Bistro 27 Ratings and Reviews
Had the Sea Base with crab. The problem was that one only one lump of crab on top of an over cooked sea base. The vegetables were meager and no taste. The meal was over priced.
My date had the pear/arugula salad with shrimp. Two shrimp and too much arugula with two slices of pear. Again, over priced.
My date was told that the before dinner drink was comp but I was charged $ 8. Did not even want to go there with the waitress.
Go across the street to Max. Looking through the front windows, Max was full and Bistro had three tables with guest and this is on Friday night with a show down the street.
My husband and I celebrated our 31st anniversary at Bistro 27 and it was great - quiet, romantic, love the large windows and being able to look out onto the street while dining, food was outstanding, service impeccable. Cant' wait to return. Sherrie and Aubrey Payne
Unfortunately I cannot provide a positive review for Bistro 27. We dined on a Wednesday night and there were not two other table of diners when we arrived. These diners were finishing up. I informed both the host and our waitress that we had tickets for an event close by in one hour. We both ordered salads and my request was for a special salad being offered. Our waitress was brand new and very pleasant but mis-informed me about the salad. Her trainer returned to our table and "corrected" the description of the special. We waited for a half hour for our salads with no other diners in the restaurant. When the salads came, mine did not match the description I was given and the salmon added to it was over cooked and very dry. Sorry, I don't plan to return.
We were in Richmond for the weekend and found this restaurant gem for a Saturday evening night out. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The young server was very professional but personable. The flow of the service was perfect, allowing us time to consider from the multiple specials the chef had to offer that evening in addition to the menu. When we placed our wine order, the owner presented himself and suggested we consider trying a different wine within our price range that was of a finer quality. That rarely happens!! We were so pleased with the wine and the opportunity to meet the wonderful and friendly owner. Can't wait to return some day!
First visit. Excellent experience. Will definitely be back. The service was exceptional and the ambiance was very pleasant. Especially appreciated the low noise level as we were dining with friends and wanted to converse. Keep the white tablecloths when you remodel!
We have a birthday group and instead of purchasing gifts, we treat to a special dinner out. I had heard good reviews about Bistro 27 and was anxious to try.
The ambiance was pleasant. Our food was good and arrived in a timely fashion.
The drinks were disappointing--too little alcohol or too much or the wrong cocktail.
The server couldn't quite get the bill together at the end. But she was very pleasant and courteous.
I recommend the terra miso. It was one of the best I've eaten.
Service was pretty good although the waiter seemed fairly new. The waiter did not bring us fresh plates for the appetizer so the owner took two from another table and told us he was going to see if our waiter even noticed. That was very unprofessional for him to set a trap for his waiter and tell us about it. The calamari was slightly under cooked. The pear salad was pickled so that was odd to me. The scallops and quail were very good. Our wine selection was swapped out and we were not given an option-it was chosen for us. That should have been our choice.
After dinner the owner came over to chat and while we were in mid conversation, he spotted dinner guests that he knew and abruptly left our table and joined them. Extremely rude and clearly he chose to talk with them instead of us.
With all of the restaurant choices locally, especially west end where we live, we will NOT be back...
This was our first time to Bistro 27 with our dinner out group. Our party was greeted warmly and seated. Service was attentive. The food was wonderful. The ambiance is perfect. We even had a conversation with William Wright, the owner, who went out of his way to make the evening memorable. We'll definitely be back.
Our dinner on May 20th was last minute as I decided I would take my husband out and try somewhere different. (We tend to rotate favourites!). Due to the construction outside on Broad Street, you may give this a miss - however, DON"T! The chef is new, and we shared the artichoke and ham appetizer, which was delicious, the ham a taste of something different. It was served with three pieces of bread (suggestion: add one more when there are two!). Our server was very attentive, knew the specials without referring to any notes, and filled my water glass without being asked (a key for me in any restaurant). I chose the salmon, which came with the most delicious sauce made from strawberries. The starch of the day was mashed potatoes, and we had a small serving of squash. My husband chose the chicken special, which probably could have used sliced more proscuitto, although still very flavourful. We came away promising to return, soon.
Enjoyed our before theater dinner. Bistro 27 is less than a block from VA Rep’s theater. Exceptional calamari appetizer, light, flavorful & tender. Pear salad, pears poached nicely. Scallop entrée, scallops melt in your mouth. And, have to mention the mashed potatoes, yum. Enjoyed conversations with the chef/owner. Felt right at home. Two-story full length windows, amazing view for people watching and historic buildings on Broad St.
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our Mother's Day brunch! The atmosphere was inviting and the staff was extremely friendly! Although the portion size might not be adequate for some, it was perfect for me, and the food was top notch! We will definitely be back!
We went to Bistro 27 for brunch on Mother's Day. When I initially booked the reservation I went to the restaurant's website to look at the menu since I have never been before and I was paying for a party of seven. The menu looked reasonably priced and had good food choices. The day before our reservation I got an email reminder from Open Table. I again went to the website only to find out there was a set menu and price for Mother's Day. It was too late to change reservations so I only hoped the food would be worth the hefty price of brunch. Unfortunately I was disappointed as were most in my party. The food was lukewarm. The appetizers were in the front window with the sun blaring down on the shrimp and fruit. My daughters got French toast and it was four small pieces of French toast that looked like they had been microwaved and nothing else. For the price ($430!!!) I paid I was extremely disappointed and will not be returning to Bistro 27 anytime soon.
The food was good but a bit pricey. Overall a solid choice. Went for graduation and it was great for a special occasion. However, the service was rough at a few times. The waitress spilled wine on me and poured the wrong wine in another guest in my parties glass.
We went on Mother's Day weekend, which also happened to coincide with VCU graduation and about 50 proms. It was packed, and we were a party of 8. The servers were great. Very thoughtful, attentive, and quick to address us. The kitchen ended up losing our order, though, and even though they comped us a bottle of wine for the trouble (which was great!), the food just wasn't as tasty as it was expensive, which was a letdown after a 45 minute wait. The atmosphere is great for a date or special occasion.
I started looking for reservations around 5:00p for a Saturday night at 6:30p for 3 and I had trouble finding something available. I was a bit concerned that Bistro 27 had as many reservations available. So, with a bit of concern, I made the reservation. No need for concern. Food was very good. The lamb shank I had was made perfectly and the pairing with asparagus and polenta worked well. Service was excellent - attentive but not overwhelming. Bistro 27 is not on my go to list.
I really loved the restaurant. The only part that brought the experience down so low was the large party that seemed to be very inconsiderate and just dominate that side of the restaurant. Minus that party, the ambiance, the food, service, and experience was very good. I will try again and give a fair shot to them.
Our waiter was perfectly charming, and we spoke to the manager at one point, and he was very friendly. However, they had run out of several dishes, so my friend and I ended up getting side dishes. They were very good, but it's too bad the kitchen runs out of main dishes. It just wasn't up to par overall.
