BIN189 Ratings and Reviews
I have been going to this restaurant since it was the HIlton. I found the tables to be lacking linen table clothes. I missed the crystal glasses and set flat ware on the table. The noise level was that of a bar of lesser value. The menus were sub standard and very limited in food selection. Overall the restaurant has gone down in ambiance with value non existant.
Over a very very expensive location with sub standard features....I will go somewhere else from now on.
The server was very friendly and helpful; however, service was very slow. Not sure if on the part of the kitchen or her. The restaurant was almost empty when we were there, so don't know why it took so long to get our food. Food was good but pricey. We enjoy coming here because you can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Arrowhead.
Usually very good service, I don't know what happened this time. At first our server was very attentive, then all of a sudden she disappeared. My husband had to find the manager and expressed that he was very upset, when you're paying this amount for a meal the service should be, and is expected, to be excellent. After my husband complained the bartender was pitching in delivering our drink orders, and people out of uniform delivered our dinner. Then our server re-appeared. I don't think it was her fault, I think management sent her somewhere else, as they had a much larger party that came in after we were seated. They were nice enough to send over 2 desserts, for our party of 6, it probably should have been a couple more. I will continue to come with my girlfriends for lunch, but I don't think I'll ever be able to get my husband to come for dinner!
We used to really enjoy this place. However, the last couple trips have disappointed us. Furthermore, their menu has changed again and is very limited. Our most recent trip has put an end to our visits. It was a busy weekend night, and we could understand one of these mistakes happening, but all in one visit is just too much. Our experience included watered down cocktails, inaccurate food orders upon arrival, and repeated delayed service for requested items requiring us to track down the waitress.
Overall I'd say it was disappointing. Such a lovely view but the food is essentially uninspired bar food, at best. The staff was pleasant for the most part, but easily overwhelmed. I believe there lacks direction and training, from the executive chef on down. We were so happy to see the beautiful wine collection that graces the lovely restaurant entrance and private dining, but alas, the bottles are empty and for decoration only. I'm afraid bin 189 is filled wth empty promise.
We had been to Bin 189 about 2 years ago, and remember it as an upscale, innovative spot. The menu has changed dramatically, to more of a basic bar and grill, more geared for families. The more unique offerings are gone, and the salads are basic, but tasty. It is no longer a "destination" spot at Lake Arrowhead, but just another restaurant in an area with a dearth of good ones.
Raved about gluten free bread but were out of it. Ordered lemonade - out. Ordered ginger ale - it was flat. Didn't have the wine I ordered. Waited forever for an appetizer and then it showed up seconds before the meal. My husband asked for bread with dinner, it showed up as they were clearing the plates. What a mess!
The fact that this was the only place in town not booked for the holiday weekend should have told us all we needed to know. Never again. The service was terrible. The hostess was absent minded. The drinks were disgusting. The food was so-so at best, and certainly not worthy of the $150 bill for dinner. The singer in the lounge was lovely, but it didn't occur to anyone to turn off the music that was playing in the restaurant while she was singing?
We have been dining periodically at Bin 189 for 20+ years. The food this visit was as good as we have experienced before and perhaps the best. Very good and prepared beautifully. Reasonably priced for the foods offered.
Service was top notch in every way. Attentive but not obtrusive.
What else can be said about setting and view other than spectacular.
We have stayed at the Lake Arrowhead resort and dined at Bin 189 for over 25 years. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The one thing they can do to improve on the service is to space the outdoor heaters evenly among the tables instead of close to only one table. We were one of the first parties to arrive that evening and it was still warm outside. As the evening cooled, the staff placed the heaters next to tables who had just requested them, and ignored our request earlier in the evening.
Our main courses were both very good (Salmon and short ribs.) However, the service was very poor-unprofessional. It took about 10 minutes for the waiter to bring the 2nd glass of wine after we ordered it. We watched the bartender pour it and the waiter walked by it about 5 times- before bringing it to our table. The appetizer was terrible (bruschetta) we complained to waiter who just said "oh" - not even "I'm sorry." We also told the manager or hostess? She didn't introduce herself - she explained it was a new menu item- regardless, the table next to us also complained about the bruschetta, imagine our surprise when it was not removed from the bill! The waiter ignored us after our main meal was served and finally we flagged him down and he came over and said "ready for you bill?" we said, "actually we 'd like to see dessert menu", he didn't say anything just turned around and returned with a dessert menu-no explanation of desserts, nothing about anything being special...it was clear he had minimal training which, frankly, reflects more poorly on the restaurant management than him. I probably will not return to BIN189 which is a shame because it is the prettiest venue around. But to pay almost $200.00 for 2 meals with wine and have such poor service...just not worth it.
My husband and I ate dinner here on a Friday night while staying at the resort for a church retreat. They recommended reservations, so we made them, although there were empty tables all over the place when we arrived. We were seated at a table near the window, which offers beautiful views of Lake Arrowhead.
It took about 10 minutes for a server to come to our table to take a drink order. Service was very slow in getting drinks and our food, but I will say that our sever did refill my iced tea promptly.
I ordered a chicken carbonara pasta (which was quite good) and my husband had the filet mignon. He ordered it medium rare, and it came well done.
We overall enjoyed our dinner, but the overarching reason for an average review was our poor experience the following day for lunch. We both ordered burgers. My husband asked for his medium and it was again overcooked to well done. I ordered my burger well done and it was like eating a charcoal briquette. So burnt and dry it was almost inedible. Plus, neither burger had any sauce or condiment of any kind, even though we had both ordered a sauce. Our server never returned to see how we liked our food, so the situation couldn't be remedied. Plus, our food took almost 30 minutes, even though the restaurant was again practically empty.
I overall wouldn't recommend this place. Overpriced for overcooked food and slow service. I think your money is better spent elsewhere.
This place should be ashamed of themselves. NOT MARRIOT QUALITY. We have been going here for years, and it's just rapidly been going downhill and we won't be back. The food is horrible, the prices went up, the menu has nothing good left on it, and the service is atrocious. I guess they think they have you because there aren't many places to eat in Lake Arrowhead... well, I'd rather pack a lunch than waste $150 dollars on disgusting food and trashy, rude waitstaff.
Food was just okay. Mixing a cream sauce on broccoli rabe with a demi glaze is a no no. Pork over cooked. Truffle dressing in the salad should have a hint of truffle, this place dumped a ton of truffle oil on the salad to where I could not eat it. Sadly, we have been trying this place for 18 years, still not even average for a Marriott "Autograph Collection". What a joke.
