Ordered the Steak and Eggs with Tots. Was not disappointed. An extra two thumbs up for those tots, too.

B&B always nails it on all fronts. I go for the best beer menu in town, but love it for the food, service and value.

Came for brunch with 4 friends from out of town. We took advantage of the special that comes with two cocktails, bottomless coffee, and an entree. Not typically a huge fan of gin but, the "Punch Below the Beltway" was a fantastic mid-day cocktail. I also highly recommend the cauliflower starter, as well as the carbonara - I was literally licking my plate!

We would have ranked the restaurant service higher if it weren't for the fact that many of the food runners were the ones that presented some dishes and they didn't have enough english proficiency to be completely understandable. So at some times, we didn't know what we were eating. Everything on the tasting menu was good but not great. The octopus was oversalted and a little tough, the gnocci was good but not great and the duck breast (they didn't ask us how we wanted it cooked) was medium to medium well. What makes this place stand out is the beer pairings. They matched the flavors of the food really well and were exceptionally thought out. I would say come for the beer and stay for the beer, the food is good, but not great.

Generally very good. Attentive and considerate staff, very knowledgeable about the menu options and especially the beer selection. The environment is dark, but not in a bad way.

I was disappointed with the food. I had chicken and waffles. The chicken had garlic on it - which didn't go very well with the waffles. The waffle was just OK. We haven't been in a while and won't bother to go back.

Ate here over Thanksgiving weekend. It may have been our favorite meal of the weekend. Our waiter was awesome and helped with ordering beer (they have many). The atmosphere is amazing. We had the cauliflower appetizer and mussels. Both delicious. Our table had 2 bucatini - amazing, short ribs - unbelievable, and a burger. Everyone loved their entrees. We would definitely go back again and again!

Good-what we had was tasty (tater tots and beet salad). The biscuits were really yummy. The chefs tasting menu looked great and I️ wished I️ could have ordered something from that menu but those dishes were not available individually.

The food here was good however the brunch menu did not have much selection and you had to order everything a la Carter. The boozy brunch was not really worth it as it was only two drinks and you had to ask for basic amenities that should automatically be provided. The fresh baked bread, bacon and charcuterie was amazing. Basically good food but brunch does not seem to be their specialty for hard core brunchers.

All in all a good experience. The wait was a little long even with a reservation. Server forgot I had given her my card for the table as it was a special occasion and dropped the check in the center of the table. Food was great from top to bottom.

The Birch & Barley kitchen was very accommodating to my friend's garlic allergy - even sending out a specific amuse-bouche that she could try. The food was fantastic, our server friendly, and of course the beer was great!

Loved the baked eggs and mussels as well as bread that accompanied these dishes. Very good. Our table was not ready for our 12:15 reservation so after5-10 minutes we asked to sit at one of the high tops since we had a flight to catch. My one complaint: it was too dark in restaurant. Not so easy to read menu.

Absolutely amazing. We had the tasting menu and optional beer pairings to go along with it, and I was honestly blown away by some of the pairings. Typically you'd think of wine as the drink of choice for this sort of thing, but Birch and Barley is dedicated to showing that beer can do the same just as well, if not better. The Carbonara paired with a Doppelbock was the highlight, but all six courses (including the optional cheese course) and their beers were phenomenal. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Our server, John, was knowledgable and gregarious and I wish he could be there for all of my meals. The noise level is definitely high, but that was expected and the ambiance of the restaurant works with noise. Legitimately the only thing I'd knock is the slippery acrylic chairs that really only let you sit one way, but that's SUCH a minor complaint.

No question the best dining experience of my life. Fine-dining level food in an atmosphere that is the exact opposite of stuffy.

Excellent service, even during a busy Sunday brunch time. Tasty lobster roll. Delish "Muddy Blarey". Only complaint (becoming more and more common all over D.C.) too LOUD. Hard to talk to companions.

Let me start by saying the service was amazing! Everyone was so friendly. Our server even gave us some sightseeing pointers. With that being said, the food can be described as “meh.” We went for Sunday Brunch. Started with the deviled eggs. They were interesting but nothing spectacular. They had a bit of a spicy bite but they had an overwhelming taste of vinegar. For entrees I had the steak and eggs and my husband had the chicken and waffles. My husband loved the chicken and waffles but said the chicken was a little dry. My steak was cooked well but once again had a vinegar sauce over it which took over. My eggs still had runny whites which I specifically asked not to have. The tots were amazing! If I could go back in time I would have just ordered them because they were delicious. I had such high hopes for the food but I was definitely let down. With so many brunch options in DC I’m not sure I will find myself back here.

Accommodated my party of 7 even though seating sits 6 people as well as the fact that I was running 15mins late. Nice ambience and very friendly wait staff.

We were a little late for our reservation and the host was super accommodating and nice. We were sat in a table that was directly in the sun and had to all move to one side to avoid it, but it was unavoidable and hot. We asked to open the garage door so it would be less warm but were told no. We ordered drinks and each one of our glasses were dirty with dried water spots (which we understand, but still don't like to see) but three of our glasses had noticeable lip marks on them. We sent them back and they brought us new drinks, would have been nice to get a round on the house or some sort of acknowledgement. The bill didn't capture the brunch experience. Cool place, but overall not a great experience.

Service was good, but food was under seasoned and overpriced. It was a disappointing meal. Would not reccommend for brunch, dinner menu may be better.

Extensive beer selection is a plus! If you like beer and want to try all sorts of brews, I’d definitely recommend B&B for that.

Service was great and the place was busy. Food was ok, nothing received a wow from the table. We tried meat and cheese plate, flatbreads, chicken and burger. Drinks were a bit on the smaller side. Good beer selection, of course.

My friends and I did the "boozy brunch" add-on where it's $12 for two brunch cocktails and unlimited coffee. The pours for the mimosas were pretty small, and they rarely offered us coffee refills. The food was good but overpriced.

The drinks lists are great and it's a very nice space. But the food was so-so and the service was worse. Our waitress spilled water on us multiple times; less problematic but still not ideal she forgot a glass of wine one of our party wanted and didn't bring sugar or milk with our coffee. As to the food, the fish dish was really, really, really small - as in a "you've got to be kidding me" small. The mussels were excellent; the rest was fine. Although the drink selection is great and the atmosphere are both good I wouldn't go back.

My significant other and I went there for our 1-year anniversary. They gave us a quiet table as requested and then brought out complimentary sparkling rose and an appetizer compliments of the chef since they knew it was our anniversary.

The overall experience was fantastic. We had the chef's tasting menu with the complementary beer pairing. I had never experienced such a wonderful dinner. The waiter explained each dish and beer in full and elaborated as to why they were paired together. The food was outstanding. The beers were perfectly paired and added to the experience of the dinner.

I look forward to going back for another wonderful dinner!
