The cheeseboard was amazing! People were asking us what it was so they could order it, too! My filet mignon was cooked perfectly medium rare. The dessert selection was excellent--I recommend the churros!!!
We again celebrated a special occasion, day before Christmas Eve, and enjoyed a nice prime rib. We are a family of eight and even the kid food has a gourmet flair. This place is a hidden gem but we noticed that many of the reviews are very critical of the hotel lobby setting. We think if the restaurant installed three decorative translucent pieces of glass to separate the restaurant from the hotel entry and from the front desk, this would assuage the critics. It's a shame other reviewers can't see past the hotel lobby setting because the food is great.

If you are going to do a fixed menu for a special occasion like "Thanksgiving meal" make sure you serve it hot and serve enough so you don't go away still feeling hungary after spening a fortune.
Excellent Thanksgiving meal for ten of us including children. Why anyone would cook on Thanksgiving when you can get a gourmet traditional turkey (or prime rib) dinner with all the trimmings. We were seated near the fireplace and our waiter Ramon was very accommodating. The meal included an appetizer of butternut or asparagus soup or a mixed green salad medley and freshly made desserts. The chef did an outstanding job with presentation. We will go back for Christmas Eve Brunch.
I appreciated the open breakfast bar for someone with a short amount of time. Gets a little noisy because of the meetings and convention attendees who stay over. Nice staff and fast service.
We had a great time celebrating a birthday dinner. All enjoyed their food and serivce was wonderful. Lots of tasty options!
Nice value for great food. Food, menu, service and selection are all very positive. The only knock would be that the restaurant doesn't have much separation between it and the associated hotel lobby. Highly recommend for food and value.
Their website shows a wonderful appearing prime rib dinner. The meal served was far from that. I'm not even sure it was a rib roast. The outer fat marbled muscle (known as the cap or lip was nowhere to be found. There was no characteristic marbling therefore little flavor. The outer portion was mealy indicating some sort of steam cooking at some point. I assumed the sauce provided with it was a traditional horseradish based sauce but was sadly disappointed. My wife had a chefs salad with "grilled" chicken breast. The grill marks looked like they were stamped on mechanically like the frozen ones you find in a grocery store and had little or no grilled flavor. The restaurant is open to the Hilton Garden Inn hotel lobby and the foot traffic is very distracting especially when people walk up to the lobby water service table within several feet of your table. The wait person was very friendly and efficient but his clothing was rather disheveled.
Great as always. Gourmet meals at an affordable price. This is our special occasion and Thanksgiving place.
We come here every Thanksgiving and special occasion. I cannot cook a gourmet meal on Thanksgiving for the Bistro 39 price. We have six children and it is a great value but more importantly, fit for foodies. The wine selection is very good and affordable as well. Hidden gem in a Hilton Garden Inn.
Restaurant is in the hotel lobby which was a little disappointing. The pizza, however, was excellent (sausage, heirloom tomatoes and arugula). The watermelon and steak salad was also good but the steak was over cooked. This is a good casual eating experience.
The service from Adam was excellent! He was very attentive. The atmosphere is friendly and the food was fabulous!
Let me start with... Amazing food!! S great Valentines experience. Filet Mignon melts in your mouth and the Halibut outstanding!! Loved It!!
Nice location and family environment. I was surprised by the turkey being pink. Taste was ok but look and texture questionable. Also there was only the two of us at the table and the bill already included a 20% gratuity. This is usually done at bigger tables but we were not told prior to our order that this would be done - not appreciated! Then when I received the bill there was the final amount plus a place to add tip. I think this is deceiving.
We used Open Table to find this place at the spur of the moment. While they politely and pleasantly accommodated our party of 9 at the drop of a hat, we were somewhat disappointed that the "restaurant" is actually just tables in the lobby of a dreary hotel. Not exactly a dining room. We watched people check in while we ate.
We were three at a Friday night dinner. choosing Bistro 39 was an absolute success. The weekly wine was a real party, the dishes were excellent, and the service was superb. Bistro 39 is a real gem Torrey hills, one must try. Highly recommended!!!
You absolutely would not believe the restaurant in a suburban motel could be a comfort food gourmet treat but this place is. Need comfort food try the short rib sandwich. Gourmet? Order the halibut. Trust me. You will not believe this place. Everyone I take here loves it. Maybe I have strange friend but maybe I am right.
Don't let the strange ambiance of a hotel lobby fool you -- this place exceeds the normal hotel restaurant with cool spins on very good dishes. Food was excellent, better than expected. And the bread service was a great way to start - warm, artistic, with flair! Nicely done!
It was hard to find reasonable, nice restaurants open in San Diego for Xmas dinner so we picked Bistro 39 based on reviews. Dinner was good but not outstanding with the exception of the oil and vinegar art work for the bread which is apparently a highlight for the restaurant. Our salmon was a little dry and the key lime pie was more like a tart but overall a good experience. The dining room is situated right off the lobby and is open to it which is a little strange. Would have been more intimate if the room was enclosed.
This bistro is tucked inside a Hilton Garden Inn - not where you'd expect to find exceptional food. Because it sits right in the hotel lobby, I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic evening - unless you were staying at the hotel and wanted to be able to toddle right back to your snug room. The food was well prepared and presented. Very fresh ingredients, generous portions. We picked it because it was one of the few places open on Christmas Eve. There was only one waiter - who was kept pretty busy.
What a pleasant surprise to discover this restaurant in the Hilton Garden Inn/Del Mar. We all enjoyed our dinners which included a
pan fried pistachio chicken breast in a blueberry wine reduction, portobello wellington, penne pasta in alfredo sauce and a seared salmon salad, all of which were very good. The menu included sandwiches, salads and pizza. This bistro is good for a fine dining experience as well as for a casual meal. We are coming back for the prime rib special in December! Service was prompt and pleasant and the wine prices were very reasonable. While we had dinner, the bar was packed..... looked like a good happy hour.
Breakfast was much better than dinner. Glad we tried again

You should advise customers that Bistro 39 is in a hotel. We ate in the lobby, not in a dining room. The staff, on the other hand, was excellent.
Surprised to find this in a Hotel Lobby on a carpeted area across from the front desk. Not noisy, just slightly odd. However he food and wine were quite god and the service staff were very pleasant and friendly. Had a good time.
Me and my wife went there on 2/14/13 and had a very nice time. The little reservation sign was cool and things just got better while we were there. the service was great, the food was great. We had a positively memorable time there. There will be a next time. the only thing I will do different is add my wife's name to the reservation.
Food was decent but atmosphere not anything like photo on open table. Very bright and unappealing for dinner maybe because it is near the reception desk of the hotel. Small bar is the only dim lit area of restaurant.
This restaurant is attached to the Hilton Garden which is not noted in the Open Table listing which made it difficult to locate. Don't let that deter you from this place. The food was very good and the atmosphere is relaxed and not fancy.
We dined at Bistro 39 for Easter brunch. Parking was easy and close and upon entering, the hotel had a lovely open feeling. To the left was the bristro with only about 10 or so tables, making it a very intimate dining experience. Soft piped-in music added to the calm, relaxed atmosphere. For brunch, you could order hot breakfast items from the kitchen/grill or help yourself to the entrees of ham, almond chicken, asparagus & brie quiche, butternut squash lasagna,potatoes, grilled asparagus, along with fresh fruit, spring greens, breakfast pastries, and beverages of iced tea, orange juice, or a mimosa. Dessert was also self-serve with choices of carrot cake, chocolate cake or eclairs. Everything was delicious; staff was friendly & helpful.
Ok, it was Easter brunch... so I kind of expected more. The food was ok, mostly warmed up stuff on in the pan. The omelet's were good, as the eggs Benedict. Bacon was lame and overall just not worth $25 a person.
Food was ordinary and under seasoned. Only one waitress for all tables so service was slow and no one came to check on us. It is an ordinary hotel restaurant with nothing special about it

My turn to plan Valentine's Day dinner. Chose it for the price and the menu. Surprised to find it was in the Hilton Garden. It met or exceeded all expectations. Food was very good. The recommended wine was great. It was a small area, but for the most part quiet. Didn't feel crowded or hurried. Our waiter, Daniel, was great. It was a lovely evening, and we both decided we would go back sometime to try their regular menu.
Turkey dinner came cold. (at the time there were only 2 other tables occ. Once we got the food there was sooooo much sage that we couldn't eat it. My husband got steak, which he loved. Although it was thanksgiving I guess I should have ordered off menu.
I should have studied the website more carefully when making the--admittedly late--reservation for Valentine's Day. This "restaurant" is a small area off the lobby of a lower-tier hote, the Hilton Garden. The Valentine's Day special menu had sounded appealing, but the food was sub-par, the presentation awkward, and "wine pairings" silly. As to the latter, all were serve--without intriduction--in commercial grade goblets--from the sparkler served with the first course to the dessert wine.
Un unexpected find. Very lovely time was had by all. Service staff very friendly. Will definitelt return.
