Bissap and Little Baobab
We bring the savors and succulent flavors of Senegal to your table with traditional Senegalese cuisine and West African-California fusion specialties. Choose from a full range of gourmet African dishes, including avocat creole, tropical salad, yassa, made, and ceebu. Then wash it all down with one of our homemade juices: hibiscus, tamarind, ginger, or our signature cocktails made with our homemade juices: Tatu, Toni, etc.
We offer HAPPY-HOUR Tuesday to Sunday 5:30pm to 7pm and dinner is served from 5:30pm to 10pm. More than just a restaurant, Bissap Baobab Village is a community center, with a laid back, yet distinctly cosmopolitan, worldly vibe which upholds the concept of an African village.

What a wonderful staff! The food was outstanding. I can’t wait to go back. Never felt rushed, enjoyed every bite!
I love the food here and service was wonderful.
We had a very satisfying meal at this funky little place that serves up tasty Senegalese cuisine. Low key and decorated in colorful Western African colors, the menu has a diverse selection of appetizers and entrees featuring richly spiced (but not spicy) flavors, inc. curry, coconut, plantains, peanuts, rice, couscous with meat (chicken, lamb, prawns, fish) and veggie options. Friendly and attentive service. A real neighborhood gem.
They were closed even though website said they were open. Plus, we called ahead, no one answered and couldn’t leave message due to full mailbox. Awful!
Just about all of the food was scrumptious. The pastelles were an excellent starter, and we ended up ordering extra seafood coco and dibi because both dishes were so tasty. The noise level was moderate (at 6 pm on a Thursday) and the setting was great for a group get together.
One point to be aware of-Bissap Baobab does not have a liquor license, so no alcoholic drinks are available here (as of 5/23/19). We were surprised by this, since several cocktails are listed on their menu (both online and in the restaurant), and the old Bissap (located next door) had served alcoholic drinks.
Overall a fun, fairly quiet spot with very tasty food and friendly service.
Very nice restaurant with good prices. Excellent service
This was a pop up event with a special chef who is not usually there so I can't speak for the usual menu. We did feel "cheated" because we paid a reservation fee and were shoved to the place next door (the one that will remain open) in a small dark corner, service was chaotic ( I never got the drink I ordered) and the portions were ridiculously small for the price. The little we ate was good but the whole experience was a fail !
One of my favorite places in the city! Consistently good, great atmosphere. Great food and drinks. I don't know any other Senegalese places in the city so I'm always excited to get their food!
Colorful restaurant in "the Mish". Funky neighborhood with a mix of restaurants, markets, store-front revival churches and boarded-up shops.
The food was good; same meats for the different orders; they seem to be differentiated by the accompanying sauce.
Wait staff was very helpful.
My colleagues and I went to Bissap and Little Baobab to celebrate National Social Work Month and we had such a great time. The food was delicious and the happy hour specials were some of the best in the city. We are all definitely looking forward to going back before they close.
Delicious food but it took over 30 minutes to even order and then 1.5 hours before we even got our food...
They never brought water even though we asked multiple times and we had to find our own menus scattered around the restaurant.
Would not recommend
Love this spot they go far and beyond to ensure a great experience from me my favorite restaurant and dance spot big ups from Africa y’all
It was great size for apps. I think entree’s were bit smaller.
Lovely food and great service! Good. Good value happy hour
Really nice restaurant! I absolutely loved the experience. The food is delicious and the music is great!! I recommend :)
Amazing food and service! We have been here several times, and we are never disappointed. We brought 2 friends who had never been here before, and they asked about the different sauces. Our server brought us samples of all 4 different sauces, explaining each one in detail. It just doesn't get any better!
This may be my favorite restaurant in the City. It has never disappointed - food is delicious and "different" from other regional cuisine. drinks are tasty and not watered down, and the service is very friendly. Just writing this makes we want to go back.
Half the table got their food about 30 mins before the other half. Staff made no efforts to make up for the situation or apologize
I love this restaurant. I have been a few times and it never disappoints. The food is wonderful and tasty. The food is on the pricer side (for me), but the happy hour special is a fantastic deal. The waiters are very courteous and the decor is so fun and colorful. This is a very unique restaurant and it was a wonderful meal to have on my birthday! :D
The serving sizes were disappointingly small, and i left hungry. the curry entrees were served in a ramekin sized bowl.
I went for the music! Live jazz, in a reasonable listening acoustic! Food was not essential, but I ate a plate's worth and drank a couple of IPAs. Frankly I wouldn't go just for the food, though it was well-prepared and well served. It's not a cuisine that excites me. But the ambience for the jazz was cheerful, friendly, enthusiastic.
We were late and the staff were so so nice and accommodating. They brought it a little cake with a candle for my GFs birthday. Food was amazing and so were the cocktails. Looking forward to going back.
My 1st time here and celebrated with a bunch of fam and friends for my birthday.Owners were great! Food was awesome, and the music was exactly what I was looking for. If I only lived closer, I would come more often.
What an amazing restaurant and club! I am so glad I got to experience this place. The food is incredible, the service even better. We made a 9 pm reservation which was the last dinner seating. As we finished dinner, they started clearing tables for dancing. It was soooooo fun.
We love Bissap Baobab...have been coming here for more than 20 years it seems. The Senegalese food is different from the typical offerings in San Francisco, while very appealing at the same time. This place makes us feel like we are in Africa...in a positive way. The cocktails are unusual and excellent. The happy hour special is very good value: $25 for cocktail, appetizer and main course. I can recommend the Sedem and ginger margarita cocktails...all of the food that we have have had is delicious, with a particular shout out to the Gambas Baobab appetizer (shrimp in red curry with pita bread) and the seafood coco, Yassa or Dibi with fish or Mafe with chicken. Enjoy!
Excellent cultural vibe. Service is exceptional. Food is delicious
I have been before, 6 and 10 years ago, remembered fondly, and considered it one of my favorites. This time terrible. They didn’t have ceebu jen, even though I went on weekend, and the yassa tasted nothing like the real thing. They told me tilapia was grilled, but it was fried.
Lively atmosphere. Good service. Tasty food. Portions are not big, but rather perfect for a light dinner. The Dj's music and dancing floor are a fun way to end the night.
Bissap & Little Baobab offers delicious food and cocktail in a lovely informal setting. A definite go to if you are in the area for some wholesome African meal.
I enjoyed the food, it was tasty. They only gave us 2 pieces of plantain so we had to order more. The waitress could have paid more attention to us. The after party music was great and the energy was fun. Overall, I will be going here again.
Yummy food. A big pricey for amount of food but good quality.
Birthday celebration. The staff, food, and drink were great!
Overall Good Time. They took a while to seat us even with a reservation and then sat us 30 minutes after arrival in a location that would be turned into a dance floor and told us that we needed to hurry. Other than those hiccups it was an overall great experience.
Had a good time, it wasn’t quite what I was expecting. Food was very tasty, service was ok. The dancing was hilarious.
Awesome place! Wonderful food, did I say WONDERFUL TASTY DELICIOUS food, great music, great stuff, and if you're lucky as we were, bachata dances in the large area going on, and in the separated dinning area you can enjoy relaxed and undisturbed, although hearing the music you can communicate with your mates without shouting!
AWESOME PLACE! Love the Bissap and little Baobab!!!
It takes soul food to power a night of soul music!
The food was absolutely delicious. I had the Mafe with Tofu and it was spectacular! The staff were really wonderful too. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Delicious and friendly with fun drinks. We will be coming back to dine and hear live music.
Had a wonderful time for my birthday with a group of friends - delicious food, nice ambience, great service, and a fantastic show of flamenco dancing and music the night of our dinner!
food has completely changed :( i used to love this place but the food has completely changed, even the portions and serving style has switched to tiny, artistic french like dishes.
we were all starving even after eating and it cost an arm and a leg. the dishes were all dry and not the same at all.
the ambiance was changed as well- obnoxious multicolored disco ball light in the front right where the dining is.
at least the servers were very nice.
