Great for late-night dining in Downtown Jacksonville - after concert or theater.
We had a fabulous meal from appetizer to dessert. Our server Michael and the staff made the whole dining experience very special.
Bistro Aix has done a fine job renovating.
We enjoyed everything!
Excellent service. French onion soup was bizarre with thick base, did not care for. Fish in sandwich was spoiled. Won’t be back.
Restaurant has à French name ´Aix’ which is a great city but does not stand up to the image of the city.
No real daily menu, it’s more a repeat menu.
Menus were old with water stains on them.
Service was ok
Food was ok, not great and not bad.
In Jacksonville this could be considered a good restaurant, in my town it would not
This was our second trip to Bistro Aix since they reopened. Once again, the service and the meal were exceptional. Our waiter asked us up front if we had theater tickets which we did. He let us know that he would pace dinner to give us time to reach the theater. Perfect--we got to our seats 10 minutes before show time. There were four of us and each of us was delighted with our choices. If you are a beets fan, do not miss the beet salad. The short ribs, salmon, and ahi were just right. The wine list is broad enough to cover any meal. My wife drinks quite a bit of water. It was commical, but we counted 9 different people who refilled her water glass,
Very friendly service. Drink service was surprisingly slow. Great food.
Four different palates; four different entrees; four fabulous meals! The restored restaurant was beautiful, the suggested wine pairings were well thought-out and enjoyable, and the table service was efficient and engaging (if it seemed like we saw quite a few different people). House wines and craft cocktails were very nice and the desserts sampled with espresso finished a memorable dining experience. If there were any question marks it was the booth we had rocked when the next party moved and facing the street and watching the traffic was distracting and not in keeping with the rest of the ambiance. Unfortunately, no shades or curtains were available. Can't wait to go back when we can sit at the counter and watch the kitchen staff hard at work!
Family in town
My wife took me for my birthday since they had recently reopened after hurricane Irma forced them to close for nearly six months. Food was very good as was the service, and they were quite accommodating to my wife who have sensitivities to gluten and olive oil. Glad to see them back!
The duck dish was delicious and cooked perfectly. Our waiter was Will and he was very knowledgeable and attentive.
We celebrated my husband's birthday with a large family gathering. Despite a table for 17, the food and service were outstanding!
Great food. Perfect for special occasions.
The newly reopened Bistro Aix looks much the same after last year's hurricane. My friend and I a cup of the French Onion Soup which was very good. We also had the Tuna Crunchy Roll which was just OK. The "crunchy" part was actually a thin slide of cucumber wrapped around a tuna tartar.
Used to be my favorite lunch place, they are not quite up to speed after the hurricane closure. But we’ll give them a chance.
We had to ask to order after being seated 20 minutes later, we had to ask for bread after we ordered, we had to ask for waters and teas to be refilled, food all came out at once and there was rotted lettuce that I had to pull out of my salad. I travel to Jacksonville for business, eaten here several times and always had good experience before, but not this week. Guess I will look for another place to frequent when I visit Jacksonville.
Nice to have Bistro Aix open again!
My adult son and I went before a theater show. We had the escargot appetizer which was super yummy ... they were plump and meaty, not watered down, and they were seasoned well. I also had the candy cane beet salad before my meal, which was good, but the giant medallion of fried goat cheese on the top was unexpected and a bit much. The scallops I had were perfectly seared, and the grits they came with were the creamiest I've ever had, almost like creamed potatoes but more rich. My son had the duck breast, and he said it was absolutely delicious. We will most definitely be back for more.
We wanted to support the reopening of Bistro Aix post Hurricane Irma. It did not disappoint. Great lively atmosphere with delicious food. We had a fun time!
Noisy but nice! Be careful about where you sit here, unless you don't mind a lot of noise. While attractively designed, there is not much to absorb the sounds of larger groups (or smaller ones that missed the class on conversational dining volume...). Fortunately, we were able to be seated away from the noisiest so we could enjoy our meal and conversation. I couldn't discern much difference between the former menu and now, with Aix having been closed for renovations from the hurricane. We were there for lunch, and the offerings seem to have something for everyone, and our table enjoyed the quiche of the day, the creamy onion soup and a couple of the salad options with protein selection. The wild salmon is especially delicious, and I was able to get sautéed calamari for my salad instead of the fried option - yum. Desserts are worth the splurge. We shared the Chai Creme Brulée and the Chocolate Profiteroles. There wasn't a crumb left! Also, the coffee here is some of the best that area restaurants serve. Our server was very attentive - thanks to all!
We had a great meal and a very attentive and personable waiter. If I am back in Jacksonville I would come here again.
Great food, great atmosphere, and great service!
They recently re-opened after the damage due to flooding in the area. We looked forward to their return and was pleased to be back dinning with them. Their menu remains the same. However, they did nothing to deal with the excessive noise level that permeates the restaurant during weekends and many evenings. It's a mystery why they failed to deal with this issue while the restaurant was closed for renovations. The noise level evenings distracts from the enjoyment of dinning with BistroX.
Really disappointing experience. We went on Feb. 18th and had reservations for 5:30. Upon seating, we were asked if we were going to the show. I'm not a big Barry Manilow fan so I didn't even know there was a concert but apparently when I answered "no" it made our meal a non priority. Anyone who was attending the show received priority service and their meal orders were rushed causing ours to be delayed.
We received our crunchy tuna roll appetizer but gave up on our dinner after waiting over an hour.
Maybe the staff was running slow due to the recent reopening but they could have at least attempted to explain the wait. BTW. Our order was a med rare burger and seared scallops so it's not like it was a lengthy preparation.
It wasn't a special occasion but when we chose to dine out, we expect to be fed. And if it's going to be delayed, please be considerate enough to explain why or offer us an extra beer while we wait. Unfortunately it felt like our server just avoided us.
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful dinner. I had the duck breast, absolutely delicious and it was cooked to the perfect temp. My girlfriend had the steel head trout which, was also very good. We tried the beef tartar for an app and half a dozen moon dancer oysters. Both were fantastic. Also our waiter Dean was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave excellent service throughout our evening.
Fabulous as before! So glad you have re-opened. Great food & service!
Excellent service and food!
Glad to have them back. Good job all around!
Food was delicious!!!!! The short rib grill cheese and quiche were both amazing! Can’t wait to go back!
Was excited to try since the reopen and it was disappointing. No real new menu items and the food was just lackluster. The baked Brie was good but why put jam on top and make it soggy? The short rib my hubby had tasted like I could have made it in the crockpot and the carrots were underdone. The lighting is odd and is very bright for a romantic place on Valentine’s Day. Loved it throughout the years but it’s been on a downward spiral since all the changes. Won’t be back. :(
Great dinner !! Amazing service !!!!
Banana crepes were delicious!!!
So happy to see they've re-opened after hurricane Irma, just as good as ever. Their new Sister restaurant Cowford Chophouse could learn from them about friendly service and accommodating customers while maintaining an upscale culinary experience. I wanted to impress my client who is looking to bring 700 police chaplains to town and the restaurant was exactly what he and I were looking for.
Food, service, and experience were amazing. Will definitely visit again.
I must admit that I've always been a HUGE fan of Bistro Aix, and counted it as one of my favorite Jacksonville restaurants. Unfortunately, I'm extremely disappointed by my visit after its re-launch last week. The warm, dark, glam ambiance is gone in favor of more senior-friendly cold overhead fluorescent bulb lighting. The blonde chairs and blonde floor wash out the room, and it's louder than ever. The food was well cooked (the menu has barely changed by the way), but the presentation was uninspired and dessert was a chocolate glob. The wine list is not nearly as well structured as it was -- and they're already running out of several bottles. I really hope these early missteps are all related to the re-launch (and not indicative of the "new" Bistro Aix), and will be corrected soon. I so hoped this would be a chance for Bistro Aix to reinvent itself, and it has - only for the worse. I'll be watching to see if they improve. But, I'm in no hurry to return -- and I never thought I would type that about Bistro Aix.
Table was ready 40 minutes after the reservation time. Ordered the fillet medium and it came out rare. Sent it back, came out medium rare. No attempt to remedy other than asking if we wanted the same steak thrown on the grill for a third time.
Glad that they are open again. The a/c was to cold
It's an amazing place to revisit. We have been patronizing this place for years and its so good to come 'back home'
Food and service top notch as always. So of course we'll be back.
