The drinks are good, burgers are good, most of the menu is spicy, milk shakes could replace a meal. The seating is comfortable, staff is friendly and accommodating. All appetizers are brought out together and all meals are brought out together... which unfortunately means some people will get cold food in this place.
We choose the restaurant because we have had a good experience in both of our previous visits and because we wanted a breakfast -serving restaurant near the 9-11 Memorial. But this experience was vastly different (worse) than our previous visits.
The hostess and servers had lousy attitudes and acted like we were imposing on them to walk into the restaurant. To summarize our dining experience:
- It took nearly 20 minutes to get any service
- They got the orders wrong
- They finally served us coffee (bad coffee) after I got up from my table and asked for it
- They never refilled our bad coffee, so I got up, again, got the coffee pot, and served our table myself
Like I said, our previous good experiences were the reason we went back, but this experience overshadows those . Unlikely we will return.
We absolutely love Bill's- it is our favorite spot by far! You have to try the pancakes, shakes and custom burgers! Wow! We can't get enough of this place!
The servers (Juan and Vincent are our standout favorites) are friendly, fast and very pleasant. Vincent even set us up with the Landry Select club that has given us 75 dollars in bonus savings on this trip alone!
As a true bonus, the morning manager has got to be the most pleasant man, who makes our mornings delightful to start each morning we have been here! It doesn't get any better than Bill's Downtown for a perfect morning breakfast with friendly people and delicious food! Thanks Bill's!!!
My husband and I live right across the street in battery Park city and decided to go to bills for dinner. We quickly put in an open table reservation and within 15 or 20 minutes we're on our way. When we arrived we were told there were only the high chairs in the bar seating area which was kind of a disappointment but not horrible so we were seated. Our waiter came introduced himself and took our drink order as well as our food order. Drinks were brought but it was taking a while for food to come out and I had mentioned to my husband that I noticed that when we were placing our order it wasn't written down. We ordered boneless wings with barbecue sauce and when they were brought out they had buffalo wing sauce. Buffalo wing sauce typically gives me reflux so I preferred to barbecue but our waiter was nowhere to be found so we settled and just had them since it wasn't a major deal. When our burgers arrived the server, who was not our waiter serve the food and I noticed it was not On a pretzel bun like requested and I said "I ordered mine with a pretzel bun" and and was immediately told that it was a pretzel bun even though it was identical to my husband's order. We flag down the same guy again and said this is in a pretzel bun please switch it out. Our waiter checked in and we had asked for refills which took a very long time and an equal length of time to get the check delivered. For what we spent it really the frustration of getting almost everything wrong in the order. Typically the service is a bit slow at this place but this was the absolute worst for the slow service and incorrect items. I'm not one to usually complain but two errors and then to be told I was incorrect when I was correct it was a little annoying so I thought I should share that information to other potential diners
Bills is usually a reliable spot for a casual business or workday lunch with colleagues. Today was an exception, and a very poor one at that. My cheeseburger was cooked to hockey puck territory, with cold congealed cheese on top. I did not eat the burger, only the salad, and the waiter took our credit card for the tab without even clearing my plate first. When he returned after running the card, I informed him that my burger was entirely inedible. He took the plate and said "I'll tell the chef" and walked away. I am incredibly dissatisfied with the lunch, the service and the overall experience and I will not bring colleagues or clients here again, despite the fact that it is three blocks from my office.
Very disappointed. The hostess was very unfriendly and looks like she hates her job. No greeting when we walked in, no smile, and no words when we were leaving. The waiter was also unfriendly and seemed overwhelmed even though it was not busy at the time. Never asked if we wanted dessert and just gave us the check. The burger was cold and had to be sent back. The nachos were ok, nothing special. There were flies all over the food which was very annoying. Couldn't get a refill on our water as he was nowhere to be found. Not worth the money and I won't be taking people for lunch here again.
Another good business lunch. After a few visits that were slightly flawed, our last two visits have been really great. Got a big nice table for our group of 8, got a good waiter who got everything correct, and had frequent drink refills. Food was quite good (especially the tacos) and the fish and chips special was quite nice. Bill's continues to be our go-to location for team lunches!
This was our first time here, it all started out great. We got our table right away and were able to get drink while waiting for our whole group. At first the waitress came right over to take drink orders and assist with the food orders. After that it went downhill. The had an extra plate/burger on the tray table and we stated that is not ours and/or we didn't order it. There was 3 people and there was extra food. The food was great, but the service started slacking. It was few and far between to check on us and we could have had more drinks, then we ask for the check. First there is extra items on the bill. Takes at least 10 minutes to get the waitress to correct it and then 10 more to get it back. Then we put in our payments and she picks it up. 10 more minutes later to ask how we want the payment which we carefully said, take the cash first and split the rest on the two cards. Thirty minutes go by, where is our cards and the check, I had to flag down another waitress to get our bill and when it was brought back it was wrong, it was split on the two cards and the cash gone. I guess as her tip, which was way over 20% and normally I don't have an issue tipping well above normal but not when I waited over 45 minutes to pay. We left unhappy and won't return to this location. I didn't want to waste more time complaining and having a double charge on my account.
We returned to Bill's Burger for another team lunch. We work across the street, so it's a great location for us. I've complained about various minor aspects of Bill's in previously reviews, but this time they did everything exactly right. All previous complaints did not occur this time.
We got a comfortable table for the 8 of us. A giant tall block wood table right near the kitchen. Plenty of room for everyone. Order was exactly correct, for every person. Every minor request was fulfilled corrected. The guy who didn't want LTP didn't get LTP! I got pickles but no LT, etc. AND, we saw our waiter multiple times, and he helped out when necessary. James V was the best waiter we've ever had at Bill's.
We almost didn't return to Bill's because previous visits had been OK, but not great. This visit turned it around; everything was just right and we will certainly return for our next team lunch. Great job, Bill's!
