Bijou Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Have been a Fan of this restaurant since it opened in the mid 1980s. Have recently amped up our dining out at this level and rediscovered how awesome this venue is in may respects.
This is our go to for any meal out that we would consider special. Have tried numerous menu items and daily specials, all great, but frankly hard to move from the pepper steak and the duck.
We had a wonderful meal at Bijou. There were a few mistakes with our order, but was compensated well. I do have one thing that did bother me. We ordered a very nice bottle of red wine and it was served in glasses that were for chardonnay. Not sure why since the guest next to us were given the correct glasses for their wine.
Haven't been there in many years, but it was superb as I remembered it. Lovely atmosphere, without being crowded in and there is at least at attempt at acoustics to keep the din down. It seemed an amazing value compared to our other Sarasota fine dining the following night. Drinks were great and fairly priced and the food seemed very well priced. My only thing might be that the lamb shank had suprisingly no taste of lamb, and could have been beef from the taste. I'm unsure if they do something to get rid of that "lamb taste" that some people don't like, but I love the taste of lamb and I'm just not sure why this didn't taste like it -- however the overall preparation and presentation (with Pappardelle) was superb. The trout was another good choice. Banana bread pudding was amazing. And we asked for a beet salad to share and were convinced they brought us two whole salads as they were separately plated and really very generous servings. Can't imagine one person eating both -- but sure enough there was only one on the bill.
We had an excellent Thanksgiving dinner last week . They did "Tom" proud with all the fixings. The presentation was creative and the serving size for each item just perfect. Our server took very good care of us from start to finish. It was a wonderful and memorable way to celebrate Thanksgiving.
We chose Bijou Cafe to accommodate our vegetarian brother-in-law (several salads and entrees for him), his spouse (likes steaks, not seafood), and us (omnivores, who love seafood). The server was very helpful, and took back the salad my brother-in-law had ordered, because he did not want cheese on it. It was replaced quickly.
Entrees and desserts were good, but relatively expensive. We did get little extras that we enjoyed -- small bites of an appetizer, chocolate bites after dessert.
We came at 7 pm, and there were only a few tables filled. More people came in later -- a rarity for Sarasota!
Bijou is divided into several smaller rooms, so that diners can enjoy a more intimate setting than if it were one big room. Writing this weeks after our evening there, I can't remember exactly what we ordered, but do remember being very satisfied with the entire experience.
Take it from a foodie, you can't go wrong at Bijou Cafe.
We had a reserveration 2 weeks prior to this date. This person said this is your Table, it’s this or out side. This was a awful table for two we were 4. In an aisle. Service was good not adequate. Have dined there before, however will never do it again.
There no redeeming feature except that is near the opera house.
Bijou Cafe is across the street from the opera and many of the theaters so many people go before the shows. The food is consistent and good. The service is excellent. Even though it appeared the resturant was packed we were able to get our food and had plenty of time to enjoy it before our evening show.
We had not been in awhile and a few menu favorites were absent but the food did not disappoint,
Nor did our server Elena. Extremely friendly Elena was charming and professional as well as spot on with menu recommendations.
And always a must, the crime brûlée to top off a special evening,
Three out of the four dinners were top notch.
The one NY Steak had about one-third gristle and was a much thinner cut than the other NY
Steak that was ordered. Had the gentleman spoken up immediately it would have been sent
back. Since he was a guest he didn't feel right about complaining. It was his first time at the
Bijou. He was offered a drink and dessert.
Whoever is cutting the steaks needs a refresher course. That steak should have been ground up
We will be back, because I always speak up. The other three dinner were excellent.
While in town we searched for a nice restaurant to celebrate my husband’s birthday and came across Bijou Cafe. It was such a pleasant evening; great service, food, ambiance. Fran was our primary server and helped us choose between various dishes as so many sounded amazing. The two we landed on were delicious. My husband had the duck and loved it! We’re in the area a few times per year and would definitely return to this restaurant.
It was our first time and we all enjoyed! My husband and my friend each said the NY Sirloin was the best they have had in Fl. I really enjoyed the Carolina Trout. We will go back for special occasions for sure. The hostess gave us a lovely tour and recommended happy hour as well.
Bijou is the best restaurant in Sarasota. We had a 3 course fixed priced dinner Friday evening and it was fantastic. The escargot was perfectly prepared. The main course choices were all excellent - we had the trout which was very delicious. The gelato was so so so good! We had an outdoor table and it was a beautiful evening.
