We had Sunday brunch at Bistro 27 while we were killing time waiting for our hotel room to become available. Although not officially open until 10:30 am, they let us in early to get out of the brisk March chill. We both had Eggs Benedict, me with crab cake and my wife with smoked salmon; both dishes were excellent, including the well prepared hollandaise sauce and perfectly poached eggs. The atmosphere was pleasant and the owner was engaging, stopping by our table to chat with us at length. Our waiter, only on his second day of work, was very attentive. The only discordant note was the piped in Millennial-techno Euro Pop. The ambience would have been much better served by, for example, instrumental jazz such as Bill Evans Live at the Village Vanguard. All in all, a pleasant place to enjoy a meal, and we will return the next time we visit Richmond.
The food here has always been exceptional. Last evening was no exception. I had my go-to seafood stew. My partner was gushing about the lamb shank. Located in the Arts District, we were there before heading across the street to see the magnificent Eva DeVirgilis in her one woman show, “In My Chair”. William, the owner/manager at Bistro 27 has maintained a steady presence in a competitive food scene in RVA.
Fabulous restaurant. The food was wonderful and the service was excellent! We will definitely come back and highly recommend Bistro 27.
Celebrating my husband's birthday, so we wanted something nice. We were not disappointed. We were greeted by the owner, promptly seated, and served drinks. Dinner came quickly and was delicious. We ordered the orchiette and sausage. The sauce was amazing! Ordering dessert was difficult, because all of the choices were tempting. We decided to try the lemon marscapone cake, with the promise to return for tiramisu. When dessert came, we were pleasantly surprised to see that in addition to the lemon marscapone cake, we received a complimentary tiramisu! The owner stopped by the table to chat and was very welcoming. Before leaving the restaurant, we made reservations to return for Easter Brunch!
My favorite Sunday Brunch place in Richmond... outstanding...been here for dinner, too...equally outstanding
We arrived to a snafu and our Open Table reservation wasn't in their system but they happily accommodated us anyway, setting a table while we ordered drinks at the bar despite what looked like a full house. Had a LOVELY table for two in the front window. William recommended a great wine in our price range. Food was terrific! And really reasonably priced in my opinion. We had the Mussels and the grapefruit salad to start - both yummy. Then Bistro steak and Orechiette/Sausage... all the food was delicious and just what you'd want from a neighborhood restaurant (i wish Bistro 27 was in OUR neighborhood!). Great service, great spot, looking forward to going back again when we are in Richmond!
We had a wonderful meal and great service. Though we had ample time, the host and our server were very attuned to our plans to make an 8 p.m. showing at a nearby theater. Making the reservation for two was a snap. I would definitely return!
The atmosphere was very bistro, but on the upscale side. Service was good. It wasn't busy the on the night(Tuesday) that we ate there, but my guess is that Thursday though Sunday in Arts District would be much busier. So I would make a reservation. They were out of a couple menu items on the evening that we attended. The food was good. The drinks were generous. We would go back.
THIS VENUE IS ALWAQYS TOP NOTCH.....THE SERVICE IS BEYOND GREAT AS IS THE FOOD.....IT IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PLACES TO DINE IN RICHMOND...THE FOOD IS ALWAYS GREAT....THE SERVICE BEYOND EXCELLENT....AND THE WELCOMING ATMOSPHERE ARE ALL COMBINED TO MAKE THIS A NUMBER ONE FOOD DESTNATION.
Bistro 27 accommodated our schedule and made sure we got the food in time to enjoy it before a show. Servers were friendly and helpful though they were somewhat pressed by the crowd.
Good food and nice place. We’ll be back.
Bistro 27 is always our go to restaurant when we are going to the Rep for a play & when we just feel like driving from the other end of Chesterfield County ! Everything is always spot on - - - always.
We had a wonderful meal. Everything from appetizer to dessert was delicious. Our server was outstanding and attentive without being overly so. They made sure to get us in and out in time for a show across the street.
The food was delicious! We shared the crab Au gratin appetizer. It would have been nice to have more of the toasted bread they served with it. My husband had the scallops. They melted in your mouth. I went a little out of my comfort zone and had the fish stew. It was a cold rainy night so the stew sounded perfect to me. It was great and filling. They brought fresh bread so I was able to get every last drop. We ate at 6 and the restaurant was quiet even though there were several other patrons. The wait staff was very attentive, informative, and pleasant. We had an enjoyable dining experience!
Won't lie. This was our third choice - but we're SO GLAD the other two turned us away because we didn't have a reservation.
A rainy Friday night around 8PM a few days after Valentine's Day. We had to be somewhere by 9PM. We were seated near the window, greeted promptly and served Prosecco with our menus...without even ordering it! They could tell we were on a date. So accommodating, considering we were in a bit of a hurry. They warned us that the duck would take 20 minutes or more to cook. It was DELICIOUS - we were fork fighting over the last morsels. We also ordered arugala salad and the mussels. We split everything between the two of us and it was the perfect amount of food. Excellent beverage selection, attentive and friendly staff - we really felt so welcome and cared for. And we made it to our 9 o'clock show! Will certainly visit again!! Thank you William!
We go to Bistro 27 every year for our anniversary. The service is always outstanding and the food is amazing! The manager takes pride in his establishment! The lamb meatballs were out of this world!
We had a 6:30p reservation but didn’t get seated till 6:50p. They were either short staffed or normally don’t have a host, but the owner was seating people and taking orders. A couple before us left because they didn’t want to wait any longer. The food was good, but unfortunately the service was less than par, which made the experience unpleasant.
A pleasant environment...
The choice and prep of the vegetables was ordinary.
The duck was very good.
Perfect stop before theatre
The owner was very polite and greeted every table. The waitress was well trained and even held the door for us as we were leaving. Great food and great atmosphere.
Great spot for date night or special occasion.
Excellent food but for the cost, the portions were small
Fantastic food. The Hemmingway drink is a can't miss drink.
We had a reservation for Valentines Day. We got there about 5 minutes late. After about 5 minutes we were being seated but at the table by the kitchen doors even though the place was about a 3rd empty. We asked to be seated at another table. After about another 5 minutes they found another table for us. This one was better but it was next to the server's register. The food came out fast, but a bit too fast. We had barely gotten the bread when the appetizers came out. We had a little bit of a gap between appetizers and the main course but not much. Other than those things the service was good.
Disappointed they didn't read my OpenTable Reservation Seating Request and the notation of this special dinner.
We enjoyed a delightful St. Valentine's Day dinner at Bistro 27. The food was delicious and appealingly presented, the service was superb, and the owner personally welcomed us at our table. Highly recommend.
EXCELLENT brunch and amazing drink specials. I got the crab meat eggs Benedict and it was delicious. Not sure why this place isn't busier!
Special evening with friends. We were there before the crowds which made it easy to hear the conversations! The food was fabulous, our server was attentive without hovering, allowing us to enjoy our time and the food! Thank you!
CLOSED! We made reservation for brunch Feb. 3rd at 12.15PM. The restaurant was NOT OPEN! The door sign said open at 10:30AM. We were able to get seated at Max's across the street. Bistro 27 was clearly visible and clearly closed. Very bad.
The staff here was excellent and the food was great too. Very much appreciated the vegetarian options and the ability to customize dishes
The restaurant is lovely with good service and ambiance however, we found the dishes not very exciting or flavorful.
Out standing service excellent food and a lovely location we will be back
What started out as a potential thrill ride turned out to be a busted experience. The wait staff was superb knowledgeable and engaging. I should have taken his advice on what to order. We did partially. Appetizers were very good including lamb meatballs and freshly prepared calamari. But downhill from there. The orders were salad, crispy duck breast, sea bass eith crab and salmon and chicken. All but salad were served with over cooked broccoli no and watery lukewarm mashed potatoes. Entrees varies in taste and preparation but the worst most vile was my wife’s salmon. Apparently she was perturbed by slow eating and I promoted her for me to try it. It was disgusting. Malodorous al through beautifully baked. I think it was not only not fresh but frozen and thawed and just disgusting. My sea bass was billed as with lump crab but it wasn’t and filled with about a tablespoon of crab pieces. The fish was fair
A light rose from France saved my meal for me
No dessert taken
A bad choice and not a return for me despite 1000 points and understan d why they need to do that
We totally enjoyed our dinner at Bistro 27. The atmosphere was really nice and our food was delicious and the portion size for the price was excellent!
Food and service were both very good. Had pasta dishes. Very tastey. Will return to dine again.
Food was great and service excellent.
My girlfriend and I decided to have a nice dinner for New Years Eve and Bistro 27 did not disappoint. The service was top notch, the food was excellent, it was a very relaxed atmosphere, and one employee even came out to help me find the parking pay station that had been moved. We will be dining here again very soon!!!
My wife and I chose Bistro 27 for our New Year's Eve celebration. Our sever, Margaret, was very attentive to our needs and was a delightful hostess. The food was excellent and was just the right portion size. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and would recommend Bistro 27 without hesitation.
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants. I don't know if ownership has changed or what. Our New Year's Eve experience was not good at all. The food was tasteless. The only positive was the service was excellent. We will not be going back.
Since we were arriving a few nights ahead of NY's Eve, the restaurant was extremely quiet, just a few couples so we were thankful it wasn't loud. Our waiter was extremely attentive given the slow evening but I'm hopeful that is the standard of Service when the restaurant is busy. I had the mussels and my husband had the seafood soup which was incredibly chock full of tasty bits of fish, clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, you name it, it was in it. Absolutely delicious! We will definitely be back for another visit!
