Great place for a special dinner. The choices are varied and plentiful and the portions are large. Cocktails are especially well done! I liked the cozy bar area and outdoor spaces as well. Reservations in high season is a MUST!
this was our second meal there on our 3 week vaction
We had wonderful service! Made the food even better!!
Ok food, subpar service. Disappointed with the food.
When did the Bijou become ordinary?
Food was not up to par. Service was disappointing and dining room was crowded and noisy.
Food average- expensive for what was served. Very old crowd-
Disappointed. I chose the crab cakes as they are supposed to be one of the signature dishes. They came out Luke warm, on a Luke warm sauce. Crab cakes were rather dull in flavor too. An interesting salad went with them. I left one on my plate. Couldn’t eat anymore. Yuck
Very elegant restaurant, great service, great food. The sauces used on vegetables were outstanding. I had the grouper special, and it was a very generous serving of grouper. The best thing were the crab cakes. I find many places in Florida serve crab cakes that are primarily filler. Not here. The crab cakes had a abundant amount of crab meat chunks. Reminded me of the crab cakes found in great seafood places by the Chesapeake Bay.
Superb pre Opera meal!
The chicken was over cooked and dry. The fish was just fair. The lamb cooped where outstanding.
It was nice, not outstanding but nice.
Lovely look but predictable menu with nothing that stands out.
Always for our Anniversary. 18 years going to Bijou and counting. We also go with friends and family. Great food and service.
Really nice atmosphere, we were sat in the front of the restaurant near a bar and a view of downtown streets. Food was really good and well portioned. I got the lamb shank and my wife got the surf and turf special, both had a lot of meat and were delicious.
Always a great choice for a classic dining experience.
Always excellent! Have a hard time choosing what to order. It’s all so good!
Wind birthday celebration!
The black grouper special was perfect as was my salad melange and glass of Bordeaux. We always find the location perfect for a before the opera dinner, as we can just walk across the street to the opera house after we eat and enjoy the show.
Lovely place to celebrate a birthday. Best lamb chops I have ever had - so lean and tender and full of flavor. Appreciated the excellent, professional service as well. Sorry I cannot recall our server’s name to recognize her. We will be back for sure.
A perfect evening. We dined at the Bijou with long time friends and enjoyed the perfect evening. The service was impeccable. The wine list is excellent. And the menu choices offered delightful choices for all - meat eater, vegetarian, pescatarian..... the mussels were fantastic. The soup special was a butternut bisque and my friend thoroughly enjoyed it. The Melange salad is a favorite and was a great way to start the dinner. Entrees were fantastic. We had such a nice time and splurged on delicious gelato. We had a leisurely dinner and lots of good conversation. We will be back.
We enjoyed Bijou Cafe for a birthday lunch in the bar area that is really a garden room. Be sure to try the trio of soups. Magnificent!
the food was very good and the server was quite good and attentive
Our first visit and we had an amazing evening with an amazing waiter. Can’t wait to come back
Awesome! As always. Best restaurant in Sarasota.
A little too noisy. Would have preferred a more out of the way table, as I thought we had requested
Always a pleasure with tasty dishes and responsive service.
The Bijou is always excellent! My friend and I both had salads which were delicious and attractive to the eye. The service was prompt and friendly and we were not rushed once we finished eating.
Another lovely experience at my favorite Sarasota restaurant. Dinner was delicious and the service impeccable. Plenty of time to sit and enjoy the ambiance until we left for a play at FST.
Thanks very much for the kind words Bara2!
Great experience! Look forward to a return visit
We were not rushed at all and all dinners were perfectly prepared and cooked. We will be back.
Celebrated my wife’s birthday here after eating here last year . For some reason the main dining room seemed dated , our meals were just average and the waitress had to do a Happy Birthday on a plate instead of the dessert.
Our waiter seemed curt and unfriendly initially but warmed up as the evening progressed. We were the only diners for about the first 30 minutes. Much too quiet and no background music. Our meals were variable. My husband’s tuna was excellent. My watermelon salad the same. However my tagliatelle entree was very thick and creamy to the point of being pasty - making it quite distasteful. Perhaps just a poor choice on my part, but not at all what I would have expected from Bijou Cafe. Our waiter, who did warm up to us eventually was gracious enough to make me an affagato upon request.
Wonderful meal, service, and atmosphere.
Only here for 5 days but may go back for another dinner.
I was so excited to go to Bijou Cafe for my birthday. I had researched the menu before we left and knew I wanted to try the Tandoori lamb. When we got there, we were immediately seated and greeted. But then that was that. No server and no service for quite some time. We finally did get water, and I ordered a martini. Unfortunately, my drink tasted like gasoline. . It was horrible, and so I sent it back. So again, we waited and waited with no order given, no bread on the table, No sign of our server. When she finally came back, we ordered. I ordered the much-anticipated Tandoori lamb, which to my surprise was actually rack of lamb. It was not tandoori spiced at all. It was delicious mind you, but I'd have never known if it was in a garlic demi-glace or anything else. Just good, tender lamb. The other food at the table was outstanding! My fellow diners had the duck baguette and the lamb shank. There wasn't an a speck left on anyone's plate! But again, our server was MIA for nearly our entire Service. But the chocolate truffles on the Happy Birthday plate at the end was a nice surprise!
Celebrating my wife birthday
Great meal and cocktails
Excellent food and service. Very nice menu. Highly recommend.
Bijou’s food and Grayson’s service were excellent as usual. Sarasota is very fortunate !!! Ed Baran
Trout had zero flavor and was mushy; duck was to be boneless, but had several chunks of bone matter and a fair amount of bread pudding as the stuffing; could have used more meat. Service and ambiance was nice; wish the food matched the atmosphere.
