Went here for their Soul Food menu celebration. Usually, this restaurant's food is above average, but on this occasion, it was not. The catfish was bland and overly-breaded while my dinner companion's entree was very small and hardly filling. The dessert of sweet potato pie, which has highly-heralded by our waiter, was extremely disappointing. It was obviously not baked there as it tasted store-bought. The filling was heavy and lacked great rich flavor that would expect in a soul food, Southern entree and the crust was rubbery and difficult to cut. Despite a request for the pie to be served warm, it can out lukewarm and had to reheated. Based on these factors and above average tab, we were very underwhelmed at what we were served at Big Jones.

The theme animating Big Jones is providing old/classic/forgotten southern cuisine using as close as possible the original ingredients. Most elements are house made and there are many heirloom varieties of things you never knew were heirloomed! Service vibe seems to have gone done in the past year. But most servers are knowledgeable and can direct you to food and drink which you will enjoy. It's a bummer that the corn muffins no longer come with the meals (although they are available in the bread menu, along with 2 other options for a charge). We'll still go but we're not as excited as we used to be about it due to the atmosphere.

Big Jones is just a great spot for comfortable, casual but extremely well-thought-out, beautifully-executed food. A lot of thought goes into the menu and it shows. Servers are knowledgeable, unafraid to recommend (and wave away, which I always appreciate) and genuinely seem to enjoy working there. Kudos to Big Jones!

Sounded like a better experience than it was. Pickle tasting was marginal. Shrimp and grits were good. Would have been terrific but the shrimp were limp. Not sure we will be back.

Everything was fabulous. Especially the fried chicken. Excellent house made ginger beer. Try the cornbread too. Dessert was great. I had the bread pudding with cream cheese ice cream. It was wonderful.

We have been going to Big Jones for many years. We now travel an hour to get there and we have never had a bad meal. Everything about the place is fantastic. Keep up the good work!!

Met up with some friends for Saturday brunch and was so pleased with everything. The atmosphere was so warm and inviting. The owner (I think) greeted us and gave us great table that accommodated my injured foot. Service was quick but we never felt rushed. The meal was outstanding and we were able to linger a little while, even though it was a busy time. Excellent experience, we will be back again soon!

I was looking for something special for Christmas Eve and found it at Big Jones. The pre fixe menu had a nice variety that had something for everyone (we tried 4 of the 5 entree selections). The drink pairing was spot on and the service was attentive. I will be heading back to try the brunch soon.

Always a great culinary trip to New Orleans without leaving Chicago. We had the fix prix Christmas Eve feast. Our favorite was the duck comfit tamale. The trout was delicate with a touch of leeks in the sauce. We ali enjoyed the beet salad. Overall the meal was less rich and indulgent than the usual fare at Big Jones but it was still good. Only desert failed to please, a cake with layers of caramel, chocolate and lemon, traditional. The cake was bland and the frosting was grainy.
