Our experience was nothing less than perfect!

This was our first time going for dinner. My husband and I along with another close couple. Food was tasty but portions were small. They didn’t have 2 wine bottles that we wanted and gave something close. Our server lady was not friendly. One of our friends were celebrating their birthday this week, I had specifically mentioned in the note while making a reservation AND told her in person to see if can do something special. She promised she will put a candle in our desert AND give us beer which was on her. I was happy to hear. Then, time for desert came and no candles or promised beer on the house . We even got our check. Then I asked her what happened to the request and she was like “ohh” and went back to get us I don’t know what. I was very disappointed with the service. Our friend was not interested at this point and we just left even before she could get back. Will not go here again.

Birch and Barley continues to impress us each and every time we go. We are very much into beer, making this an obvious destination as I would put their beer list (shared with their 2nd floor bar, Churchkey) against any restaurant in the world, but the food is consistently great as well. Additionally, the service is always phenomenal and if you care to engage with them, the staff can always hold a great and often educational talk about beer. While I could talk about their brews for the entirety of this review, I would hate to leave out that they really have some exceptional cocktails as well. Also, please do not think that the drinks are at the center of the attraction here - the cuisine stands on its own against DC's best. We had their Mother's Day Brunch and each course on the menu was enjoyed by all. We look forward to returning for dinner and seeing what their new chef has in store.

Affordable, high class restaurant. Stunning, creative, super tasty food; excellent service and warm atmosphere. Professionally done beer list. The food is even better. It's our favorite place. It is as if management wants everything to be perfect. That amazes me. We were downstairs; it's more casual upstairs.

Very nice ambiance. A dark setting which made saturday night date night even more romantic. I recommend the Buratta appetizer and Strip Loin.

Came here on a whim with a friend after not having been here for a few years. I recall being enthralled with the food the last time that I was here. Apparently since the last time there has been a change in chef.

Split a small plate and a flatbread. The smokey mushroom really called to us, however the thought was that while the smokiness was great, there were not nearly enough mushrooms or "stuff" and felt more like we were eating glorified bread. The asparagus were good, well cooked, but didn't really stand out. Basically, not a bad meal, but didn't stand out as particularly great, and certainly does not match my memories of the place.

Food and drink were good, server was very odd - would ask questions and walk away almost before we were done answering.

The food menu was limited for brunch but the food was great. They had drinks listed on open table that was on the menu I really wanted to try. I am not sure why they couldn’t make them if they have a bar. Also the menu items that you see listed for brunch didn’t match the resturant menu really either.

Deviled eggs had just the right amount of spicy heat. Burger was quite good. Chard salad and lemon dessert were only ok. It is a bit too dark in the restaurant.

I wanted to get brunch somewhere last minute before I had to go to work myself (I work in the service industry) and Birch & Barley had the quick fix I needed. I got the chicken & waffles which didn't change my world, but it hit the spot. What DID change my world was the Early Spring cocktail. Mamma Mia that was the most refreshing cocktail I have ever had, and I will be returning just to taste that again, considering it's probably seasonal. I also had the Irish Hello-- it was like a coffee old fashioned. Also great, but early spring was the big winner this brunch. Great service, good food, amazing drinks.

Beer selection is, of course, amazing -- truly, outstanding. Menu a bit limited, food ranged from good to very good -- nothing mind-bending, no real clunkers. A nice place to eat good food and explore the world of beer with friends.

I loved this place and the server was attentive with our drinks, but for some reason, our food took FOREVER to come out. We looked around at one point and no one had any food on their tables- even tables that were seated before us. Everything else was great and the food was delish!

My husband and I had dinner before a show at studio theatre. We greatly enjoyed the service and food. I had the 3-Star beer with toasted pecan and it was yummy. We ordered beets salad to share. I had spaghettini Nero with clams that was really good and my husband had the ribs that was also excellent. We loved the desserts of pie and cheesecake . The service was top notch. We will definitely go again

New Yorker foodie snob here - very impressed. We had the chicken, the short ribs, a flatbread and two apps... plus great beer... worth having to eat early because there were no later reservations. Totally fresh and delicious, and reasonably priced for what you get.

The food was delicious! We all ordered items to share but also shared entires and I didn’t have anything I didn’t like. Our service was terrible. The waitress seemed very annoyed and irritated with us. She didn’t smile once; hardly greeted us at the table and constantly forgot stuff we asked for.

Initially, my friend and I were really excited to visit this restaurant. The pictures of the food and location looked great. When we arrived, we were sat in the back of the restaurant which instantly changed the love of the ambiance. It’s separated by a wall from the main dining room, dark, and only receives light from the kitchen. Service was poor & extremely slow, and the food was overpriced. I will not be back.

Great food good service. Unique dishes. You will pay a premium and may feel like your drinks are too small, but I say it’s all good and a fantastic night out for a special occasion or to really impress a date especially if you sit at the chef’s counter.

Great brunch spot. Chicken and waffles really hit the spot and their carbonara is delicious, though the pancetta/bacon could have used a bit more cooking because it lacked any crisp and the fat didn't render. Left it quite tough and chewy. Which to be honest, maybe that is what they were going for?

Excellent service and cocktails. Entrees this time around (Buccatini and Suckling Pig) did not meet the standards set by previous visits. Still, solid place with good people working the joint.

Excellent food in a charming setting. I had the smoked bucatini, which is a variation of a cacio e pepe pasta. It was absolutely delicious. We first ordered drinks upstairs at Churchkey and we were able to take them down with us for dinner. It was a very quiet, dim setting (definitely romantic if that's what you're looking for). We were there on a Sunday night, so I imagine it's a little louder / more crowded on other nights. Highly recommend!
