I've heard a lot of great things about this place, and finally went for brunch today. It was OK. Two of 4 entrees were cold, waited awhile to get our ticket at end of meal. It just wasn't as awesome as i expected. We probably will go back and try again for dinner next week though.
Food was good. Service was only fair. I literally would have to talk to the server's back as she walked away. She'd ask "How is everything," then immediately leave before you could even speak a word.
The server was terrible except he was right that the sprouts aren’t good. The ribs were flavorless and the fries average. Chicken was the only redeeming item.
The hostess completely ignored the requests I put in my reservation. When I asked her about my server request, she just stared at me and shrugged her shoulders and said, "I don't know, I'm new" and then said "inside or out". I also had a special payment handling request, but when I asked her to have someone come speak to me about it (prior to my guests arriving), she just shrugged again and said "I don't know anything about that." The server was kind, but might have been new, as he was extremely slow to come check on us and respond. He also had a bit of a blank stare when we asked questions. He did not share the specials with us. The only way we knew about them as I saw a small sign on the patio. I believe there needs to be some additional training of hostess and serving staff. The food was adequate.
Bird Cafe has been a favorite of mine for the last few years. While everything was overall tasty last night, I agree with other reviewers about lack of flavor. The tartare was bland and needed salt, the Belgian mussels felt watered down. Having enjoyed those items thoroughly in the past, it was a little
disappointing. But the cocktails were great, service was good, and Bird is still a great place for conversation.
Good dinner as always❣️I had steak and stout pot pie and my husband had pork chops. Pecan pie was delicious❣️
Enjoyed my first visit to Bird Café. The food was fresh and the menu contained many items that were unique. Especially enjoyed the Pot Pies, Cobb Salad, and cheese/meat board. But many other items were good as well.
Beautiful setting for a special occasion or place to enjoy conversation with friends. James was a great server - was attentive but also provided plenty of uninterrupted time and never made us feel rushed. We ordered several shareable items - the smoked pimento cheese dip and Rosewood beef cheeks were outstanding. However, the roasted brussel sprouts and meat/cheese tray were disappointing. The sprouts were more sautéed and not seasoned very well - would prefer to have some char on them as is often done at other restaurants. Meat/cheese plate was also just okay - expected better quality for $18. Overall a good experience - the historic building, location downtown, and outdoor patio overlooking Sundance Square is amazing. Too bad it was windy/cold but would love to take advantage of fire pit and upstairs lounge area when weather permits. Expect to pay more for food but it’s really about the ambiance.
It's a great place to eat especially if you want a great ambiance with a view towards Sundance Square. Their menu is not very extensive but it is certainly very extraordinary and no matter what you order it is delicious, anytime of day. On our list of top favorites.
The unique setting and menu make ‘The Bird’ one of our favorite places to dine in Sundance Sqaure.
Great values for the "small plates" that make it possible to sample a few different items. The mussels come with a generous helping of bread to sop up the broth, and the beef and rabbit pot pies are superb. Good vegetable options in the small plates as well. Interesting, not-too-sweet cocktails. Our waiter on or last two visits was terrific, and made sure we were able to finish in time for a show at Bass Hall.
We sat on the patio overlooking Sundance Square. A beautiful place to be on such a pleasant evening. We enjoyed good food and wine. A terrific place to eat before venturing forth to Bass Hall.
A bit expensive but very good overall. Great ambiance and you cant beat the location. Wish the prices weren't so high
This is our go to out of town visitor place and our let's go have a nice meal place. The food is great. The service is great. The best thing is they never rush you. It is a great place for friends, food and good times.
I suck and do t remember our server’s name but she had a “you’re so cool” tattoo on her forearm, and she was a doll! Such good conversation, the food was great and the patio was perfect for brunch!
We go to the Bird Cafe prior to events at the Bass Hall. We make reservations as often the Cafe is busy. The food and service are great. We love to have the soup of the day along with splitting a grilled cheese sandwich.
Saturday night dinner on the patio, weather being superb. Mussels were good, but could have had more complexity in the broth. Steak tartare and brussels sprouts were wonderful. Service and filling of water and tea glasses uneven, pricey wine per glass (but where is it not?)
Love the ambiance and delicious food at Bird Cafe. Can’t beat it for date night.
This is our go-to place when in downtown Ft. Worth!
Service was very slow, despite the fact that we told the waiter we were attending a 7:30 p.m. performance at Bass Hall. We were seated at 6:10, but our food was not served until almost 7:00. My cup of soup was served simultaneously with my entree, and it was warm, not hot. As a result, we had to rush our meals. Very disappointing.
I once ate lunch at Bird, sitting outside, and I recall that as very pleasant, perhaps because we were in no hurry. I would recommend the restaurant for the charm of its historic structure and its convenient location. But I would not choose to eat there again before a performance.
The service and food is always excellent at The Bird.
My husband and I love Bird Cafe for weekend brunch, whether it's just the two of us, or a bigger group of friends or family. The food is always delicious, and we love the environment. Some days service can be a bit slow. This past Saturday, we had slow service and one friend never got the drink she ordered. Other than that, we had a great time!
Good service. We were underwhelmed by the food. We shared an order of mussels, and had bone marrow and beef cheeks. All good but at this price point expected more and routinely get much better food at several other restaurants.
Lovely meal and even better service! Recommend sitting outside on the plaza side—outdoor music makes it a bit loud, but nothing my parents couldn’t handle. Take a glass of wine upstairs to the rooftop patio for an after dinner drink and fun view!
Brunch - amazing. Had a fabulous time. Great food & terrific service. Will definitely be back.
Previously only had a cocktail at bird cafe- went for a girl date this weekend and was disappointed by the lackluster food and the disregard for presentation. The spinach salad was nice and what I was expecting but it went downhill from there- the deviled eggs were very bland and sloppily presented- if they were say $7-8 that wouldn’t have been as bad but they cost $14. The Brussels sprouts were essentially steamed without seasoning and pieces of very salty smoky pork were thrown in- the flavors were distinct and did not really elevate the dish. Also overpriced for the lackluster presentation and taste. Tried fried chicken skin- of course fried food is delectable but even the sauce on the dish became flat and monotonous. If the prices had been half what they are I would have been less disappointed. We got cafeteria quality for bistro prices. I suppose the rent/overhead is high? Maybe we went at an off time? I think there is a lot of potential for improvement.
Great pre-ballet brunch! Loved the breads basket, the benedicts, and the beverages.
Brought family members for a birthday celebration. The food was mediocre at best. The entrees were OK. For dessert, the bread pudding wasn't fit to eat and the blueberry cobbler just so-so. The menu isn't anything to get excited about but with fairly limited choices you'd think they would excel at what comes out of the kitchen. It is a wonderful location but the noise level was high thanks to a rowdy crowd near the bar. The restrooms are upstairs and it is a steep, narrow stairwell with probably 20 steps. It wasn't a problem for me but any older persons might have a struggle. I have been here before a couple of times but this trip will be my last.
Sat outside on a beautiful spring evening, before ballet at the Bass. Great food, excellent service...hope to become “regulars”!!!
I really like this restaurant and have been several times. It's one of my favorites since it's on the square, easy valet parking and isn't a chain that we have in Dallas. However, I was a little disappointed with the service. We came late at 12:30 and it was decently quiet and by 1, most had cleared out. It took over 15 minutes to get dessert and then when we asked to have our valet parking validated, she told us to walk up to the hostess stand to do it. I was a little surprised as I had dined here for a business lunch a week before and our server was fantastic and offered to validate our parking without us even asking. But the food was good and I would return.
Sundance Square jewel! Nice atmosphere, creative cuisine, and always great service.
Never too loud, which makes it the BEST place to have a business lunch!
I was told by the hostess that my wait was going to be 20 minutes. 45 minutes passed and I was not seated yet. Then I saw people going in front of me and I asked why? She told me that they had a reservation. It was strange to me that she would not move or do
anything to accommodate us specially having a long wait. At that point I made a reservation at sat me immediately even though there were open tables since 40 minutes before. Horrible horrible experience
The food was ok. The service not so good. I’m not coming back.
Homer was an excellent server and addressed my multiple food allergies with grace and respect. The food was delicious and the ambiance was fantastic.
Great service, atmosphere and service. We were a large group for Sunday brunch and with add the incredible Bird Mimosa to the experience, the bill was extremely reasonable.
Had brunch. The badass bacon waffles were great-need to have syrup with them to complete the meal. The crawfish Benedict lacked flavor and was bland. It was to be creole-inspired, but fell significantly short. I would pass on that dish and try something else. Bloody Mary was amazing. Waitstaff was kind and very good.
We love this place! We come out here every few months and always have good service and their food is amazing! The mimosas are very good! Absolutely would recommend trying it if you haven’t already, it is worth the 45 minute drive from Carrollton!
Beautiful building in a great location. Food is high quality though lacked flavor. Staff was pleasant & helpful. Feel like my next visit will be a bottle of wine & enjoying the upstairs patio would be ideal.
Service was AMAZING! Great for appetizers or a full meal. We had the hummus to start and all had the seafood chowder which was very good. This place is cute and unique, right on the square. Also has a cute upstairs patio for when the weather is nice!
Absolutely awful Valentine’s Day dinner. Ran out of the duck that we wanted. And the dessert we wanted! The meat was terrible. Me and my girlfriend were very unhappy with the experience. Over $200 bill that I wouldn’t have paid $40 for. Will never be dining again, and will tell all my friends never to go to bird cafe either. Terrible experience. I will be writing very bad yelp review
