The food for restaurant week was horrible this week. The chicken carbonara should never be called a carbonara, the pasta was overcooked, the sauce was bland, felt as if I was eating pasta with "creamed chicken broth". The kale salad.... had NO kale but instead an oily spring mix. The cheesecake wasn't even unthawed, completely frozen throughout. A total disappointment. This was one of my Husband's and I favorite restaurant two years ago.

This restaurant is clean with a nice bar area with televisions. The food and staff are excellent. They have a good variety of dishes on the menu. They have live music. They are on our short list of mainstay restaurants. Looking forward to our next meal at Bistro 72. Well Done!

I had put in the OT reservation about 3 hrs before we had arrived & had requested the table by the fireplace.When we got there,we could see that 4 diners were already sitting there. It was obvious that had only been seated about 15 mins before we arrived.There were no other diners present.So,it seemed that making the reservation didn't mean anything to the staff.Naturally,the hostess sat us next to that table;place was empty but they had to crowd us together.We waited about 10 mins for the waitress to stop by our table.She was a different waitress then the one that was taking care of the table next to us.She took our drink & dinner orders.When she came back with the drinks,mine was wrong.After delivering the drinks,she seemed to hide in the back.She never came out to check on us.A single diner came in & was seated about 4 tables away;surprised he wasn't on top of us.Yet a different waitress was taking care of him.We had to ask the hostess to find our waitress so that we could get drinks refilled.When our waitress came out from the back,she went to the lone diners table to take his order,something that another waitress had already done.Another member of the staff brought my dinner.He didn't know anything about my wife's dinner.Again we had to flag down the hostess.Our waitress finally came out from the back & you could tell from the expression her face that she had forgot to place my wife's order.She went back inside & then came out a few mins later.She said that the chef didn't like the way that the sauce had come out & was making a new batch.Well,20 mins later my wife's dinner was served;it doesn't take 20 mins to mix a sauce.I had long since finished mine.Another couple that was just seated next to us right before my wife's dinner was brought out said that the server has gone downhill over the last year.We agreed, we had noticed it before.They gave my wife a free glass of wine & desert to try to make up for the late dinner.Despite asking,we never found a manager.

Bistro 72: when its good, it's very good - and this was one of those very good occasions. The food here is never in question, but haphazard service has often undermined the experience. On this lunch visit, the restaurant was quiet and the service attentive and professional. The result: good food, served promptly and piping hot.

A complete disappointment. It took about ten minutes to hunt down the hostess to seat us. Dining area was just a few tables in the bar area. No table linens at a restaurant with these prices! A score of power line workers at the bar detracted from the dining experience. Only one waitress to serve all of the tables. At least the food was good. This is on my list of "never agains."

Food was ok. My dinner was over cooked and the ambiance kind of felt like I was at a chain hotel. The server was good and attentive. We have eaten here before and hoped it improved since we see the parking lot always full. It was a mirage, the restaurant was basically empty.

Very disappointed. We usually love everything about bistro 72. However, this experience was not a good one and quite embarrassing since we brought friends. Waitress was extremely rude as she had no patience. She also insisted that the meal was done properly when in fact the food was not prepared as requested. Perhaps there was a different chef sine it was the night of the nor’easter. Duck was over cooked, scallops were hard and risotto was like wallpaper paste.
The only good thing about the night was the guitarist and his wonderful choice of music and the company of our friends

Ambiance and food were terrific!
Service was mediocre at best. Server did not know all items on menu. She did not check back for additional drinks and had to be reminded to bring coffee.

Took advantage of Restaurant Week to find this local gem. I was impressed with the use of local ingredients and the wide variety of local wines. The salad was beyond delicious and they provided a nice portion (not just 3 leaves of lettuce and a tomato slice like other places). My husband and I enjoyed the Lamb entrée. It was plate-licking good! Our meal ended with cheesecake which was beautifully presented and very tasty. My favorite wines were not on their extensive list and they had a limited number of Rose wines so I opted for a blood orange Margarita, I HIGHLY recommend this drink. Hubby enjoyed a local IPA beer which he enjoyed. Despite the limited number of Rose wines, the only other aspect of our visit that was not very favorable was that the service was slightly disorganized, which can be contributed to the fact that they very busy since it was Restaurant Week.
This makes a great stop after a day of shopping in Riverhead or at Tanger. I look forward to going back on a summer evening to enjoy their outdoor dining option. Bistro 72 is a MUST TRY spot for local East-enders.

The service needs to be addressed. The food is good though.
We waited 1/2 hour to get our food order taken. I think they work shorthanded. The servers are nice though. I would give it another try.
They don't have a dress code. Some customers very sloppy looking.

REstaurant Week start - it was fantastic! We were seated at a nice table, food was perfectly done. The Bistro 72 salad and the salmon were my choices -- I was so happy the fish was seasoned just right, and not overdone at all. I like too that the menu tells you where they get the food from and a lot of it is local. Definitely happy to finally make it, we will be back!

My husband & I went out for date night. The food was really good. The three piece band was a little loud but good. The waitress was a sweetheart. The food was a little pricey but worth it. We will be going back.

My friend and I went for dinner to celebrate our birthdays. We had a drink at the bar which was great - service, crowd, music. We moved to the dining room for dinner where the service was also excellent. The appetizers were delicious, but the main meals (salmon and scallops) were grossly over cooked. I would go back to the bar again but would not return for a main dish.

We have been at Bistro 72 many times in the past and always found it delightful. Unfortunately, We went to dinner New Year's Eve and cannot say our impression remains positive. Whatever the reason(s), new manager or chef, etc., we were very disappointed. Restaurant freezing cold, menus ripped and needed to be replaced, soup was cold, salads were overdressed, if not for the bottle of wine, bread and the music ... the evening would have been a total bust.

We came here on Christmas day and was greeted by a somewhat cranky hostess. We were seated right away and the waitress came up to us immediately. She was very friendly and helpful. We ordered our food. They had a Christmas menu, but also offered a limited everyday menu if you did not like what was on the holiday one. It took a while to come, but the restaurant was very crowded that night and there were only two servers(which is completely the restaurant's fault) During the holidays, there should always be more employees on staff. The food was decent, not any better than any local restaurant in the area. The prices were high for the quality of food served, but that is not unusual for a hotel restaurant on Long Island.

This is our 3rd year coming for Christmas Eve dinner, we are never disappointed. Nice atmosphere, good service, good food and someone play light music adds to the experience. It's a bit of a hidden gem.

This was our second visit in a few weeks for dinner and it confirmed that Executive Chef Deborah Scherer is cooking at a very high level. Tuna tartare tower was large and filled with good sized pieces of perfect tuna and avocado dressed with a good wasabi mayo. Rack of lamb was a a full large rack of perfectly seasoned and cooked as ordered New Zealand lamb accompanied by mashed potatoes and asparagus and a delectable au jus.

The dining room is spacious with good room between tables and lighting is soft! The night we were there we were treated to great music from the very talented keyboard player and vocalist Danny Keane, which was an added pleasure. You can check the music schedule easily on their website.Overall, based on the quality of food, pricing and ambience, Bistro 72 can stand alongside any much better known restaurant on Long Island and hold its own.

Definitely a must for lovers of good classically prepared food.

The tragedy of this place is that it could be exceptional but remains, at best, uneven. The food is superior - locally sourced, creatively presented and, when its best, absolutely delicious. The room is pleasant and light (although a few fewer television screens would be an improvement), but the service is unpredictable and, when at its worst, is truly awful. There appears to be a preponderance of management staff, but a skeleton crew actually serving the tables or at work in the kitchen. Tables are slow to be cleared, food is slow to arrive, and flagging down a member of staff is often a real challenge.

In short, Bistro 72 was worth the visit for the food. the rest is a hit and miss proposition.

All was excellent. Caught time for special price fixed meal a fantastic value as they don’t cut down on portions. Food was very good. Overall pleasant dinner experience even with large party of 20 in adjoining room.

We dine at Bistro 72 quite frequently. We have always had consistently great meals. Today we tried the breakfast. We were very disappointed. The buffet selection was very limited. The Eggs were not very good. Sorry to say but we will continue to go for dinner but never again for breakfast!

it took at least 15 min before anyone came to our table. We ordered drinks & food
together. We asked for water also & It took so long to get wine.
A different Server brought just ONE Salad, they took it away when
I told her we both get one. By the time the salads finally came I had finished my
Wine. We needed a refill on water & the bus person serving the table next to us
Didn't even look at us as we were trying to get his attention. The rest of our dinner
became comical events of ignoring us,I wanted another glass of wine, & was afraid to
Order it because I wanted it WITH my dinner. I had dropped My steak knife & ended up sharing my husbands, wanted fresh pepper for my steak too, including wanting more water
(could they have given us a carafe of water?) impossible to get anyone's attention.
when she finally came back to our table to clear, bread plates, a butter knife, & other items were left on the table. She asked us If she could get us anything else. (This was restaurant week, so you get a 3 course dinner) I said yes we wanted the desserts & she had to go check what they were (3 choices) We again asked for water & none was brought, after desserts she brought the check & then asked if we wanted more water. We were looking to have a nice relaxing evening & it ended up being a big disappointment.
IMPORTANT NOTE: There is a tented area outside the restaurant which is lovely & heated,
outside of that They have an outdoor patio with a fire pit area. People were standing & smoking right outside the tented area (away from the fire pit where other people were siting) one person was looking in & smoke was coming in-- The manager said "sorry, they are allowed to smoke there". It was Gross, rude & just another annoying fact!
The LAW is 25 Feet Away from ANY EATING AREA. They are obviously understaffed& if you are looking for decent service this place is NOT it! Food was Not great, but good.
We will not be returning.

Must be said ...our experience was horrible !
Alexandra our waitress forgot to bring our drinks, never brought us bread, dinner took an hour and a half to come out !! $48 prime rib which should have been medium came out super well done!!! Drinks empty finally... waitress never came by to check on meal or see if we needed a refill! Horrible horrible horrible .....and so disappointing because I was so looking forward to a nice night out!

Expected better service and better food.

Ordered a London Lemonade, which was supposed to have raspberries, but had blueberries instead. Not a big deal, but it should have been mentioned ("we will be substituting blueberries for the raspberries...is that OK?")...that's all. One person at the table ordered a Panzanella salad, which was supposed to have roasted beets and pistachios on it, but didn't. When we told this to the server, she said, "this is the right salad, but I can see if the chef can ADD beets and pistachios for you." Since the person who ordered the salad had eaten a heavy appetizer, she just sent the salad back and asked it be taken off our bill.

Everyone else's meal was just OK. The pork chop was a little overcooked. Mushroom risotto was very nice. Scallops were good. Burger looked like a Bubba burger or some kind of pre-made frozen burger.

Desserts
Deconstructed sundae was disappointing. Heath crunch was stale and not crunchy. Bacon was not crispy.

Hazelnut Gelato Chocolate cake was yummy as was the Caramel Apple Cobbler.

Service
It seemed all night we could not get our server's attention. She would not make eye contact. And at one point, we literally had to go get her. When we finally got the check, the salad that was supposed to be removed was still on our bill. We called the manager over and explained and asked her to take care of it. Instead of taking care of it herself, she sent the server back with the updated check with just a "sorry." No offer to comp a dessert or maybe an offer of a free app for our next visit. Totally not necessary, but making mistakes on a $200 check and having a customer complain should have at least been handled by management.

One member of our party had recommended this restaurant and was quite embarrassed with the whole experience.

Oh, and live music ( a guy with a guitar) was way too loud and very repetitive.

Food is consistently good. Had the seafood bisque this visit and it was amazing! Never had a dish I didn’t like. Staff of great and attentive, would highly recommend this restaurant

The entrées were excellent. The salads were strange and that they had large chunks of bread in them. The soup was very good, and the desserts were outstanding. Our biggest complaint was that the service was very slow.
