Hello. We met a friend for lunch and then menu looked awesome. The place was really full and there weren’t enough servers for the restaurant crowd so service could definitely have been better and was slow. We were one of the first people there for lunch and our food for three guests didn’t come out at the same time. Also it was really loud and the food was fair. A little disappointed, because everything looks so good on the menu.
Big group, terrible service. Had a 7pm reservation, couldn’t get seated till 7:45. 8:30 still no food or water. Couldn’t handle a big group.
Good Cali-Mex food. I had trio fajitas - chicken, beef and shrimp. Spicy, but good spicy. Compares favorably to fajitas I've had at much more expensive restaurants. My wife had the bbq chicken quesadillas. She enjoyed them thoroughly. The guacamole was good, even if I had to pay $1 for a very small cup's worth. Chips and salsa cost a nominal charge, whereas at many Mex, Cali-Mex or Tex-Mex restaurants they are complimentary. The tortilla chips were okay. The salsa was very good. We would eat at Big Kahuna again if in the area.
The food was just fine. That's about all I can really rate it. The place was a very casual, hard top table atmosphere. I thought it was a little overprice for the quality. Not bad, but certainly not what I'd consider a good dinner spot on a date night. The Pacific Bar ambiance they advertise is pretty lacking, and the place feels more like a fast casual spot, but with higher prices.
For example, I got a steak burrito which came wrapped in aluminum foils (like a Chipotle or Moe's), but it was priced quite a bit higher than those places. I did enjoy having Longboard Beer on draft. Overall, it was just fine. Not good, not bad, just okay.
Great food, BIG portions....will definitely come here again.
Food was ok, but not great. Short handed on help for the group meant service was compromised. I like the menu and its variety. The draft selection was limited, but decent pics on it.
Although we had a confirmed reservation, Big Kahuna refused to seat us because they said they don’t accept Open Table reservations made on the same day. They did not apologize, and objected when we stood in the entry trying to figure out where we should go. Don’t go there, or at least don’t count on a confirmed reservation there.
The food was great, easy to get a table. The music was just a bit loud and kind of inappropriate for a restaurant (a lot of hip hop). Overall, I would still go back!! 👍🏼
Great variety of food and reasonably priced. Service was awesome.
Convenient to hotel. Good variety of food. The food we purchased was very good with very generous portions.
We were in town for a busy market when we know that most restaurants downtown require a reservation. We had an 8:45 reservation and got there about 10 minutes late due to poor directions. When we arrived, the place was empty and we were told that the kitchen was closed! It was a Friday!!!
The only good news is that the manager referred us to Gibneys in the neighborhood where we had amazing burgers and wonderful service!
We booked Big Kahuna for dinner before the Chick-Fil-A Bowl on New Year's Eve. We had a group of 10 that included kids 9-14 years of age. Even though there was no kids menu, the selection of tacos, burgers and appetizers gave the kids plenty to choose from (and they even accommodated a picky eater by making a cheese quesadilla!) . The tacos blended traditional taco fillings with unexpected creating a refreshing taste. Great beer selection, too. The service was excellent! We had planned to walk from the restaurant to the Georgia Dome (about 20 minutes by foot in 40 degree temps) but to our surprise the restaurant was offering a free shuttle to the stadium! BONUS!! We will definitely visit again.
My experience at Big Kahuna was great! The food was great and the service was great! I will be visiting again when I'm in Atlanta.
We were in Atlanta for a seminar and stayed through the weekend. It happened to be the same weekend as the SEC Championship game. We found this unique restaurant nearby. It was supposed to be closed all day for a private party but the manager graciously left it open. There was nobody sitting inside as the weather was gorgeous outside. It took a while to get our menus and drinks but we were not in any hurry. The staff was very friendly. The food was delicious and the manager made us his unique drink. We just had a fabulous time and will visit again.
Overall we had a nice lunch at Big Kahuna. Good menu and the wait staff essentially kept our beverages full until... One note...if you decide you want the "grilled" cod fish tacos, they apparently don't exist...despite what the menu says. That is what I ordered but was brought fried fish tacos. When I inquired about it, our waitress said they don't have that and that all their fish was lightly battered...huh? Anyway, I said I did not want fried food and asked for her to change it our for the grilled chicken. After sent the fried fish back, we all felt our service started to wane...
In the end the food was good but service very average...won't go back as it is out of the way and I don't consider it to have been an exceptional experience.
Its a cool place to go watch sports....food is just your average bar food...not a big deal...prices are ok for the food u get..staff was eating at the table next to ours while on break..
Had a wonderful experience at Big Kahuna. Great menu with delicious food and very reasonably priced drinks. Kudos to the wait staff. Very attentive and friendly and even made an item for us that wasn't on the lunch menu. My only complaint would be the "please seat yourself" - had to wait a bit both times we were there for a waitress to notice we had sat down. Would be better if they showed you to a table.
Looking for a great eat in Midtown (financial district) that's not outrageously priced??? Big Kahuna is on the street level of the Garden Suites at the Suntrust building (Peachtree Center). Fresh tacos with a wonderful California style. The Hummamole is a must try! It's hummus and guac (big surprise) and it's amazing. It's great for a business lunch or a casual lunch with friends. Can't wait to go back.
My kids and I went to meet my husband for lunch (who works downtown). The restaurant filled up at noon with local business people. However, they did not cater to children at all. There was no milk or children's menu that was available so my kids ended up splitting an adult entrée. The food was good and serviceable but nothing stood out about the meal.
This is the place for you if you like to wait. It took 40 minutes to get our appetizer, then another 25 to get our meal. They only had two waiters & one bartender working on a Saturday evening - our reservations were for five - & the place was only half full at best. Our waiter seemed friendly, but I think he forget to put our food order in because other tables were being served before us. The food was pretty good, just the service & wait stunk. The drinks were good, but as with everything else, took a long time to be served. They turned away several groups of people who did not have reservations and the waitress was pretty rude to those people. In all, I was shocked. This must be a popular lunch place because it was not for dinner.
I went with my boyfriend, and we sat outside. The patio is really nice, and the food was good! We waited a while for our food and we were not checked on regularly (but I think the waitress was new)--I didn't mind so much because the evening was so nice and the other staff were accommodating!
Food was hot and fresh, very good. Service was excellent and food was ready quickly. Checked it out during restaraunt week and will definitely come back. Overall feeling of the place was clean and sleek.
I work close by and we all received coupons once Big Kahuna opened. I have gone twice for lunch, and it was busy and the food was good. On July 11, 2013, I went there with 2 co-workers to celebrate a birthday. My burger, although I didn't request it, was medium well. Unfortunately, the service was not good. Whenever we asked the waitress for something, she never said, "ok, coming right up", or "sure thing", she just looked at us, then walked away. At one point, she was suppose to bring us more tortillas for our cheese dip. The cheese dip got cold and stiff. She started talking to someone at the bar. We waited, and finally had to ask her again. My friend's food was wrong, and it was like pulling teeth to correct it. I won't be back.
The menu has a lot of fresh options that set this restaurant apart from the many others located downtown. The food and service was good. It is very loud inside the restaurant. I recommend sitting in the outdoor seating if the weather is nice.
So, let me preface this with.... we went here on the night of the Final Four championship game, which was approx. 1 mile away. To say the atmosphere was crazy busy, was completely an understatement. The servers tried really hard to keep up, but the place was packed. This is a small restaurant, downtown, with a smaller menu of bar-like food. The seafood nachos were pretty good, and the burgers had amazing flavor. The place was packed, so the noise level was very, very loud - so much so, that everyone was yelling (and again not helping the noise). I can imagine that this would be a chill place to grab bar food, have a beer and watch sports on any other given day.
Great concept delicious food and margaritas!
