I’ve been there 6 times in 6 weeks. I guess that’s a wonderful compliment, not to mention the fabulous and professional service that Grayson provided.
Our special occasion restaurant! Anniversary, birthdays, guests from out of town, family visiting! Probably there every few weeks. Have loved going to the Bojou Cafe for 12 to 15 years, at least.
Consistently delicious food and served by experienced people. So many new restaurants are built to be very noisy. We were told so that it would sound as if everyone is having fun! When you cannot hear your guests and even the wait staff has to bend down to hear us order our food,
this is not fun for anyone. Thank goodness for the Bijou Cafe!!!
Very noisy, as it was an Opera Night & quite crowded.
Bijou has always been one of my three favorite restaurants. The food is consistent and delicious and the service exemplary. However, I usually order bottled water but for some reason at my last visit i didn't and took a sip of the water and remembered why I normally do. Sarasota water is horrible but many places have used filters and have managed to eliminate the bad taste. Bijou has not which is surprising for such a high-end restaurant. Warning, order bottled water.
One disappointment...for some reason, according to Bijou, Open Table over-booked the time I made my reservation. The restaurant called me and I was asked if I minded changing it from 6:30 to 7:00. My party was willing to do so and we did - then we waited another 15 minutes for our table. Quite frankly, i expected something to be comped for the inconvenience this time mix-up caused us. Surprisingly, nothing was.
Don't let these comments deter you from coming. It is one of the best restaurants in town.
Solid place to go and have an upscale dinner. Pleasant ambience and service was good
Food is always dependable and presented well. Great wait staff! Atmosphere is comfortable and MOST people dress a little nicer for dinner.... a lost art these days! It is nice to see a clientele that doesn’t look like it just came from the beach! Nice wine selection.
We were warmly welcomed, had a relatively new waiter, who introduced himself, checked on our table often and was a professional, fun addition to the wait staff we are already familiar with. Meal was delicious, drinks were generous and a very fun night was had by all!
We celebrated a 75th family birthday. Everyone enjoyed their dinner and experience. They prepared a special birthday after dinner chocolate truffle platter for us. A. Nice surprise for the “birthday boy”!!
This was our second visit within a couple months with relatives. We can always say great things about this place. The only thing is that the Opera usually in season will perform at 7:30, so we suggest that for regular dining you should not make reservations before 7:00, maybe even 7;15-7:30 would be better. Otherwise you might have a long wait.=Service is always great.
We loved the food and our table but the bar was so loud and crowded that you couldn't enjoy it.
We should never have gone for a night out on Opera night downtown. We didn't know this. The place was mobbed. Had to wait 40 min for a table with a reservation. Food was good but over priced. Darling place that I think would be a lovely spot for lunch.
Good quality food at moderate prices. Convenient for downtown activities. Nice ambience.
Food and service is first class Karen is the best hostess in Sarasota and Grayson is the best waiter in Sarasota .
At $40 a plate for the “special” grouper, I will not return for dinner prior to the opera. The
Fish was way over-cooked and a carrot strip
as a veg is unacceptable. No salad, etc was
The Bijou Cafe is our go to restaurant for special celebrations. We recently celebrated our anniversary there and my wife and I both had the filet mignon cooked as a pepper steak. It is about the best tasting steak you can get in Sarasota. We also enjoyed splitting a dish of the potatoes dauphinoise. We were served complimentary samples of dessert along with a special happy anniversary dish of truffles. This restaurant has been about the best in Sarasota since the proprietor converted it years ago from an old Gulf gas station across from the Opera House. Not many people remember that. All in all, you can't go wrong with drinks and a delicious meal at The Bijou Cafe.
In all the years that we have dined here, I have had exceptional food and service every time!
My sister and I enjoyed a very pleasant dinner before the opera on Tuesday evening, 6 March. Staff was helpful in facilitating service so that we could finish early enough to attend the pre-opera gathering. Food was quite good and nicely served.
We told server we had theater tickets, and appreciate that dinner was served promptly but not rushed. Excellent meal, as always --- good choices really well-prepared.
Bijou Cafe is a local restaurant who’s food is always dependable, you know it will be good. We usually go on weekends as husband loves the vichyssoise, orders one and brings one home. Love the Bijou.
What a special spot. It was our first time dining there, but we felt right at home.
The waitress had a cookie-cutter impersonal demeanor, taking charge and dictating how she was going to serve us instead of letting us choose.
We made reservations 2 weeks in advance for a special Birthday, confirmed the reservation the day of in person over the phone and were given a not that desirable , off prime small table in the area we requested. We were on time. Not a great experience.
The game Pate appetizer was mediocre and a bit watery.
Their famous pommes gratin were hopelessly over cooked and had the constituency of a cheese fondue. Terrible and embarrassing for what I’ve come to know how this dish should be, I’ve eaten it there many times.
Our entrees were acceptable and we decided to not complain as to not taint our special celebration.
We won’t be back anytime soon, after many great meals over the years.
Charming venue with excellent service. Best duck outside of Prague. Delicious escargot, tuna tartare, creme brûlée , chocolate mousse. Can’t wait to go back for the lamb chops
The food and service were top-notch.
Our server, Eileen, was so sweet and helpful.
Always have a wonderful pre-opera dinner
The restaurant delivered its usual good service, food quality, cocktails and timeliness to be on time for the curtain at the Opera! Bravo!
A wonderful staff,... enjoyable time, great service and tasty meals
Greeted with a friendly smile as soon as we walked in the door. Our server was pleasant and attentive. I had a delicious French martini and my husband had a glass of Pinot Noir. Our entree choices were a filet and a pepper steak with sides of grilled asparagus and scalloped potatoes (can't remember the proper French name used for the potato dish). Both our steaks were cooked perfectly. The asparagus had a perfect crunch and the potatoes, wonderful - recommend that you get this side dish to compliment your meal.
I had creme brulee for dessert and my husband, salted caramel gelato. They both were excellent!! It was a good thing that we had to walk several blocks to get back to our hotel to work off some of our calories .
As usual my husband and I had lunch on Tuesday afternoon. I had the crabcakes which I absolutely love and a glass of the house cabernet and my husband had the soup of the day and the shrimp sandwich wih avocado and a glass of cabernet . We always love coming here. You have valet parking and great food and great service. Another wonderful lunch at the Bijou.
As always The Bijou never disappoints..
After 30 years of dining there, the ambiance, food and service are still 5 Star.
Thank you for another wonderful experience!!
Kerry and LuAnne Kirschner
I love to go to the Bijou every year on my birthday. The lunch special is just that - very delicious. Never disappointed.
We all love this place. But very disappointed with our last visit. My filet was incredibly undercooked. Our friends lamb was the same. Service was very rushed initially then hard to get her to return. Finally, the bathrooms were a mess with clogged toilets. Must have a been a horrible night for a usually great place.
We love this restaurants!,the food is always delicious. We will gomagain
Food was very salty
Even mentioned it to waitress,
Soup too salty
Veal too salty
Have been here many times, worst meal we have had
Food excellent in general. Major criticism is there. Was TOO MUCH OIL in the piri piri shrimp, which has a wonderful flavor which would still be there with less oil.
We had not been to Cafe Bijoi in years. Thought it was old fashioned And kind of fuddy duddy.
This experience was quite nice!
Food delicious ( trout, Tuna, lamp chops, formed salad split for two-very nice, shrimp lobster bisque).
Needs a little updating in decor.
We went for my stepmother's birthday and she loved it. The food was delicious and the service could not have been better.
As always, the Bijou Cafe is excellent. The food was wonderful, as always. Our server was very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. This is an outstanding downtown Sarasota restaurant and has been so for many years.
First time and we like very much
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary. Staff was very attentive. Food and wine were very good.
Always top notch, from the food, to the service - with the timing of the generous courses to be enjoyed leisurely but not too slow- an excellent meal!
