Nice people, pretty place, very disappointing food. Beet salad never even came. Ordered the veal and the pasta/meat sauce. Pasta was ok, but underspiced. Veal was nearly inedible, like a frozen dinner. We were sorry to see this.
Despite being clearly understaffed on a busy Saturday night, the servers worked together to take care of guests and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time and was, as always, fantastic. We love this place!!
Healthy food in a convenient suburban setting. Main dining room off bar has more active vibe and preferred ambience for us. Those looking for quiet setting (still with view of kitchen) should request the dining room to left of entrance.
Food was great . Service was lacking
Delicious and fun! We were outdoors, which was noisy but we didn’t really care.
We had a wonderful evening, the food was fantastic, sitting outside was a treat (train noise notwithstanding). We come to Bistro 5 for special events and are never disappointed. Whatever is served, there is a perfect balance of flavors, attention to the smallest details, interesting takes on classic dishes. Highly recommended.
I have so missed this place!! I’m from CT love visiting for the fresh pasta and great atmosphere.
We ate outside but the inside has great ambience— small and chic without feeling stuffy. The food and wine were outstanding!!! And the server was personable efficient and professional. This place is fit for foodies.
We were a little disappointed with this restaurant. We booked an outside table and when we arrived there were none available. Luckily we could sit by a window inside next to the bar so it was fine. The appetizers were good - we got the polenta and the beet salad - I'd say the beet salad was a little small for the price. My husband ordered the steak medium rare. It came well done. We had to send it back and he ordered it rare this time to be safe because it was a pretty small steak. But I heard the waitress tell the chef "medium rare" so I had to correct her. When the new meal came it was very good, but I'd say still pretty small for the price. My sister and I ate here also one time earlier and the waiter, while very nice and friendly, could not answer any of our questions about the menu. It is not a big place and he was working again, so I assume he's there often. Luckily the bartender overheard and was able to answer our questions. That time I ordered the veal and it was a big portion, but I was not impressed with the presentation. It was basically just breaded and fried. It could've been chicken for all I know and the description made it sound much more interesting that it was. All in all, the prices are too high for this establishment; they're trying, but they need to try a little harder in my opinion.
Food was amazing! Small plates and combinations of apps made a great vegetarian meal for me and my husband LOVED his steak!
They created a great outdoor eating space on the sidewalk. Its a great view outside a victorian building with fascinating detail!
Food was excellent and service was even better. Parking wasn’t too hard to find either. Would definitely go back.
Went for DineOut Boston. Food was delicious. Good portions and just the right timing. Wine pairing was a nice touch that other restaurants don't always have.
The service is great. I was a bit surprised by the short list of entrees -5 choices plus 3 fresh pasta dish. But I was not disappointed by the tarragon Chicken. A sophisticated blend of herbs and veggies with grilled chicken. Very good. My friends got vegetarian burger, and a regular burger. They enjoyed their meals as well.
I will surely go back.
We went there because they were participating in the Dine Out Boston program. The food was delicious and the service was fine. My only complaint was the noise level.
Not very big portions at all, good quality food though, We asked for more bread thought he was bothered by it.
Service was not good. He mixed up the dessert and the cocktail was not what he said and was. He never checked to make sure everything was to our liking.
It was our first time there and loved every thing about it. Great find ! We will be back soon!!!
Bistro 5 Knocks it Out of the Park Again! We went during August '21 Restaurant week and for $38 for a three course meal and a $20 wine pairing, this could not be beat. I ordered the Scallops Ceviche, Tagliatelle Ragu, and the Olive Oil Cake. Mrs Reviewer ordered the Polenta, Haddock, and Flourless Chocolate Cake. Every dish was expertly prepared and wonderful. The wine pairings were extraordinary. In the past, I've found restaurants skimp on the food and wine portions during restaurant week (or even the wine pairing portions). Not so at Bistro 5; you are not getting a lesser-meal; just a great price. I appreciated that the wines were fresh and not poured from a bottle opened a few weeks ago and stored in the fridge (or worse yet, on the bar shelves). The meal was followed up by a cup of Cappuccino, which was brewed expertly as one would hope from an Italian restaurant. Go now before and Bon Appetite!
Great neighborhood gem. Despite a busy Friday, food and service were very good. Halibut was cooked more than my personal preference but the unusual presentation made up for it. Portions are generous. We took dessert home to enjoy. At $38 Boston Dine-In for 3 courses is definitely a bargain considering the quality of the menu items at Bistro Five.
Wish I hadn’t waited so long to try out this gem! Delicious food and loved the wine pairings with the Dine Out Boston prix fix menu. Service was outstanding and it was just lovely to eat outside.
We love Bistro 5 and always have a consistently outstanding experience here. The calamari is light and delicate, some of the best we’ve had anywhere. The halibut was cooked perfectly and served with lentils. The chocolate molten cake was one of the best I’ve ever had. This is a neighborhood gem for those folks who live close by - I’m 30 minutes away, and it’s worth the drive! Also the service is top notch.
Always enjoy Bistro 5! Food is great - wine pairings are exceptional and just a pleasant experience! Love having a nice restaurant that we don't have to drive into Boston to go to when we just want a nice quiet night out!
Delicious food and good service. The gnocchi, halibut and bolognese were terrific. Sadly they were out of the veggie burger. Desserts of flourless chocolate cake and olive oil cake also good. Great neighborhood find!
We went for Dineout Boston and it was wonderful!
Sat outside which was lovely. There is noise from traffic (you are on corner of Main St and close to train tracks). But trains go quick and not very often ( at least when we were there from 8:30 to 10:00). The food was very very good , so we were discussing food etc and noise was not bothersome. The hostess and waitress were extraordinary ! So helpful, cheerful and pleasant to talk with. Gabriella answered all questions we posed to her; they must work with chef to understand what goes into each dish. You can be sure we will return to this wonderful, unpretentious Italian restaurant !!
Went there during Dineout Boston. Food was excellent and perfectly cooked. Sat outside which is right by the train station so it was a bit noisy.
Really enjoyed the tasting menu and amaro flight as well as new items on the menu. Service very friendly and attentive. Very positive experience
Had the tasting menu, one appetizer and the dessert was good, the main course was ok. The mushroom pasta was outstanding, would go back specifically fir this dish.
Excellent food and prompt friendly service. The drinks are done of the best around.
We have been loyal patrons at Bistro 5 for many years! Last night we ate outside, enjoyed the $1 oysters and always great cocktails. The highlight of the meal was the branzino. This was one of the most beautiful plated dishes that I've ever seen (and the taste was as good as its looks). We will be back and not always on Tuesday when the $1 oysters are available.
We had a wonderful birthday dinner!
They were flexible in helping us be seated outside, which is what we wanted. They were so gracious in allowing us to stay past closing; we never felt pressured or rushed even though I’m sure they were anxious to head home. All the food was delicious and the drinks were great.
We enjoyed a great dinner early Saturday evening. This was only the second time we’ve been out this year. We would enjoy doing it again.
Concise menu. Items served from open kitchen were hot and well plated. Martini was served ice cold as is proper. Thanks
Pasta shines and chef specials are very good. They also know how to cook fish.
The ambience is nice but a bit too dark with a brown monochromatic palette.
I expect that they were short-staffed due to the pandemic and it showed. Hopefully with time this issue will be resolved.
Very good except for a horrible glass of Cabernet I sent back.
Great food and drinks!! We tried everything and all was fantastic!
The food is excellent. The service was great, too. Everything we ate was delicious and perfectly executed! It’s been consistently excellent for years and is our go-to restaurant for a real treat!
The food is delicious, the space is really nice and intimate, the cocktails are well-made, and the staff was super attentive without being overbearing. 10/10 would highly recommend. We’ll definitely be returning.
Fabulous restaurant! Hidden gem. Loved the food and the service.
