We had a party of five, the waiter that was helping our server picked up our apps before we were done, had to ask him to put them back so we could finish.
We asked for our steaks to be "Oscar style" we were told no. I've been there before and had no problem getting served Oscar style.
2 out of the five steaks were NY strips, both were extremely tough, looked more like ribeye's than a strip. I had mine replaced and it really wasn't much better. I understand that a NY strip is a firmer cut of beef, but when you have grizzle running through the meat, really? that should have never been served. and to add insult to injury, since Oscar wasn't available, I asked for a few scallops in a scampi sauce, and was charged $15.00 for three scallops that were clearly overcooked. I stopped complaining at this point because I didn't want to make my guests uncomfortable. I've been to Billy's many times, the last 2 visits were on Sundays and both times the food was sub par. When you're dropping $500.00 on dinner you have high expectations.
I wont be back.
Our server Megan, on the hand was awesome, she deserves to work in a place that wont embarrass her.
Brunch was ruined by slow service, cold food, and
Billy’s is always one of our favorites and our go to restaurant for a family meal. This trip was Sunday brunch and I always book through Open Table and they always have the table ready. Their menu has something for everyone and my grandsons shared the pancakes which they really enjoyed. Billy’s is convenient in downtown Roanoke and parking either on street or in free garage over the weekend nearby. Billy’s is a favorite indeed.
One of THE BEST meals I've ever had! Highly recommend the grouper special, crabcakes, tuna wontons (appetizer), steaks and desserts!
Food was great.
There is not a dinner at Billy’s that I am not happy with. The waiter we had was amazing. They were very crowded and our dinner came out a little longer than normal but the waiter was very nice and manager came to say they were sorry as well but even with that I was very pleased with the service. We always enjoy having out dinner date nights at Billy’s. The service is always amazing and the food is always 5 stars. Plus we normally always get at least 1 to 2 bottles of wine as well.
Billy's is our go-to for a great downtown brunch or casual drinks/dinner!
The food was very good but expensive. Our waiter was very nice and was working hard but it took 30 minutes to finally get our coffee and the dessert was already eaten at that point.
Great service and wonderful plates. Upscale take on the usual. Flavorful but not over done.
Really friendly staff -- every single person there. The Easter buffet was excellent. We had gone to the Hotel Roanoke last year and Billy's fr exceeded the hotel buffet. Better food at a better price with much nicer staff.
We chose Billy's for Easter brunch and we were not disappointed. What a treat to have crab cakes on the buffet. Each item on the buffet was well prepared and presented. It was just delightful.
Easter brunch.........at $35a head I thought it was pretty needy to change for ice tea and coffee. I would rather have paid $40 and they have been included , with possibly a complimentary Momosa or Bloody Mary .
We had a great date night at Billy's this weekend. The portion sizes were perfect size and the food was delicious. My boyfriend and I both got steaks and both were cooked to perfection. We will definitely go back!
Food was phenomenal but almost more than you could eat. Service was was great and wine selection was very acceptable. Most enjoyable evening with visiting daughter!
Great dining experience with the restaurant busy as always. A great vibe every time. Greg served us this evening and listed the specials of which we had the hummus appetizer and special catch of the day of Red Snapper. Everything was spot on as always with regard to environment, service, and food.
Lobster Mac and cheese is an all-time favorite. Our server Sarah took great care of us for brunch and their chef always does an amazing job. Thanks Billy’s!
Fun place for solid meal while visiting Roanoke.
Great food with a relaxed atmosphere. We were going to dinner with friends and this place was a winner.
Perhaps I shouldn't have made a reservation during St. Patrick's day. Noise level was extremely high. Those eating dinner were seated upstairs so that we would be separated from the festivities. Ambiance was not as nice. It would have been nice if they had told us that when making the reservation. Food was none the less excellent.
Billy's has always been dear to me as it's where my future son in law asked me for my daughters hand in marriage. I love the bar at Billy's and the ambience of the establishment. On a positive note, the calamari we ordered as an appetizer arrived promptly and was delicious. However, the rest of the visit was unpleasant. I ordered the ribeye cowboy steak and my wife ordered the salmon. She said the salmon was tasty but it didn't come with the sides she ordered. My steak arrived, about 1/4" thick and almost raw. I sent it back. The waitress took it back leaving me with the side vegetables to enjoy. I then noticed the sides were wrong on my plate too. I ordered asparagus and mixed vegetables and got masked potatoes and mixed vegetables instead. I sent it back again. When it returned it was wrong again, potatoes and asparagus this time. I sent it back a third time. It took over an hour from the time we finished our appetizer until the first of the wrong orders arrived. Other patrons arriving after us were finishing their meals and ours had not yet arrived. Our waitress seemed unconcerned with the repeated mistakes and long delay in getting our order. Most of the time she was nowhere to be found. The ribeye cowboy, when I finally got to eat it, was skimpy and tasteless. I can't remember ever having poorer service or a skinnier, tasteless cowboy steak. To be sure, Billy's can turn out some fine food and has a competent wait staff. On this occasion they simply missed on the food and the service.
Our server Kalab was very friendly and attentive. Gin martini and ice berg wedge was very tasty. Lemon cake for desert was awesome. NY strip however was very tough and just not all that good for $28.
I have been to Billy’s several times, so I was a bit shocked at my experience this time.
We had reservations as it was a special occasion and yet was still attempted to be seated on the traffic side of the main waitress station. I asked for something more private and less traffic. We were then seated right beside a table of loud women clearly there to drink heavily. There were more private tables in plain view that were never seated with any diners. Our table could not have sat my boyfriend and I further apart in an obnoxiously loud area.
After having a reaction with the food, my boyfriend had went outside towards the end of the meal and became ill. The waitress at this point told me I should “Go ahead and drink his too” pointing at his chocolate martini. After having her act as if she was hyped up on methamphetamines, I was thoroughly disgusted with her and slipped the money for the bill and walked out the door we were sat at.
We dined early to get to a show and had an excellent experience all around. The staff were patient and helpful while we waited for our friends to arrive and, perhaps coincidentally, we were seated at our favorite table. The food was excellent and just the right portions to enable room for a most tasty dessert.
Very good resturant and located downtown Roanoke....
I went to Billy's for drinks on Saturday night, Mar 3. I saw a hamburger, and couldn't get it out of my mind, so I went back on Sunday, Mar 4 to get one. I chose the "Southwest Burger" and it was wonderful. I am so glad I went there, and I can't wait to return to Roanoke, and go there again.
Billy's is an excellent restaurant-food and service are always exceptional!
interesting placed, pub atmosphere very very loud. Food pretty good. Prices moderate to high. Impossible to talk over the noise. A screaming birthday party and a man falling from his barstool and cracking his head open on the floor was just the beginning. Nice wine list in the 75-125 price range. The waitress was great however.
After eating here many times, we were really happy that the service has been improved! Also, the crab cakes were awesome- - we've never been disappointed with them.
Conveniently located across the glass bridge from the Roanoke hotel, service was great as was the food. Orders ncluded crab cakes, T-bone steak and chicken morney. Colleague commented his steak was among the top 5 he ever ate!
One of our favorite places to eat in town. Great atmosphere at bar area, restaurant table, or outside area during warmer months.
Our experience was just okay. We had a reservation and were told when we were seated that the kitchen was backed up, which was fine because she did bring us bread to tied us over. Then when our meal did come my husband's pork chop was way undercooked. The manager did come to our table to apologize but by the time his pork chop was brought back to the table I was done eating and all they did was throw his chop back on so it was dry and burned on the outside when they brought it back. We were uncomfortable sending it back the first time so we didn't say anything the second. Our waitress was great but I was disappointed in the dinner. For the price we expected better. We did, however, love our apps. and cocktails.
The place was hopping and very noisy. Not a big deal...we can't have it both ways...but it was hard to carry on a conversation without adding to the noise. Food was great as was our waiter. Service was a bit slow, but certainly a result of being very busy. This did not cause a problem, as I would rather see the success of the restaurant with noise and busy servers rather than a desolate setting with speedy service. A great experience that I will revisit.
Our first time there. Celebrated a 50th birthday and server made us feel extra special. Great food & excellent service.
Visiting Roanoke and chose Billy's from reviews. It was a Friday night and it was quite busy. Our waiter, Joel, was terrific. Food was excellent, I had the mushroom tortellini and my partner had meatloaf. Both were very generous servings and delicious. Drinks were perfect, Rye manhattan and Moscato. Atmosphere and cleanliness are superb. When I mentioned it was my partner's birthday, Joel offered a dessert which was only turned down because there was just no room for it. Instead, he brought us two Prosecco's, which was a perfect finale.
My only complaint is the noise level was so high holding a conversation was quite difficult. This is not the place to go for a quiet, romantic dinner.
Patrick was fantastic, the asparagus was phenomenal as for the whole plate as well
Outstanding as usual.
Excellent in every way possible.
They honored my request for the quietest table, and recognized a birthday in our family group. We had 4 different entrees, all excellent! Really great restaurant.
The service we received was great. We enjoyed the overall experience, the food was decent. The ahi tuna wonton appetizer was really good as was the salmon entree. The NY strip was ok, although a little dry. Cooked well, just a little dry and left a little to be desired for a rather expensive steak. The overall experience was good, just a little pricey which was known before going.
Attentive service and excellent food. Wait staff and manager stopped by to check on us throughout our meal.
Food was pretty good and reasonably priced. Found some shells in my lobster Alfredo that’s the only reason I’m giving 4 instead of 5 stars.
