Bijou Cafe Ratings and Reviews
The experince was lack luster and food was average...service was ok but the main room is a bit tight and i felt like the tables were on top of eachother....we were not at all impressed and were disappointed because we heard wonderful things....to boot I speant $180 with tip and we had no wine just a couple of beers and water.....way overpriced for what the experince....I give it a 3 all the way around
The Bijou is one of our favorite restaurants. We drive from Port Charlotte a few times a year to dine here. The food and wine are always top quality. We like to arrive early and have a cocktail at the bar. Wish there was more seating avaiable. Have always recommended The Bijou to friends. Bon Appetite!!!
Bijou is always a favorite especially for pre/post theater. We actually "save" the restaurant for those occasions.
This last experience was not the best but no one gets a 10-10 Right?
New waiter (trying his best but OJT isn't always the best teacher) and in the overflow room. one of our party ran late so the timing because critical. Not as great service nor atmosphere in the back room as customary.
That said with popularity and success it is not unusual to have a slightly "off" night.
Our biggest complaint was the slow delivery of our cocktails . .which considering the profits in drinks is silly. We settled with one round of drinks instead of two and/or a bottle of wine.
The restaurant and staff are usually attune to time restrictions for the theater etc but the delays this night caused us to miss desert!
For two of our party of six and unforgivable sin!
Food was usual high standards (trout was excellent) and we will return in a few weeks better informed. Main room more experienced waiter! Of course our guy might be great by then as he learns the ropes. Highly suggest you try the Bijou Cafe. They deserve their success.
We enjoyed it very much. The food was very good and considering my husband has a lot of allergies, they were accommodated comfortably. The waitress and waiters were very attentive
It has a quiet atmosphere so one can have a conversation. We enjoyed it after seeing a good play at the ASOLO THEATRE.
We are not opera or live theater fans and really didn’t understand this restaurant caters totally to them since it is right next to the OperaHouse and the dinner theater.
The crowd was stuffy and/or down right rude and overly perfumed. The food was fabulous, but not worth the lack of ambiance more to our age (late 50’s so we’re certainly not young). A couple loudly announced that we’d been given the table she ‘always wants’ as if she owned the place. This isn’t the restaurant’s fault, but we likely won’t return since they’ve clearly been overrun with that snooty group of relics.
The food was more than expected. The Tuna and Sea Bass were prepared properly and pared appropriately. Service was spot on, but not overbearing. Parking was across the street in the Library lot. A very enjoyable meal with my wife, we were able to converse without a problem.
We celebrated our 55th wedding anniversary at the Bijou this week and we’re more than delighted with the entire experience. We were seated promptly - “upgraded”, the hostess said, as someone had cancelled. When told it was our anniversary, our waitress, Cathie, brought over a small candelabra and put it on our table. She helped us choose a very nice champagne. She was friendly and attentive and took excellent care of us.
We shared a wonderful salad with greens, fruit, berries and nuts - much more than a single salad! My wife was thrilled with the fresh tuna. She said it was “like eating velvet”. My duck was also excellent - moist and flavorful, and was served with both orange sauce and a dark cherry sauce, both very good. The kitchen kindly removed the stuffing at my request and served more vegetables. We declined dessert, as the dinner portions were so large we could hardly finish.
We always enjoy the Bijou and will be back soon.
This has become one of our favorite restaurants in Sarasota. The food is always delicious, and beautifully presented. Nothing unusual on the menu but really well prepared Continental Cuisine. The crab cakes, Caesar Salad, French Onion Soup and the Veal Shank....just perfect! We also love the servers, and have enjoyed Grayson, who has served us a couple of times and always with professionalism and care. Highly recommend the Bijou Cafe.
We were three for lunch, seated at a spacious table sufficiently far from other diners that we felt private and comfortable. I had a chicken paillard with sauteed spinach (unusual, I thought; it's usually with a salad); my husband had cream of asparagus soup and a good burger; and our friend had the crab and avocado salad which she thoroughly enjoyed. Everything we ate was delicious and interestingly seasoned; the service was correct and pleasant; and we enjoyed our meal thoroughly.
We'd go back!
We were seated in a lovely, quiet room. Then the waitress entered and the ambiance was ruined. A voice that large should be confined to the great outdoors. She did not have the waiter instinct for interruption ( instinct and skill, to get in and out quick, but politely) so in the middle of a sentence we were jolted by a megadecibel “How are we doing?” (”we”, like a bad nurse?). I couldn’t eat the amuse bouche because I don’t eat crab (“ha ha. Sorry,” said the Big Voice). Beet salad and special fish were excellent. Vegetarian tower was half good and half not. But I really do appreciate a restaurant’s efforts to provide a vegetarian option other than pasta. In fact that was how we chose this restaurant.
Fabulous cocktails, dinner and wine enjoyed by all. Beef Carpachio was good. (Chaz51 in Nokomis is still the best!)
Dinners enjoyed were snapper, perfectly prepared; strip steak also fabulous. Tender, flavorful and cooked Pittsburgh rare. Lamb shank special was terrific, as was the pasta. Delightful dinner prior to theater.
@ couples including myself enjoyed our visit. I enjoyed my duck dinner with side of veggies (not overcooked). Unfortunately the duck breast was a bit dry but not worth returning. Wait staff was excellent and attentive without any intrusiveness. He asked if we were attending the nearby theater and made certain there were no delays. Very appreciated. We'll come back again.
Boring tired food devoid of personality & life. Tasteless cuisine. I was so hoping for a wonderful meal but alas I was hugely disappointed. Waitress was efficient but also devoid of personality & I felt she couldn’t wait for the night to end. I was with her on that.
