food was very ordinary
the wild boar terrain was tasteless and dry
we paid extra for shaved truffle but it was dry and had no taste at all
my main was cold and poorly cooked
We tend to go to Bishop’s for special occasions- this time my hubby’s 60th birthday and they never disappoint. From when you enter the front door to when you leave the service is amazing and food is wonderful
We all enjoyed a delicious meal - Fanny Bay and Kushi oysters to start. Our appetizers were beautiful, local razor clams and scallops. Fresh halibut and tender sous-vide chicken and even a side of pommes frites. All of the sauces and sides tasted perfectly balanced. Thank you for the lovely time!
Special occasion or not, it is worth it. Always made to feel comfortable, it’s like the staff can read your mind. The food is amazing. Thanks John and everyone at Bishops.
I visited alone but I was very impressed at their hospitality for one person. The restaurant serviced a oyster plate for me without any charges. All staff were very friendly with polite. Incredible restaurant in Vancouver. I would visit there again with my wife next time.
Another amazing dinner.
Great west coast menu with lots of daily specials.
Bishops is a must for any occasion.
We will be back soon!
Absolutely amazing as usual fantastico. Congratulations
My husband and I were recently at Bishop’s, the food was amazing. Chef prepared a luscious seafood tasting menu for us with a variety of tastes and textures. We especially enjoyed the crab salad, tuna tartare and clam chowder. So fresh and flavourful, we’re already planning a return visit to experience other delights such as Canard a la Presse or whole roasted chicken. Service was friendly and discreet.
We were really looking forward to this meal. Our last experience at Bishop's ten years ago was wonderful and we all held good memories of the food and ambiance. We arrived on time to a strange odour at the front of the restaurant that we all remarked upon. I ordered the soup as an appetizer and the halibut as a main course. I was shocked to discover the soup (over salted) that I had just managed to eat was also the base of the halibut dish. The other mains were fine - with the Chicken being declared delicious. We don't usually order dessert but decided to share two desserts between the four of us. It took so long for the kitchen to bring dessert that the waitress brought us a few biscuits as an apology. I'm not sure why this took so long as both desserts were cold - in fact the apple tart had clearly just been removed from a very cold chiller. So - not a happy ending to our meal - but the worst was yet to come. Within fifteen minutes of arriving home one of our party was violently ill.
Mr. Bishop is so lovely. I’m very glad I got the chance to meet him.
The best of Vancouver. Dress nicely, make a res and bring your lady.
We broke pattern and enjoyed the beef after our scallop and oyster starters this time, and we chose well.
John is truly a fine restauranteur.
Great service as always.
Ambiance sympa avec un pianiste.
La nourriture était excellente et les serveurs très sympathiques et efficaces. Les assiettes étaient belles.
Le seul point négatif est qu’il y a une odeur de cuisine très fort dans tout le restaurant.
Consistently excellent food and service. Menu items cover local items very well. I would have liked the desert menu to include some more local fruit based items such as blueberry icecream.
We had not been to Bishops in several years but remembered the quiet atmosphere and the excellent food. It is still quiet and romantic. Conversation is easy and the service is warm and attentive.
Unfortunately the quality of the food has gone down considerably since our last visit. Our family loves seafood. The seafood salad that sounds so yummy was not good. Mains were not high quality There was a mix up in our dessert order. It took a while for the actual order to come. (Dessert was free as a result of the mistake) and the poached pear was served cold so not sure what the delay was. They came with an after dinner tray of treats. My last bite was the chocolate cookie which tasted like a poor quality commercial biscuit. That was the taste I left with. Sorry to say we will not be returning soon.
Excellent service, imaginative cuisine and an overall wonderful culinary experience!
The food, service, and ambience at Bishop's never fails. Many chefs have trained here, each putting their special touch on the menu. No matter who is in the kitchen, under the guidance of owner and chef mentor John Bishop, diners are assured an experience to remember. Service is understated perfection. Under the leadership of front of house wine expert, Abel Jacinto, staff are friendly, efficient, and very capable. The wine cellar is deep and wide, so there is always a great recommendation for any dish. Although Bishop's is the perfect special-occasion choice, I'd recommend it for any time of year!
Had a wonderful time. They have few more daily fresh offerings than on the standard menu. Every dish was done extremely well. Service was impeccable. I think their price is very reasonable for the quality. Street parking was easily available even on a Saturday night.
Excellent restaurant for a special occasion. Food is always amazing. Loved the kusshi oysters.
Second visit and will return.
It has been too long since we’ve been to this fabulous restaurant. Quiet, considerate service, immaculate surroundings and fantastic food. The apple tart desert, presented for the first time the evening we went was out of this world, interesting and unusual, was perfect for a fall evening.
Great service and awesome food. We will be back as this place is gem.
As usual the staff are very attentive and provide exceptional service.
Everyone at Bishop’s made my birthday celebration special!
Beyond amazing. This is a gem of a restaurant. Innovative dishes with a classic feel and local ingredients. Impeccable service and cozy atmosphere.
Classy and intimate. A fine dining experience that one expects from a master chef and restaraunteur like John Bishop. So unlike many of the corporate chain restaurants that have become the norm....even at the high end.
Kudos to Mr. Bishop! Always a positive experience when dining at Bishops. Try to dine each time I am in Vancouver.
Bishop’s has been and will always be the most reliably innovative yet steadfast culinary Vancouver experience. The wine list is superb, the subtle input from the very professional wait staff, the right-off-the-truck freshness of the indigenous fare all combine to transport the diner to a gustatory level of pleasure that is impossible to replicate in this city, or, dare I say, in any other Canadian location.
This is the restaurant emerging chefs and restaurateurs aspire to.
Bishop’s is a world class gem devoted to their guests total experience.
Had a guest from out of town and wanted them to have a unique west coast experience. From the moment we walked in till the moment we left we were pampered by amazing staff as well as John Bishop himself who took the time to talk to us. He also gave us a few more ideas on where to take our guest to highlight Vancouver. The food and drinks were phenomenal. I will highly recommend in the future as well as return for special occasions.
Always amazing service! Chef was incredible and accommodated to our preferences and created something new and fabulous on the fly! Always looked after when visiting bishops!
It is a very special treat for myself and my friends to eat to dine here so we always enjoy it. we can not dine here more than once a year.
Probably the best fine dining in the city. Portions are small, but impeccable. My husband orders 2 appys and 2 mains to be full. I have a normal appetite and find the portions perfect. Incredible wine list. The resaurant seems like it would be snooty, but is so friendly. It isn't cheap. But it is worth every penny.
Our 33rd wedding anniversary dinner
We are always delighted by the whole experience of eating at Bishops-such a culinary treat!
Always a treat. Wonderful to be back. Love the artwork.
We love Bishops. It is quintessential fine dining. Unpretentious, "adult" waitstaff who know their offerings and seem genuinely interesting in your dining pleasure.
THE Godfather of fine dining in Vancouver is still in the kitchen and still on the floor, so why would you go anywhere else to celebrate a special occasion (like our 8 years together) or just have a fantastic meal.
Sublime. The cold Beet root soup was a questionable menu item, but everything else over came that most handily.
The occasion was to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We have been several times over the years and we have never ever been disappointed. This one was no exception. The food, service and ambiance were exceptional and the entire staff made this dining experience a highlight of our anniversary. To John and his staff, thank you for attention to quality and detail with the right mix of attentiveness and service from your serving staff. We closed the place down. Thank you so much and see you again.
Wine and appetizer were excellent. Dessert was good. Entree disappointing for the price. Duck was dry and salty. Seafood risotto had little seafood. Risotto should have been creamy and delicately seasoned. It was neither.
