Bissap and Little Baobab
We bring the savors and succulent flavors of Senegal to your table with traditional Senegalese cuisine and West African-California fusion specialties. Choose from a full range of gourmet African dishes, including avocat creole, tropical salad, yassa, made, and ceebu. Then wash it all down with one of our homemade juices: hibiscus, tamarind, ginger, or our signature cocktails made with our homemade juices: Tatu, Toni, etc.
We offer HAPPY-HOUR Tuesday to Sunday 5:30pm to 7pm and dinner is served from 5:30pm to 10pm. More than just a restaurant, Bissap Baobab Village is a community center, with a laid back, yet distinctly cosmopolitan, worldly vibe which upholds the concept of an African village.

This may be my favorite restaurant in the City. It has never disappointed - food is delicious and "different" from other regional cuisine. drinks are tasty and not watered down, and the service is very friendly. Just writing this makes we want to go back.
Half the table got their food about 30 mins before the other half. Staff made no efforts to make up for the situation or apologize
I love this restaurant. I have been a few times and it never disappoints. The food is wonderful and tasty. The food is on the pricer side (for me), but the happy hour special is a fantastic deal. The waiters are very courteous and the decor is so fun and colorful. This is a very unique restaurant and it was a wonderful meal to have on my birthday! :D
The serving sizes were disappointingly small, and i left hungry. the curry entrees were served in a ramekin sized bowl.
I went for the music! Live jazz, in a reasonable listening acoustic! Food was not essential, but I ate a plate's worth and drank a couple of IPAs. Frankly I wouldn't go just for the food, though it was well-prepared and well served. It's not a cuisine that excites me. But the ambience for the jazz was cheerful, friendly, enthusiastic.
We were late and the staff were so so nice and accommodating. They brought it a little cake with a candle for my GFs birthday. Food was amazing and so were the cocktails. Looking forward to going back.
My 1st time here and celebrated with a bunch of fam and friends for my birthday.Owners were great! Food was awesome, and the music was exactly what I was looking for. If I only lived closer, I would come more often.
What an amazing restaurant and club! I am so glad I got to experience this place. The food is incredible, the service even better. We made a 9 pm reservation which was the last dinner seating. As we finished dinner, they started clearing tables for dancing. It was soooooo fun.
We love Bissap Baobab...have been coming here for more than 20 years it seems. The Senegalese food is different from the typical offerings in San Francisco, while very appealing at the same time. This place makes us feel like we are in Africa...in a positive way. The cocktails are unusual and excellent. The happy hour special is very good value: $25 for cocktail, appetizer and main course. I can recommend the Sedem and ginger margarita cocktails...all of the food that we have have had is delicious, with a particular shout out to the Gambas Baobab appetizer (shrimp in red curry with pita bread) and the seafood coco, Yassa or Dibi with fish or Mafe with chicken. Enjoy!
Excellent cultural vibe. Service is exceptional. Food is delicious
I have been before, 6 and 10 years ago, remembered fondly, and considered it one of my favorites. This time terrible. They didn’t have ceebu jen, even though I went on weekend, and the yassa tasted nothing like the real thing. They told me tilapia was grilled, but it was fried.
Lively atmosphere. Good service. Tasty food. Portions are not big, but rather perfect for a light dinner. The Dj's music and dancing floor are a fun way to end the night.
Bissap & Little Baobab offers delicious food and cocktail in a lovely informal setting. A definite go to if you are in the area for some wholesome African meal.
I enjoyed the food, it was tasty. They only gave us 2 pieces of plantain so we had to order more. The waitress could have paid more attention to us. The after party music was great and the energy was fun. Overall, I will be going here again.
Yummy food. A big pricey for amount of food but good quality.
Birthday celebration. The staff, food, and drink were great!
Overall Good Time. They took a while to seat us even with a reservation and then sat us 30 minutes after arrival in a location that would be turned into a dance floor and told us that we needed to hurry. Other than those hiccups it was an overall great experience.
Had a good time, it wasn’t quite what I was expecting. Food was very tasty, service was ok. The dancing was hilarious.
Awesome place! Wonderful food, did I say WONDERFUL TASTY DELICIOUS food, great music, great stuff, and if you're lucky as we were, bachata dances in the large area going on, and in the separated dinning area you can enjoy relaxed and undisturbed, although hearing the music you can communicate with your mates without shouting!
AWESOME PLACE! Love the Bissap and little Baobab!!!
It takes soul food to power a night of soul music!
The food was absolutely delicious. I had the Mafe with Tofu and it was spectacular! The staff were really wonderful too. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Delicious and friendly with fun drinks. We will be coming back to dine and hear live music.
Had a wonderful time for my birthday with a group of friends - delicious food, nice ambience, great service, and a fantastic show of flamenco dancing and music the night of our dinner!
food has completely changed :( i used to love this place but the food has completely changed, even the portions and serving style has switched to tiny, artistic french like dishes.
we were all starving even after eating and it cost an arm and a leg. the dishes were all dry and not the same at all.
the ambiance was changed as well- obnoxious multicolored disco ball light in the front right where the dining is.
at least the servers were very nice.
The restaurant has an awesome vibe and all of the servers were so polite and friendly. The food is delicious. I think this would be a great place to try some African food for the first time.
Came here off of a recommendation and it exceeded expectations. The food was delicious, the drinks were tasty, and the music kept us dancing in our seats. There seem to be a lot of late night events, so I'll have to return to check them out.
chicken was iffy
I came here with a party of 12 for my birthday over the weekend. I've been to the restaurant on multiple occasions, but only for the events at night. I was surprised that it wasn't too crowded at 5:30pm on a Saturday. All of my guests enjoyed the food and absolutely loved the cocktails, especially the Little Baobab, and the happy hour prices. The portions were a bit small, but the quality of the food overall was impressive. The service from the waitress was authentic and friendly, and she was patient even though we had guests that came late. The server seemed a bit unfriendly, but maybe he was just stressed out with us being a large group and some of our guests didn't remember the names of the entrees that they ordered.
happy hour cocktail, appetizer and main for $20, great deal. Food came quickly and was great. The bathroom needs a reno but otherwise it was quirky and fun
Landed here by happy accident. Looking for ethiopian food. Service excellent and attentive. Menu looked very interesting, but being the chicken I am, I stuck to plantains. Dipping sauce was the best part; one of my (former?) friends kept stealing my sauce.
Very attentive and friendly service and good food and adequate dance floor!
Fantastic Valentines Day dinner and drinks with my sweetheart.
The food was great but the service was very slow, especially with kids!
This restaurant did not take the reservation seriously. We showed up on time to be told they had just had a lot of walk ins and they could not accommodate us for 20-30 minutes. The Maitre D seemed to have no concept of what a reservation meant to us as diners who had made a special journey to this restaurant and arrived on time. He told us that Friday and Saturdays were busy and this meant the night we were there (Saturday) was a bad night to make a reservation??? We waited about 45 minutes at the bar and after checking in with him a few times it was clear he really could not reliably tell us when we could eat as it kept being "about 20 minutes". So we left to find another restaurant. We were disappointed as we had specially bought an out of town visitor to try it. The food etc may be good (we'll never know) but I recommend you definitely do not bother with an Opentable reservation as it means nothing at this place.
Don't bother on Flamenco night.
I made a reservation for 7:15. Flamenco performance starts at 7:30. I received a confirmation phone call, day of.
Arrived at 7:15 and the host apologized and said it was at 45 minute wait, standing only, and they'd put us in the far back separate room from the dancing. He pointed at another group he said also made also 7:15 reservation and there were no tables for them either. They were dressed up very fancy, must have been a special night for them.
We left. While we were sitting down at another restaurant, we saw the other group walk by. Guess they never got a table either.
Food, atmosphere, service were top notch. Great location😁, near bart. Thoroughly enjoyed myself.
I love Bissap Baobab...one of my favorites in SF. I have been coming here for almost 25 years, from one location to the next, and the food just keeps getting better. It is my favorite restaurant to take out of town guests for something a bit different; they have all loved it. I have been to Senegal...and when I am at Bissap, I almost feel like I am in Senegal again. I like the atmosphere, the music, the service, the food, and especially the unusual and delicious cocktails. My favorite food items are the red curry shrimp appetizer, yassa or dibi fish and coconut curry with shrimp. My favorite cocktails are Sedem, Manifique, and Tooni (ginger margarita). The happy hour special menu is a great deal: cocktail, appetizer and entree for $20. The SF place turns into a dance club at 10 on Wed, Fri and Sat nights.
The food was wonderful and interesting, the ambiance is great... It is convivial. Pretty much everything you want for casual dinner.
Special thanks to the manager and staff there, who were extremely helpful/accommodating when i left my bag there.... Honest and friendly.
Always an excellent time! Went for a birthday celebration!
Very friendly, African Music...a great place to go dancing!
