The food is so good and cooked to perfection! The only thing that lacked were the drinks. I’m hoping that the bartender was new but the drinks were not up to standards. Everyone enjoyed all they ate and we had a great time.
The restaurant was quickly filling up when we arrived for dinner early on a Saturday evening. We started with well-made cocktails at the onyx-topped bar and later moved into the dining room. Our server was friendly and attentive and the room itself was attractive and spacious. Regrettably, the food did not live up to our expectations. We started with an appetizer of deviled eggs - a trio of eggs, one garnished with smoked salmon, another with bacon and a third with fish roe. The dish was bland and its too cold temperature further detracted from its appeal. I had a small spinach salad which was crisp and tasty. For entrees, my wife chose the filet mignon and I had the steak frites. My steak was well seasoned and done perfectly to temperature. It came pre-sliced and was delicious. The frites however, were a disappointment - rather than the thin crispy shoestring fries that one expects with this dish and are typically served in most French bistros, the potatoes here were the generic, bland, American-style variety that tasted like they came out of a package. My wife's filet, which was ordered "medium", was served rare to medium rare instead. It was less well seasoned and neither as tender nor as tasty as the less expensive steak frites. Overall, this was a just OK experience. We'd give Bistro Aix another chance, but for now, we'd be hard put to recommend it to someone else.
Everything was wonderful.
One of my favorite restaurants in San Marco. Consistently good choices on menu, good food and service.
Night out with my daughter. The staff was very attentive. Never an empty glass and willing to answer any questions. We started with a Caesar salad and Candy Beet salad Filet Mignon and Shrimp Tagliatelle were delicious! The food was cooked to perfection =)
It’s never a disappointment. I love the ambience. Service was excellent. Started with a delicious specialty martini and a caviar plate that was worth the money. Had a salmon on risotto that was wonderful and a great glass of wine. We were headed to a concert and wanted to spend a certain amount of time so the waiter was perfect with the timing of the food. It’s my always Go-To when in Jax particularly before a concert.
The Bistro Aix continues to be one of our favorite restaurants. Chic urban contemporary decor lends a nice ambiance to attentive service and outstanding food. While most of the entrees run between $25-$35 but you can mosh on a good selection of appetizers, salads and soups for much less, which is what we did our last visit as we weren't looking for a full on dinner, but something lighter before making a show. We had steamed mussels and Ahi Tuna appetizers along with a Caesar salad with shrimp, all of which we shared. Plenty enough for the two of us and the clam sauce was so good, my wife to the leftovers home to use in a clam sauce the the next day.
The service was perfectly attentive and efficient. All-in-all, a very good restaurant experience. PS, they make a great martini.
Moderately priced but the food is way above average. The martini bar is gorgeous. A perfect place for a special occasion, date night, before a play or concert at a downtown venue, or just to have a wonderful meal and cocktails.
Food was good. Shrimp tagliatelle is always too saucy. So we asked for reduced sauce. That was ignored and the waiter told us ,”it’s a saucy dish”. He also told my wife “you seem like a saucy lady”. What the heck is he saying. Not funny. We ordered the way we did to get less sauce. That dish has switched over the years from a pink sauce to more of a red sauce. Not in a good way. They ruined the steak frites when they switched sauces. Maybe these are reasons the restaurant was so empty. They should go back to the menu of ten years ago. It’s always way too noisy and rather than give off a hip vibe, it just makes you yell to your friends to get heard. Get some noise dampeners.
My husband and I both had the steak. Mine was delicious his fatty with gristle.
My wife and I visited on a trip to Jacksonville and couldn’t be more pleased we came across Bistro Aix. The food was fantastic. The staff was both professional and knowledgeable. The restaurant was a little loud but wasn’t unbearable. The food is a little pricey but well worth the money. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and we hope to get back soon.
It was my birthday, and I requested Bistro Aix because I loved it so much the last time I had been there.
Food and service was amazing! Only thing that was off putting was that the hostess gave away our reservation but then tried to cover it up and seat us at the bar instead of a table. We got it sorted out and enjoyed a wonderful meal.
Good as usual
It was just okay. We heard wonderful things about it but we thought the food and service were just okay. Our waiter didn’t even tell us about happy hour even though he knew it was our first time. He seemed very uninterested in us or the questions we had.
Loud, but a fun environment... too many different "waiters". Nick was our main guy and awesome!
From there, his supporting crew was many... like we were a part of an assembly line. No personal touch. Not that Nick needed to do everything... many people filling water glasses, serving food, asking questions. If that's your vibe, ok. Food was prepared as ordered and very good.
Fantastic dinner while my parents were in town. The food was excellent, and Dean made our time together memorable. Lucas visited our table once we sat and made us feel welcome. Great choice making him the new GM.
Oysters-great. Tuna Nicoise-great. Duck Cassoulet- Duck-amazing.... cassoulet dry and a bit bland. Mashed potatoes- needed more dairy but ok. Service was outstanding.
We waited for over 45 min for our bottle of wine. The waiter never apologized just said they were low on glasses? What the heck? Go wash some!
Food took another hour.
Will not come back
We went prior to a concert and were on a time schedule. They were running behind despite our reservation, but accommodated us outside during a beautiful evening with not only timely and exceptional service but also exceptional fare. They ensured our ability to order, to eat and to leave were all accomplished within our time frame and it was a wonderful meal. I will definitely return...many times!
This was our first time at Bistro Aix so I would recommend it based on the quality of the food and wine, but we had horrible service. We were seated promptly for our 6:15 reservation and the place was already swamped. As we had Symphony tickets for 8:00, we wanted to be out of the restaurant by 7:40ish. Maybe our server was given too many tables, but we hardly ever saw him in the room, let alone at our table. With the help of other staff we did make our concert on time. We will try it again, but probably not on a Friday night. The noise level was so high that we couldn't hear each other across the table. It's a pretty restaurant, so it's a shame they haven't done something to help with acoustics.
My favorite place to eat in Jacksonville. Outstanding Steak Frites. Will be back for sure. Our waiter was horrible. No refills on drinks, we had to ask for specials, and seriously didn’t check on us but maybe twice. Manager was most gracious.
Warm and unpretentious, this neighborhood gem really delivers the goods. French cuisine expertly prepared, with attentive service and a solid wine list. My wife raved about her coq au vin. My steak au poivre, with frites and haricot vert, was so tender I could cut it with a fork. You can eat in the dining room or in a large, adjoining room with a long, marble bar. Dependable and fairly priced.
I dined with a friend and to hear Damien Lamar perform. The sofa was a little low for the table so dining there was a bit awkward. The food was initially served at the wrong temperature but that was corrected. The energy was nice but the room was quite loud and needs some sound absorbers.
The food and service were outstanding - the best experience we have had there in several years. However, we were seated in the bar/lounge area which we didn’t appreciate. I suggest that the restaurant should ask when reservations are booked a preference for the restaurant area or the noisy lounge area. We have been to the restaurant many times and never seated in that area. We won’t make that mistake again.
As always, service was great, food was great as was Billy and his service team. Hope to go back soon as we enjoy evenings on the patio!
We sat in the back room by the bar and had a phenomenal waiter. Food was great.
Seems like the portions have gotten smaller. But food is high quality.
My server was not particularly friendly but was competent. The rest was wonderful.
Loved the escargot and wine!! Shrimp tagliatelle was fabulous!! We loved the oysters and macaroons too!
Still good after all these years! I felt a couple of items were overpriced such as the 3 1/2 deviled eggs you get for $8 but other than, everything else was fine.
First time in-Excellent food, excellent service. Love the decor and atmosphere. Will be back
Food was flavorless and completely underwhelming. The Green salad we had ordered was AMAZING so we were teased with a delicious start but the entrees were horrid. I ordered a petite filet and could have had a better cut of meat at Applebee’s.
First time diner and will definitely be back. The place is absolutely lovely and the service was impeccable. We waited a little longer than usual for someone to greet us at the ‘chefs bar’ and because of this our first 2 rounds were comped. It was a non issue and we didn’t complain but it was still given to us. That is what I call service! The diver scallop entree and the steak frites were amazing. Keep doing what your doing..because it’s working.
Great date night!!
This is the kind of place I would expect to find in a small Paris neighborhood, but Jacksonville? The menu is varied and interesting, with a sumptuous wine list. We had the hanger steak au Poivre, which was excellent. Service was friendly and attentive. For the quality, the price is very fair. The bar, in an adjoining room, is exceptionally atmospheric.
Next time we plan to eat in there.
Nice environment for a Friday night. The food was good!
Last night, my husband and I dined at Bistro Aix because the Be Easy Band members were playing. We loved the ambiance and music. Our food was delicious, the salmon and filet mignon was cooked to perfection and the calamari was some of the best I've tasted. The only damper on our evening was the waiter, Brandon. We are disappointed in the service received. I have dined at this restaurant on a corporate level and know that the service we received was subpar. My husband and I felt completely ignored by this waiter. On several occasions he walked past our table without as much of a how did your food taste or is there something I can provide. We had to ask other waiters for items such as bread and water. Twice Brandon walked past our empty adult beverages without offering another. He did not ask how our entree was nor checked on us throughout the evening. After he had brought us our dessert, I caught his eye and shook my head no at the dessert. He came and picked it up and never asked what was wrong or if there was something else he could provide, he just took the plate and brought us our check. Without so much of a "thank you for dinning with us" or "have a good night". Other than his lack of service, we had a great night the band was amazing.
Only negative was the EXTREMELY loud noise level. People who have to wear hearing aids cannot understand the waiters, much less the people at their own table. However food was excellent and the waiter was good.
