There were four of us, none of whom had ever visited. We all loved it! To the point that the next day, we continued to discuss how delicious our dinner was the previous evening. Highly recommend this restaurant!
Had wanted to try Bistro 29's savory crepes for a long while, and was not disappointed. Enjoyed a pleasant lunch of crepe and wine with good friends. Inadvertently scheduled during restaurant week, so was perhaps busier than usual. I look forward to returning on a quieter day.
I had my birthday dinner at Bistro 29 and it was fantastic. We had an amazing meal, every bite was delicious. The atmosphere, music, ambience, and service were exceptional. I look forward to my next visit!
My guests and I were pretty disappointed with the main courses based on the rating. We had better from other restaurants.
Our server and the help were very nice.
Great service solid food.
We love this restaurant! It has the best food around.
A real gem. Superb French California cuisine, excellent service and casual ambiance.
Great meal! Traveling solo so I sat at the bar and enjoyed a wonderful meal, several wines and the terrific service. All of the staff I spoke with were friendly and welcoming and truly seems to enjoy working there. A terrific sign.
The team at Bistro 29 is cooking some excellent French style food. I tried the Cassoulette and would highly recommend it for a rich filling meal. As good if not better than ones I’ve had in France.
Definitely would return when in Santa Rosa .
Bistro 29 is a lovely French restaurant - food is great, nice ambience, nice wine list and knowledgable servers. We had the crepes (both the mushroom and the ratatouille) - both were really good, the portion sizes were perfect and frites and prawns . We ended up with a couple of glasses of Zinfandel - perfect with our meal. We arrived early (they open at 5 pm) and had a leisurely and delicious meal before rushing off to a performance. Highly recommended. Be sure to reserve as this is a small and cozy spot in Santa Rosa.
We have never had a bad experience at Bistro 29. It's consistently good.
Nice spot when you dont want to skimp and also want french food. Once a year type place for me....nice, but reasonable nice.
Rich food, you dont need to eat at all the next day. French. Rich. Nice.
Always a treat! Great Valentine’s Day dinner fixed price menu.
A very fine evening. Our wait-staff was all one could hope for: friendly, informative, good at suggestions for the evening menu, yet supportive of our choices. (In particular, she paid good attention to my wife's dietary constructions - bravo!) Dinner was exceptionally delicious, as was the appetizer AND the dessert...what can I say? We were very pleased. The noise level was rather high early on, exacerbated by the smallness of the room. Yet, being February 13, I was glad to get a table early on since nothing was available on Valentine's Day.
We will return. There's a reason Bistro 29 has been doing well for ten years. It's worth the visit.
We love Bistro 29 - and look forward to their excellent prix fixe meals emails and go often!
Took out of town visitors to this Santa Rosa downtown gem. Food is consistently excellent and at a reasonable price. Wine list has some unusual items, although it doesn't have as many local wines as I expected. Good range of prices.
Service was attentive and friendly without hovering.
The room is a little noisy for holding a quiet conversation among 4 seniors.
This is our favorite restaurant in Santa Rosa. We love French food, travel to France annually and Bistro 29 Is a wonderful treat for my husband and I. The foie gras is to die for, the steak frites is sumptuous and I love the mussels and fish dishes. Soups are delicious. Service is efficient, intimate and personal. A real gem!
A real gem! Food was fabulous, as it always is. The daube of beef just melted in my mouth. it is worth a special trip to have the quennelles. Bistro 29 is my favorite French restaurant.
I have been many times to Bistro 29. This last time, the restaurant was very busy so service was not as good as it should have been. It took 15-20 minutes to get a glass of sparkling wine they happened to be providing as it was their anniversary, over to the table. It was over 2 hours to dine which was too long. They were great with my friend who had special dietary needs. The food was good overall but my mussels, although quite tasty- were tiny. Not big and flavorful mussels. Pernod broth super tasty, just wish I had better mussels. Fries and salad were delish. My husband had steak frites and he said it was quite good. We will go back as we have had many excellent meals there -
We enjoyed our meal. The prix fixe was an excellent value. We did think that the service was a bit slow between salad and entree. We were very pleased that our request to be seated by a wall or in a corner due to hearing issues was honored.
We will be back....soon. We love French food.
We've been to Bistro 29 several times and have never been disappointed. The food and service are outstanding. There is nothing on the menu that I would not enjoy. Great wine list too, and reasonably priced.
Wonderful French cuisine featuring specialties from the Brittany region in France. We had just returned from Paris and the meal here was much better than a few of the ones we had dined at in France. Great crepes and galettes too. My husband raved about his Grand Marnier dessert crepe for days.
We all had a great & relaxing time at lunch. The two gentlemen both selected the lamb burger. One salad, very fresh. I choose beef sandwich, with onion soup. We shared the beignets for dessert. Server was excellent.
I went completely fish. the halibut appetizer was the best ever. It MELTED in my mouth. Then I selected the scallops, always a favorite. Cooked perfectly. Server was great. Everything was so outstanding that we went back the next day with a friend for lunch. Only thing lacking was my ability to speak more French. Chef Brian makes this place a treasure.
Both my friend and I hadn't ever been to Bistro 29, but had heard good things about it and wanted to give it a try. We went for lunch, but will definitely come back for a dinner sometime. We had a great time visiting, both of us loved what we ordered, and the wait-staff person, Emily, was very attentive and genuine. We were glad we chose Bistro 29 for our lunch together.
Exquisite French cuisine in lively bistro atmosphere. Excellent service.
I treated my parents for their anniversary. They said the hostess and waitperson both greeted them with "happy anniversary". They loved the quiet atmosphere and enjoyed the food immensely.
Enjoyed the lunch. Came here a few months ago and was disappointed in the lunch menu and service. It's definitely improved.
Bistro 29 has long been a favorite downtown stop for us in in Santa Rosa but, in the wake of the horrific wildfires of last October, it seems to have become more of a gathering spot for locals with more of a cozy dining club atmosphere. Given the drastic blows dealt to the city on both personal and business levels, that can only be a good thing!
Excellent traditional French food and wine at a sensible price point; quiet atmosphere for both business lunches and evening get-togethers with old and new friends. Smart, efficient servers who also take excellent care of folks dining alone. Lunch menu is ideally drawn up for both diners in a hurry (crepes) and those seeking a more indulgent event (steak w. frites).
Parking is easy to find, the wine list is smartly chosen and reservations always honored to the minute. The city will need all the economic support it can find in the coming year(s) and I can't think of a better place to do my civic duty.
This was our first time at Bistro 29 and we will return. We were a few minutes early for our 7:15 reservation but hostess seated us promptly. Our dinner was fantastic with excellent pairings of meat and vegetable. I had the Bistro filet and enjoyed every morsel I ate there and had some leftover. Wine list offers French and Northern CA varietals with the option to taste the wine if unfamiliar with the winery. My friend had the beef special which was superb in tenderness and flavor. Garlic grilled Shrimp appetizer was 4 large shrimp which were excellent as the broth it swam it. Bread and butter complimented the meal and made mopping up the shrimp broth easy. Wait staff is quite friendly, pleasant, knowledgeable, aware of meal’s progress, and are not stuffy or overbearing. We felt our expectations were more than satisfied. We highly recommend Bistro 29.
We have been to Bistro 29 several times and always have a great experience. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Food is well done with amazing flavor. The vegetarian special is always a good option.
Four of us all chose the prix fixe - independent of each other, we didn't confer - and enjoyed each of the dishes. The soup was delicious, the crispy crepe was a surprise, but also delicious, and the beef stew (I forget the name) was wonderful, to the point that our guest, who is a real "foodie" and chef, asked how long it had been cooked and what cut of beef, so he could try to duplicate it at home.
The dessert crepes were really good also.
The after dinner wines were a bit pricey, but that was our choice, so we can't complain. Overall, the evening was very good. The staff were all very personable, pleasant and helpful.
We are in wine country and the wine service was dicey, she opened and poured the wine without letting me taste the wine. Yes, sparkling wine can be corked, yes, white wine can be corked, I finally had to ask. And, ordering a bottle of wine was extremely difficult, there was six of us, we had a bottle of bubbles, a white and two reds. We would have ordered a dessert wine but she was non existent. And, we had Urbered it! They were not busy and we all felt like we were an afterthought. The food was fine, but not memorable.
The problem with Bistro 29 is that it is simply too good. Try as we might to restrain ourselves, we always indulge a bit more than we should. Last nights fixed price menu, the beef carbonnade, was sublime and 3 of our party ordered it with the wine pairing and all were delighted. I had the best baby kale salad (I didn't even know a kale salad could be so divine). The candied bacon, the nuts, the cheese, and the orange sliced made a refreshing salad that was exquisitely presented. I tell myself that I have to stop ordering the figgy pudding with the caramel sauce but as of yet, haven't managed that. It is my favorite dessert. We never tire of this restaurant.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in the Greater Santa Rosa area. The food is always first rate. Lots of variety. People who love fine dining and those who just want a very fine meal will enjoy Bistro 29. Also like it for lunch. Very nice for special occasions too.
Incredible food. Great ambiance. Always enjoy dining at Bistro 29!
Wonderful date night! Food was delicious and service was perfect. Can’t wait to return!
Excellent French dishes with a California twist, highly recommend Chef rj
Bistro 29-always a favorite. On the pricier side but well worth the cost. Wait staff a bit slower than normal-especially w/drinks and water. But hardly enough to complain. One of the few restaurants in Santa Rosa that actually qualifies as romantic-with a menu to match. Don't miss Bistro 29
The ambience was very nice. The prix fixe menu was all that was available for NY Eve. The food wasn't 5-star IMHO, but it was very good.
Wobbly table, Gritty/ sandy lettuce, courses served out of order, wrong item delivered, overly apologetic server, table next to us served entree before us although they were seated after us and had just finished their 2nd course. not a good experience. Won’t be back. Overpriced.
