Been going for years but it’s crazy noisy and the wait staff was rushed and impatient. Not well trained. Acted like it was a fast food restaurant
I’ll start with the good things... the atmosphere was great, as was the live music. However, the appetizers were mediocre, and our waiter seemed like he was on some type of amphetamine.
The blue cheese chips are always outstanding. I was happy with the filet and augratin potatoes but they did need more salt. The server had the bartender make a special drink for me on my birthday. I wanted something sweet, fruity and not too strong. They hit it out of the park.
We ordered a cocktail, appetizer, soup/salad, bottle of wine, and entree. Our courses were not timed out well. I may be spoiled and picky but each course should be spaced out well as to not make guests feel rushed. When I order that many courses I need a break and time to just enjoy my date night.
Food was great. Scallops delicious. Loved the cheese board as well.
Three of us went to BA to have a serious talk. Our server was perfect! She was sensitive to our intense conversation, but quietly and cheerfully went about her duties to ensure we got what we needed. I had the mussels, two of which tasted a little “off”, but the salads and other dishes were excellent! Most important, the ambiance was cozy and quiet, just as we had hoped. Welcome back, Bostro Aix!
We have eaten at Bistro Aix several times. In fact it is one of our favorite Jacksonville restaurants because each menu item is prepared & presented at a level one would expect of a more expensive restaurant. Tonight we shared the smoked salmon appetizer, an always delicious dish. My husband had the smoked tomato soup while I ordered the chopped Caesar salad. Both were perfect. He had the tuna loin ( just seared) &, for the first time, I ordered a pizza, which was far more than I could eat (home in a box it went). For dessert we shared a petit four & a macaron, which was just enough to complete the meal (both were delicious). The service was excellent as usual.
The only “complaint” we have is that dessert prices have been raised to a level ($12 or $13) not found in other comparable restaurants. So it will be a single petit four or macaron whose pricing is far more reasonable.
First time at this charming downtown JAX restaurant. Great service, great food, easy parking.
Great food!!! The staff was very accommodating, happy and helpful.
Bistro Aix never fails to excel! Because it’s one of my favorites, I took my cousin and his wife there for dinner while they were visiting from Tampa. Everything was delicious - from the oysters and French onion soup, the spareribs and scallops, to the espresso. The only thing better than the food at Bistro Aix is the service.
Great dinner! Oysters were very fresh. Steak and snapper did not disappoint.
I love Bistro Aix and have never had a bad meal there. For my birthday this past weekend, I couldn't think of anywhere else I would have gone to celebrate my birthday. I specified "birthday" on the reservation. When we arrived we immediately went to the bar. My parents mentioned that it was my birthday and the bar tender wished me a happy birthday. When we arrived at our table, nothing was mentioned of my birthday. In other restaurants I've had a champagne toast or a dessert with "happy birthday" written on it. There was none of this. I was a little disappointed. Because of this, I would not recommend Bistro Aix for an occasion that has any form of celebration behind it - they are lacking in that department. The food was and always in incredible!
Excellence all around.
I refer many people to Bistro Aix. Every time we are in Jacksonville we try to dine here.
Service is always good; the waitress was a Little too chatty.
Entree portions seemed small, even when ordering an appetizer for starter. Quality of the food was very good. Music in the Lounge bar area was way too loud. Impossible to have a conversation. Restaurant was more than half empty even though it was a Friday evening. Felt like we were dining alone. Bartender was not knowledgeable of the wine list, not helpful.
The appetizers were wonderful .
The salads fresh.
The main lunch sandwich was good, but too much bread.
I especially like theCreme Brulee. The best anywhere!
Our waiter was so congenial. We felt like he was our personal friend.
Can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Have been on several occasions and each time the food was exceptional and the wait staff was superb. EXELLENT in every aspect.
Bistro Aix makes a fantastique dining experience. Food was well-prepared with outstanding flavor combinations. Service was top shelf.
We were there for my mother's birthday, and everything was wonderful. Thank you, Will, for taking such great care of us! Faith, the bartender, was kind enough to make a special mocktail for my mom, since she doesn't drink, and she loved it. Great experience overall.
Dinner was excellent. Filet cooked perfectly, scallops wonderfully seared and delicious. The crustinies with escargot were disappointing, puff pastry would me much better and more appropriate. Short pours on wine by the glass. Server was knowledgeable and attentive, but a little too casual in behavior. Dessert (creme brulee) was excellent.
Came late, around 10:30. Waiter acted as if we were his first table of the night, entertaining, prompt, and absolutely on point. Food was the usual, wonderful, and we had a great night
Awesome from A to BistroX ...
Our server was the most memorable part of the meal. The environment was great and the food was tasty.
Nice but it sure was empty for a Friday Lunch time. Food was really good though.
This is a very nice restaurant we like to go to occasionally for the steak frites with peppercorn sauce. The chef nails the dish with the right amount of pepper! Service people are gracious and not annoying which make the time spent at the table pleasant. Plus we could hear ourselves speak to each other at the table and not have to yell, a real plus!
I guess this is why we keep returning.
We are long time customers of the Bistro, which I note so you will appreciate our disappointment of the meal we had last Saturday. Our appetizer Calimari, was undercooked with portions almost raw. (They deducted the item from the bill). My dish, the fish special, lacked flavor as did the accompanying sides dishes. The dessert offering were a disappointment. For some unexplained reason they arebuying their bread from a bakery not near as good as the one they used in the past — clearly the wrong decision.
Disappointingly, it will be a while before we return.
Birthday lunch with my family. I ordered shrimp po boy with Cajun fries. They tasted good. We also ordered the crab cakes and vegetable quiche. Everything was enjoyable. The creme brule' dessert was good, the chocolate dessert tasty. The petit fours were not really petit fours, they were red velvet cupcakes stuffed with chocolate mousse sprinkled with some icing. Not so great. All and all we had a good time.
I was very disappointed with my 2nd visit to Bistro Aix. The food and service were poor.
I ordered a wild mushroom pizza with truffle oil per the menu description, and I was brought a flatbread style pie with regular white mushrooms, not a lot of them, a tasteless cheese and no truffle oil. The waitress seemed to have no idea of the difference between wild mushrooms and regular white mushrooms. She didn't seem to care and said "sometimes we change the ingredients from the menu."
I sent it back and got a regular margherita pizza that was supposed to have fresh mozzarella on it, and again I got a large round flatbread with tasteless dough, tomato and cheese. Frozen pizza from Trader Joe's tastes better than that.
My husband had a fish dish that was dry and not very flavorful.
The "Manager" (a young woman who didn't seem to understand much about food either) came to our table and said she would comp my pizza.
It took forever to get our check when we were done with our meal. I had to get up and chase the hostess to get our waitress. And of course the pizza was still on the check, which was fine, since I did eat some of the 2nd pie any way.
Finally, the restaurant is right next door to a bar/club, and the music was very loud, and getting louder and louder as the evening went on--the connecting door between both was open.
I definitely do not recommend this place. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't last very long.
Upon arriving, we were all quite pleased with the inviting atmosphere and energy level. Drinks were served on time and perfectly crafted! Menu prices were fair and reasonable, better than expected, but the food preparation was not what it could have or should have been for our area. Overall it was a very pleasurable dining experience, and we shall return! Thank you for a lovely dining venue and experience!
The food service was Very quick, but the drink service was Extremly slow. Had to wait several minutes with the food on the table for the drinks to show up.... with Every Course.
We were disappointed that the menu recently changed and was not updated online. We made the decision to eat there because it had 3 of our favorite dishes and favorite wine by the glass....not a single thing was available. The wine was only available by the bottle. The food we ordered was good though, just nothing we were excited about.
We had high hopes for mother's day brunch as I'd been told by a friend she loves this place, so take this with a grain of salt as her experiences have clearly been different. We all got lobster omelettes with a brioche French toast to share. Disappointing all the way around. The lobster omelette had potential with big chunks of lobster, but it was so dry and had absolutely no sauce. The French toast was flimsy and sad looking, NOT beautiful big slices of brioche. I could have easily whipped up a prettier and tastier version in my own kitchen for a grand total of 50 cents. We left shaking our heads and we are foodies who are pretty easy to please.
The bench chairs in the Onyx Bar are very uncomfortable and are so low to the ground.
Great place! Food was hot, fresh and delicious. Servers were spot on! Definitely recommend this place to eat!
4 adults and 1 7 year old went for Mother’s Day. First issue there was no child menu, on Mother’s Day.
The menu was very limited which I was not informed when the reservation was made. A credit card was required to make the reservation with a 48 hour cancellation or be charged $20/person. 24 hours before arrival I was finally made aware of the limited menu, too late to cancel.
2 of us had French toast which was severely burnt on the bottom, tasted more like charcoal. The so called maple syrup they served had no flavor
The other 2 had salads which they both said were just ok.
Service was marginal, with long waits between seeing our server.
We have eaten at this restaurant several non holiday times and had good experiences. Not the case today.
Would not recommend this place any time a limited menu is in place.
Limited menu for Mother’s Day brunch; I wanted Aix’s regular menu but they did a great job on the limited menu. Made a perfect Mother’s Day brunch with a nice complimentary champagne cocktail. Lovely place, has its own parking, great service, great food.
We were first seated at the bar facing kitchen. Had to ask to be moved. Had reservations and it wasn't full.
Otherwise great experience.
We are frequent customers at Bistro X and they service for Mothers Day was sub par at best.
We were there for 1hr and 40 minutes and never saw our main course order. Our waiter told us the delay was due to a private party which is no excuse. Even when we asked about the delay and he said he would check he never returned with an answer. We were patient until I noticed that a party of 5, similar to ours, were seated well after us but had just received their main course. At that point we left. Can't say how good or bad the food was because we never got that far. Last time we ever venture to that restaurant. Too bad those gift cards will go to waste.
