BISTECCA – An Italian Steakhouse (formerly The Grotto) Ratings and Reviews
We went here for the first time to celebrate my wife's birthday and WOW! Everything was absolutely spot on the entire evening. For starters, we chose the Potato Soup and Texas Blue Crab Fingers to which both were savory and delicious. It was hard to choose our entrée as the menu has so many well desired dishes, but we finally went with the Chateubriand for Two. It came accompanied with garlic mashed potatoes, sautéed spinach and roasted mushrooms. The steak was cooked to perfection and the sides, especially the roasted mushrooms were fantastic. Since it was my wife's birthday, she was offered a complimentary dessert and chose the Grotto Pecan Twill (Lace pecan candy tower filled with chocolate mousse, launched over creme anglaise and caramel sauce). This was probably one of the best desserts we've each ever had! The staff was friendly, attentive and our waiter was outstanding. The Chef even came out to our table to make sure everything was to our liking. I highly recommend this place and we will 100% be back. In fact, we have already made reservations for our next visit.
This is our "go-to" place in Highland Village. I have been coming to this restaurant for over 23-years. We had the seared Tuna with wasabi caviar as an appetizer. So good. My friends each had a salad (Cesar and Caprese) and both were rather large and very yummy. As the main course, we had salmon, sea bass, and New York Strip Steak. goodness was that awesome. We hope to do this "girls night out" every 6-months now.
We have dined at BISTECCA, formerly The Grotto, several times over the years. We have never been disappointed. The food is always excellent, the service superb, and it is always fun to be personally greeted and thanked by Morris. It is also fun to see the reaction of the obvious “1st timers “ when Morris personally greets them. It is such a nice touch of class by an organization that is always first class. We will return many times in the future.
Solid dinner but not spectacular. Our server was polite and attentive but could have been a bit better. He went over the specials, came right back and asked if we were ready to order -- no appetizers and our drinks had yet to even come out so we felt a bit rushed. We had to ask for bread, which every other table had around us. The food itself was fantastic with the exception of my steak. I ordered the prime strip medium rare. It came out closer to medium well. It wasn't bad, just not what I would have expected from a prime steakhouse. I'd go back and give them another shot.
We chose this for our 8th Anniversary based on location, menu, and the reviews on Open Table. We were very pleased. I am accustomed to fine dining experiences and my husband is usually more comfortable dining in chain restaurants. He's been miserable on occasion when I took him out of his element. But Bistecca impressed him. The atmosphere was perfectly balanced - not pretentious but perfect for a business dinner or romance. More than once he said he enjoyed himself and loved the food. He pronounced that this could be our new place! I chose the peach Bellini martini, she crab soup, black drum fish with crab, and the pecan tuile. Wonderful! He had merlot, crab cakes and beef medallions topped with crab. We loved it all. He and I both agreed that they need to be more careful when picking clean the crab. We both had shell bits in both of our appetizers and entrees. Nick was our server and was friendly, polite, and attentive. I can't wait to enjoy myself at this restaurant again.
Bistecca is our favorite local, neighborhood spot. Chef Salerno has been delivering upscale fare in the Highland Village / Flower Mound / Lewisville area for decades. The appetizers and bar fare are as interesting as the main menu. Many evenings, I'll drop in to the bar for a glass of wine, a couple of awesome appetizers and I'm a happy camper!
Very pleasant dining experience at Bistecca! Escargo and Cesar salad for apps, both wonderful. Then Chateaubriand for 2 for the main course. It was absolutely incredible. Wine and garlic soaked greens, mashed potatoes, mushrooms and perfectly prepared Chateaubriand sliced. Lunch the next day was amazing as well. Service was pronominal, on point with timing, refills, dish collection. Made the experience that much more enjoyable. No desert this time but we will be back. No question.
The food here is fantastic! We started off with Tuna Grotto (seared ahi tuna on fried wontons), shared some She-Crab soup, then split a filet with crab for the entree, and finished the meal with one of their soufflés. We also enjoyed a few drinks including a Grotto coffee (with alcohol in it) to finish up.
I've gone here several times even when I was younger and have been impressed each time.
Service is great too!
Had a reservation we made a few days ahead and were told they were very busy when we arrived and would have to wait 30 minutes for our reserved table unless we wanted to sit outside. We chose outside, which was quiet. There is a nice fountain out there. It was a little warmer/muggier than I would have preferred given we were dressed up. Our service in the first 30 minutes was very slow. Slow to get water, bread, cocktail orders, etc. They were simply too busy at that point. I would be more accepting if we had walked in without a reservation but this is why you make reservations--to avoid this kind of situation.
After it slowed down a little (around the time our table would have been ready inside) there was a noticeable improvement in service. I think the rush started thinning out. Our service the rest of the time was very good as we experienced in the past.
The food was excellent as always. The she crab soup is divine and the soufflé dessert excellent.
We found the food to be very good, although the lamb chops were not very filling unlike the New York Strip. Also the restaurant didn't have any mint jelly which was disappointing. The noise level was extremely loud, beyond awful. That alone would prevent me from coming back. We were really looking forward to a special dinner for our anniversary, but mostly we were disappointed. The service was unfortunately lacking. Our server seemed unsettled, the flow of the service was definitely off. I read wonderful reviews of this restaurant, so I am assuming we just happened to have an unusually poor experience.
Went to Bisteca for Mothers Birthday. Had family in from California and Colorado. The service was excellent and our waiter Toby was friendly and well informed about the menu and any questions we had. The Chef greeted his guests and was very nice. The food was excellent and any desires were met. We've already planned our family a Christmas dinner at the restaurant! Highly recommend Bistecca!!!
It's too dark in there. Our server was very good. The food was horrible. We ordered the Chateubriand for two. The steak came out completely raw. The waitress took it back. She brought it back and it looked exactly the same. So she took it back again and returned for a third time. It was cooked well done on the ends and medium rare in the middle but the taste was completely disgusting. The spinach tasted charred. The steak had zero seasoning and tasted charred. The mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes. We asked to speak to a manager and there wasn't even a manager on duty. What restaurant doesn't have a manager on duty on a Saturday night??? The bartender came to speak to us. She was very sweet. We asked to just take the food away. We were excited to try this place and overall experience wasn't great.
DFW Restaurant Week 2017: Enjoy all courses including "The Spoon" with the Wine Pairing...Morris did a fabulous job on crating these courses.
The Salmon Wellington in the Puffed Pastry was perfect. Flaky, cooked just right with the scallop mouse.. " WOW" ..
Entry Choices Black Drum or Brisket , both were enjoyed by our group of six and we could not decide which was better..
Morris visited our table several times making sure that our dining experience was what we had hoped for..
Great Job Bistecca Team !!
Chef Morris Salerno is a master of delicious, fresh, locally sourced cuisine. His staff is attentive, professional, and fun. My Family enjoyed a spectacular dining experience at Bistecca this weekend. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the DFW Metroplex!
We went to Bistecca for our anniversary. The food was amazing! I had the strip steak that was cooked beautifully. It was so tender and the cream sauce was excellent with it. My husband had the sea bass. We both agreed that was one of the best fishes we had both ever eaten. The decor is a bit dated. However, the food made up for it. The drinks were also really great, particularly the peace martini that I had. The chef also comes out and greets the guests. Overall, we would go back back again because the food was delicious.
This was an excellent restaurant with soft piano music playing and a great atmosphere. The food was excellent and the steak was very tender. The service was excellent and this made for a very perfect anniversary dinner. I liked the fact that we could reserve a table and after I told them it was our anniversary they wrote Happy Anniversary in chocolate on our dessert plate. It really was a great experience
Went for anniversary dinner and had a very enjoyable experience. The food was outstanding, from the roasted sea scallop appetizer, Caesar salads with real anchovies, to my wife's lamb rib chops and my grilled drum with crab and hollandaise, to the delectable flourless chocolate cake. Cocktails were excellent and creative, and we found an affordable Russian River Valley "Michael Pazzon" Pinot Noir, with good fruit and mouthfeel and just a little spice. Our server was new and in training, but her shadow made sure everything went perfectly for our evening. We will have to return because there were so many difficult choices on the menu!
