Bill's Bar and Burger Ratings and Reviews
Bill's used to be my favorite place for a burger. Under new ownership, they have changed these classic, thick, juicy, medium rare burgers to 2 flat, stacked medium well or well done only. I'm not a big fan of this, but will continue to go, as it's still a lively, casual restaurant with great fries and shakes.
It had such promise, but our server was far more interested in chattering with co -workers and eating a snack than dealing with us. My daughter ordered a big milkshake and I ordered a glass of wine. By the time my wine came (small, expensive) she was nearly done with the milkshake. How is that possible someone made the shake by hand, delivered it and then still no glass of wine? Bar was not slammed. Just kind of weird. The burgers were EXCELLENT, however. I would give them another chance. And I'll stick to water.
Pleasant and speedy service. Lunch rush crowd makes this a lively venue, but the tables are spaced apart enough to allow for a sense of privacy. Tasty burgers and sweet potato waffle fries, but the malted milkshake was the star for this diner. Very thick milkshake, perfect amount of malt flavor, big hunks of fresh berries and it is served with an extra wide straw to prevent strawberry-hunk-log-jams.
Beers were warm, burgers were served completely incorrectly, service was slow, and listening to the staff speak to each other in derogatory terms up to and including racial slurs to each other made for a fantastically disappointing experience. Overpriced, overrated, and lost all its charm. NEVER GOING BACK.
There were three of us. My daughter got her food and was finished with the meal when the waiter came back and asked if we had gotten our food yet; when we said no he immediately went back and got it. Needless to say it was cold. No apologies or explanations were offered. We have dined here many times before but the food as well as the service appears to have gone downhill. We will not be back.
Usually great but our waiter had pretty much the whole downstairs during lunch rush. I guess some other staff didn't show up. He was hard to get a hold of and didn't bring a few items. I'll be back but this was not their best day. Food was still high quality and came out fast.
For a restaurant that says it is a burger place, they only serve them well done and buried in toppings. In addition if the burger was a third of a pound I would say I was overly generous. The server we had was inattentive. The best part of the meal was the bananas Foerster shake.
We were in the City for the day and was looking for a good, non-touristy place to eat lunch. Bill's was a great choice. My son has food allergies and the restaurant was very attentive to this. Food was quick but not rushed. And cooked very well. Will definitely eat there again.
Every time I am in Midtown with my kids I go to Bill's. For our picky eaters, it is one of the few places that satisfies kids and adults. We've tried lots of appetizers, burgers, non-burgers, desserts and cocktails. So far, we haven't been disappointed in anything. And the prices are very reasonable. Most importantly: we have never had bad service there. Will keep returning!
When we arrived (upstairs), we asked if we could have a window seat, which was available. We were told by the hostess that she had a nice table for us downstairs with a window. The "window" looked out on a women's bathroom...and there was a line. Next, our food was not hot when it arrived at the table nor was it thoroughly cooked. As we found out from the waiter, Bill's cooks their meat between medium to medium-well. This would have been nice to know before it arrived. This should have been stated on the menu or mentioned by the waiter during the ordering process. When we questioned the waiter after our food arrived, his cavalier attitude resulted in us sending one of our dishes back. This was our first and last time eating at this establishment.
On a visit from Toronto, we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Bill's Burger at Rockefeller centre in NYC. Outstanding food, the best burger ever, fresh cut fries and this meal was not just for me, but thoroughly enjoyed by my wife who has Celiac disease. A very memorable evening with great food and excellent service
We Brought our 14 and 15 year old daughters to New York for the first time. They were wanting a good burger and Bill's did not disappoint. We also shared a monster peanut butter shake which was amazing. The restaurant was not too noisy so a conversation was easily heard and not distracting. Service was attentive but not over the top intrusive. Great time.
