Bishop's Ratings and Reviews
Bishop's brings what Vancouver is missing with a quality dining experience, service. From the time we walked in the door and were greated to the time we left in the cab they arranged for us every single staff member was flawless with their service.
Our drinks and meals were prepared to perfection and we left 100% satisfied.
My only disappoint may have been with Mr. Bishop's presence. He was very visible on the floor but his was only hosting tables of dinners who were closer to his own age. Towards the end of the night he did pop around the corner and thank us for coming in, but it felt like a requirement after watching him interact with the other tables. The fact that I even had the ability to notice this is a testament to how wonderful his team is.
The staff and owner were really nice and provided amazing service.
The only critique we had was that my friends cod and clams dish was a little disappointing as the fish was too salty and the clams were not properly cleaned so my friend was constantly spitting out sand. We had order pommes frites as well and was to come with aioli but instead came with ketchup until we questioned the server and they quickly rectified that.
It was my friends bday and they did something special which was very nice of them.
The food was as I expected - excellent, but the thing that really stands out about Bishops is the service. It is so welcoming and friendly that you feel valued as customer. If you are looking for elegant unrushed dining where they make you feel like everybody knows your name make your reservation Bishops.
40 years ago we were on our honeymoon in Greece. The staff were great. My wife had the oyster appetizer and one of them was "off". We are not the type of people who complain but I said to my wife we should tell them, they'd rather like to know. With no question our server came back with a nice fresh big one on ice. The halibut was great. Following our dessert, they came out with a dish of frozen grapes dipped in champagne with "Happy Anniversary" scribed on the plate. Mr Bishop came and wished us Happy anniversary discreetly. Very special. Staff attentive but not "over the top" which we appreciate.
A Canadian friend who had eaten there recently recommended Bishops, so we made a reservation in advance of our trip. When we arrived it had just been named the best restaurant in Vancouver, clearly for good reason. My duck was cooked just right, all of the entrees were flavorful and distinctive. The atmosphere was intimate and the service excellent.
This was our second visit to the restaurant in four years and was everything we expected. We were personally welcomed by the owner, John Bishop. Mr. Bishop also checked to see how we were enjoying the prix fixe menu, every course of which was excellent. My husband proclaimed his steak the best he'd ever had. Since halibut was in season, I'd had it multiple times during our week-long trip to British Columbia and found it to be the best prepared and tastiest at Bishop's. We can't wait to return when we next visit Vancouver.
A positive dining experience. Hostess and staff very welcoming. Good atmosphere, good linens and silverware. Timely service. Only dining choice is set price $65 3 course menu, but many choices for each course. The negatives that prevent 5 stars - two of daily specials were scallops as an appetizer and fresh halibut as a main course, both of which we selected. We were not told there would be a supplementary charge for each, although the menu does say there "may" be an extra charge for special items. There are also a number of other items on the menu subject to a supplementary charge. It would be much better to charge $75 per person and not have any extras. The other thing we don't like is no specific waiter for our table. There must have been 5 different people serving us. Finally the food, while good was not outstanding and the one chocolate dessert was a big disappointment. Expect to spend $250 for 2 with wine, coffee and gratuity.
The room is very nice and we were good till the main courses came, the halibut portion was large but it was in an unimpressive butter sauce, it had a slight fishy smell and came in a unattractive serving bin.
The rack of lamb which was ordered medium rare came which was way too rare, when they redid it, it was medium well and it was tough. So than they brought me duck it was okay at best, but couldn't finish it as it was too rare. The wine list was good and I chose the Amarone.
While the food, service were very good we were verbally attacked by 2 other diners. We were very shocked as they came over to our table and decided to abuse us out of the blue. We are extremely disappointed with the blase attitude of the serving staff who did not take us seriously. The people just decided to have fun at our expense and the general attitude of Bishops was "O they often do this. They come here regularly" we were tourists in Vancouver and were terribly disappointed over this. It spoiled our special night out. Other than this we could not fault your restaurant. Please take cognisance of people's behaviour in your restaurant. We should be all treated on an equal level.
Didn't disappoint. Wonderful spot for a special occasion. Very intimate atmosphere and attentive staff! Was a lovely treat to meet Mr Bishop who is genuinely interested in knowing that you are enjoying your experience! Food was terrific...lamb great and I loved the tomato salad!! Thanks for helping us celebrate our anniversary!!
