Always an incredible experience at Bird Cafe! This was our first visit since the chef change and was very happy to find the quality was still right up there. Noise level rated as moderate simply due to sitting outside (but definitely worth it).
The Bird Cafe is in the historic (circa 889) Victorian Land Title Block building on the opposite corner from Bass Hall with windows facing E 4th Street and a very large patio facing Sundance Square. Dining is offered on the patio, but the atmosphere is VERY casual, so we opted to eat in the rustic upstairs dining room.
Our server was friendly and very knowledgeable on the menu choices. We started with The Hungry Farmer Board, a Charcuterie consisting of salami, prosciutto, and cheese loaf with brie, Havarti, and jalapeno white cheddar along with a sprinkling of fresh fruit. To be honest, it was the highlight of the meal with the salami and brie being stand outs. Paired with a good Cab, I could have munched on that the entire evening.
For our entrees my wife ordered the Barramundi (Asian Sea Bass) Filet served with perfectly prepared fresh spinach, a rich consume, and a lacy and delicate hazelnut tuile. I had the “surf the good news being you and a partner can split an appetizer, and perhaps order a salad and not end up going home with tomorrow’s lunch in a takeout box. We had a flourless chocolate cake for desert which was dense, moist and thoroughly enjoyable.
Also, upstairs is a patio lounge and fire pit for cocktails and conversation overlooking Sundance Square. It was a beautiful evening, so we retired there after dinner and enjoyed the view and the dancing flames.
A very nice evening. The Bird is a good choice for dinner anytime, but would make a superb pre/post Bass Hall retreat.
Again, an excellent meal. Great server recommended the daily special - shrimp and steak with sides of mashed potatoes and asparagus. All well prepared. We'll be back again.
Good southern cooking type food with good selection. Would like more choices for dessert. Excellent service.
The food and cocktails were great but it took several minutes for anyone to come over after we were seated. After that it was great!
For years my daughter and I had Daddy/Daugjtet
I agree with yelps 3.5 rating. The restaurant has slipped in the last few years. The steaks were not good.
The food and service at Bird Cafe was fabulous. My first time there, impressed.
Went to Bird Cafe for brunch on TCU parent’s weekend! I had the Mother and Child reunion. The fried chicken breast was so flavorful and insanely tender! And, the eggs were poached perfectly so that they spilled out to merge with the jalapeño gravy which had just the right amount of heat (mild). And finally...yes I have to carry on a little more!...the brunch potatoes were the best that I have ever had! So crispy on the outside and meaty and tender on the inside! I live in Dallas, but a 40 minute drive is not that far to keep be from returning often!! 🙌🏻
Staff was excellent we enjoyed our dinner
As always a great stop before bass hall
Great place for brunch before the matinee at Bass Hall. Mimosas were especially good and a good value. Loved their chicken and waffles. But if you order this, we award that the dish normally comes with a leg and thigh. If you prefer a breast, as I did, just ask your waiter and they'll substitute.
My husband and I have been here many times so this is with a heavy heart that I write a bad review. We were seated pretty much immediately. However, it just went downhill from there. We waited about 3-4 minutes before our waitress Liz even took our drink order. It then took another 10 minutes to get our drinks, in the meantime Liz passed our table several times without even saying anything to us. Once we did get our drinks it was another 10-12 minute to order our food. We told her we had a show at Bass Hall at 7:30. From that point it took 45-50 minutes to get our food. We inquired several times and Liz repeatedly told us it would out any minute. The first thing we ordered was a salad. Seriously it takes 45+ minutes to prepare a salad? The food has also gone downhill, not near as good as it used to be. We barely made the show. We’ve never had a problem on “sho night” before.
Bird Cafe is always a delight! Great location, fantastic service and excellent food.
Coming in from California to visit our son at TCU, Bird Cafe never disappoints! We have only been to Bird Cafe for breakfast- wonderful location, atmosphere and the selections are excellent!
Everything was wonderful but the vegetables that came with my amazing roasted chicken were cold. Cold like they had been sitting out for a LONG time cold. Not just room temp or just warm but cold. Kinda disappointing since the roasted chicken was so HOT and YUMMY!
Great restaurant in the Square. Excellent service and very attentive. Food was perfect!
Went for a friend’s bday. The service and food were excellent. They were super accommodating and awesome. Will definitely go back for brunch!
Cocktails were absolutely superb and our waiter Jakob was great. Our dishes were fine, nothing to write home about, but average at Bird Cafe is still better than many restaurants so we enjoyed our dinner as usual and will indeed be back!
Nice wine list. Excellent Arctic Char. Great selection of really good food. Nice choice for a business dinner. Something delicious for every palate.
Great place - fun food!!
We had some really great cocktails and the burgers were to die for!
Homer is badass. Such a funny and charming man. Will definitely be back as soon as possible!
Excellent well prepared food and service.
Brian Olenjack is back after a long absence and is now in charge of Bird Cafe, and that's very good news for local diners. We so missed his special touch after Olenjack's in Arlington closed a couple of years back, and we welcome both him and some of his signature dishes. Was great to see (and taste) the shrimp with grits. Now, what about the chicken fried steak?
Our server was great, but the food was SLOW. Between appetizer and main course was easily 45 minutes. No idea if this is the norm, but I would suggest only visiting if you have time.
This occasion was 2 couples meeting to catch up. The portions are large enough for 2 women to split a salad , split an entree. We split the shrimp and grits - it was great .
Love the family / sharing atmosphere of the restaurant and enjoy their food. Good variety in the menu with enough uniqueness to make it stand out. Beet salad an absolute favorite as well as the steak and frittes. Also great that they are on Sundance Square. Beautiful setting.
Service was wonderful, Atmosphere was beautiful and FOOD and Mimosas were A M A Z I N G!
It was our first visit to Bird Cafe. We will be back. The restaurant space is very appealing. The service was excellent. Everyone works as a team and gets the job done. The menu isn’t extensive, but it’s comfort food with a flair. My fish was prepared just right and my husband liked his fish and chips. The apple dessert cake was exceptional.
I make reservations by open table app by 3:90 this app don’t let you know the restaurant was kind of close to cook between those hours. And the front desk did not let me know that when I arrived. Also the restaurant should have called to let me know like another restaurants. So we had to wIt also to service get to us. Was dissatisfy with these issues. Other than that was ok since we already were there. Abd we waited.
Outstanding food and service. Love this place1
Great food! Good service!
Service was amazing, waiter made great recommendations for drinks and food. I’ve eaten here many times, this was one of the most enjoyable evenings. A group of 5 and everyone loved the food.
The service was excellent, the food was perfectly prepared, and the environment was delightful!
Our server, Sara was fantastic: attentive & courteous. Our duck entrees were delicious! This is our 2nd time dining at your restaurant, and we plan to return!
Love this place. Ambience and amazing food locally sourced. Delicious!
Very good food. My wife and i had the bird burger. It was very very good. The service started out slow but it was great in the end.
A bit over priced, but the food and service was exceptional. And, right across the street from Bass Hall!
Cute restaurant with a good menu with some creative and different takes on classic brunch items.
