The service was terrific and food delicious. I had chicken and waffles. It was a tad bit pricey though.
Deviled eggs had just the right amount of spicy heat. Burger was quite good. Chard salad and lemon dessert were only ok. It is a bit too dark in the restaurant.
Service was great! Everyone was kind and accommodating. Parking was easier than expected. Food, cocktails, and beer were very good.
I wanted to get brunch somewhere last minute before I had to go to work myself (I work in the service industry) and Birch & Barley had the quick fix I needed. I got the chicken & waffles which didn't change my world, but it hit the spot. What DID change my world was the Early Spring cocktail. Mamma Mia that was the most refreshing cocktail I have ever had, and I will be returning just to taste that again, considering it's probably seasonal. I also had the Irish Hello-- it was like a coffee old fashioned. Also great, but early spring was the big winner this brunch. Great service, good food, amazing drinks.
All I can say is AWESOME! I wish they had seated us in a booth, but other than that the food was Great! My "drinks" were also Awesome 😉👍 can't wait until next time
Beer selection is, of course, amazing -- truly, outstanding. Menu a bit limited, food ranged from good to very good -- nothing mind-bending, no real clunkers. A nice place to eat good food and explore the world of beer with friends.
I loved this place and the server was attentive with our drinks, but for some reason, our food took FOREVER to come out. We looked around at one point and no one had any food on their tables- even tables that were seated before us. Everything else was great and the food was delish!
My husband and I had dinner before a show at studio theatre. We greatly enjoyed the service and food. I had the 3-Star beer with toasted pecan and it was yummy. We ordered beets salad to share. I had spaghettini Nero with clams that was really good and my husband had the ribs that was also excellent. We loved the desserts of pie and cheesecake . The service was top notch. We will definitely go again
Service was excellent They have a changing menu, but we all found food that we all enjoyed.
Good location before Studio Theatre. Sucking pig for table of 4 is excellent deal and plenty of food.
Best brunch experience in DC! Knowledgeable staff and exceptional service. We cannot wait to return!
Cool atmosphere, incredible beer list, and very good food.
Came here for a Birthday Brunch on Sunday. The food was good and service was great, but the table we were at was a little dark. Best spot is definitely by the window!
New Yorker foodie snob here - very impressed. We had the chicken, the short ribs, a flatbread and two apps... plus great beer... worth having to eat early because there were no later reservations. Totally fresh and delicious, and reasonably priced for what you get.
The food was delicious! We all ordered items to share but also shared entires and I didn’t have anything I didn’t like. Our service was terrible. The waitress seemed very annoyed and irritated with us. She didn’t smile once; hardly greeted us at the table and constantly forgot stuff we asked for.
Few options but all very delicious sounding and my meal was great!
Server was offputting and no birthday celebratory on behalf of the resto was made despite advanced notice.
Loved eating here! The boozy brunch value was great, and the biscuits and gravy were to die for! The atmosphere and service were excellent as well, and I’ll be returning and recommending to my friends
Food was good, not spectacular. The brunch cocktails were very good.
Initially, my friend and I were really excited to visit this restaurant. The pictures of the food and location looked great. When we arrived, we were sat in the back of the restaurant which instantly changed the love of the ambiance. It’s separated by a wall from the main dining room, dark, and only receives light from the kitchen. Service was poor & extremely slow, and the food was overpriced. I will not be back.
The menu was confusing. The food was very greasy and similar to microvable meals. The beer list was extensive, but extremely overpriced. However, the service was very good and the layout of the restaurant was unique.
Great food good service. Unique dishes. You will pay a premium and may feel like your drinks are too small, but I say it’s all good and a fantastic night out for a special occasion or to really impress a date especially if you sit at the chef’s counter.
We were celebrating our anniversary. Not only was the chef’s tasting menu with beer pairings amazing, but they brought us complimentary champagne and oysters for our special day. Food was amazing, service was amazing, whole experience was amazing. I would absolutely recommend!
Amazing service and delicious food! Beer knowledge is exceptional!
Great brunch spot. Chicken and waffles really hit the spot and their carbonara is delicious, though the pancetta/bacon could have used a bit more cooking because it lacked any crisp and the fat didn't render. Left it quite tough and chewy. Which to be honest, maybe that is what they were going for?
Excellent service and cocktails. Entrees this time around (Buccatini and Suckling Pig) did not meet the standards set by previous visits. Still, solid place with good people working the joint.
Excellent food in a charming setting. I had the smoked bucatini, which is a variation of a cacio e pepe pasta. It was absolutely delicious. We first ordered drinks upstairs at Churchkey and we were able to take them down with us for dinner. It was a very quiet, dim setting (definitely romantic if that's what you're looking for). We were there on a Sunday night, so I imagine it's a little louder / more crowded on other nights. Highly recommend!
The food is objectively subpar and the service was slow. There are many better restaurant options in DC.
Great brunch! Excellent service! Food was delicious! Will be back!
Have been to other restaurants owned by this group but first time at Birch and Barley and it was amazing. The food was fantastic and their beer selection is awesome, will definitely be back
Great food .... restaurant was too loud
Brunch! The service was excellent and we were seated right away. Great experience overall.
Our server/general service was truly great! The short rib was amazing - so tender! Will def recommend :)
B&B is a favorite of mine, and has been quieter when I have been in the past, but the noise level was a big high this most current meal for what our group was looking for, and I had a bit of trouble hearing my table. There were also very few non-meat dishes available. Both the fishes had meat, as one was made with veal and the other with pancetta. However, they accommodated our restrictions by letting us order one of the tasting menu dishes a la carte, which was wonderful and quite considerate of them. And that dish (a squash risotto) was rather spectacular! Also the homemade biscuits we got to start were also excellent. All in all-great food and lots of great beer options, but a bit of a noisy environment.
Cacio de pepe was great! Dorade was fishy, cheese plate was fantastic.
Dined here for the first time on Sunday evening with two friends, drinks were on point and with over 500 beer selections you are bound to find something to your liking, great liquor menu too if that's more your style. Charcuterie board for an appetizer was delicious, we went with the cote de boeuf as the table entree and was disappointed with it, no way was there 35 oz of meat served, the portion was quite small and quite fatty. The broccoli rabe was overcooked. The potatoes were the best thing on the platter! Overall, I would come back for drinks and appetizers, but would not have dinner here.
Service was very courteous, polite, patient, and well informed about the food and drink menu, which is sayin a lot given there are hundreds of beers available here. The tap list was outstanding and the menu helped digest the options by organizing beers by type and even further by taste, giving the reader a captivating glimpse at what they were about to order.
The food was perfect. I had chicken, date had pasta. Chicken was moist, cooked perfectly, and the pasta was rich but well balanced.
The layout caught me by surprise. Walking in, the lower seating area has great ambiance for the evening. There’s a separate upper tiered seating area adjacent to the kitchen. Tables are well spaced and you don’t feel like you’re on top of your neighbors. In this upper area, you’re able to see the excitement in the kitchen, but the light coming from here breaks into the dining space and, for me, this distinguished the vibe in the upper tier seating area from that on the lower, main floor. My date had a background working in the dining industry and he enjoyed seeing everything in action. To each their own. No harm done and it was a unique experience, if anything.
We are looking forward to circling back to Birch and Bailey for another evening together. In the meantime, I will highly recommend this restaurant to friends and family.
Overall Birch Barley was an enjoyable experience for brunch. They food was excellent, however I just wish they had a few more menu items to choose from.
Not great, not bad. Top 3 beer selection in town. They serve "Old Fashioneds" on the menu, which is a big thing in the Midwest. It was mostly just hard liquor and an ice cube. The drink was OK but it wasn't an Old Fashioned, nor was it very good. The pasta was good, not great. Salad was good, not great. Everything was just fine and OK, and a little bit overpriced for the quality and space. The space itself is OK. This is the best OK bar in town.
High quality beer selection and ambience but that’s where it stops. Food was mediocre at best but service was solid. Would go back for a beer or a charcuterie board.
