and extremely busy. I understand how this could happen.
sorry for the little issues and we do understand your concern and will fix those so this does not happen in even busy time hope in seeing you soon again sincerely cedric barberet
Service was great our server Chris was friendly, super helpful, and knowledgable.
Great food and great service
thank you for dinning with us we hope in seeing you soon again sincerely Cedric Barberet
My husband and I enjoyed a lovely meal. He had the shrimp and scallops special and I had the mussels - - both were excellent.
thank you for dinning with us we hope in seeing you soon again sincerely Cedric Barberet
Consistently good experience with food and service!
thank you for coming again always a pleasure to have you looking forward in seeing you soon sincerely cedric barberet
For the first time, I’m unable to rave about our experience. Saturday night and a modest crowd at 7:45. Restaurant emptied in an hour and we were still waiting for entrees. Veal quality was very good, but overall it seemed like the dish had been sitting for awhile as the sauce was modestly warm as was the veal. Salmon portion was much smaller than expected, but good. Chicken was good according to our friend. Pea soup was good and was served cold as expected. A glass of Pinot took 15 mins to arrive. All in all, not the best showing after so many excellent meals. We’ll give Bistro a summer break and come back in the fall.
Great food, smallish space that could benefit from a table being removed along the main wall to make it less cramped
Food was terrific, but the wait was horrific. Restaurant was not extremely busy, so we do not know why it took an hour to get our appetizer.
Nice selection of unique and tasty food choices. Very efficient and friendly staff.
Great place for lunch with a group of six. The food was very good and the service was great too.
