Big Fish Ratings and Reviews
Our experience at dinner on Sunday night was not what it usually is at Big Fish. We love Big Fish and have eaten there and had fantastic food a multitude of times, but this time the food was terrible. Nobody was enthused at their meals when they came after quite the wait, even though it was dead in there. It was clear one meal held the rest up as 3/4 were luke warm. Fish and chips got sent back as they were burnt and lacking fish.
The waitress was quite attentive, so at least the service was at its usual level. Sad when one of your favourites lets you down.
We had such a wonderful date night here! Absolutely phenomenal food experience! Our server was so nice and wonderful throughout the service. The drink special and the food werr perfectly crafted and you could tell there was much thought behind knowing what flavours worked well together. We are returning with guests next time!
We loved our meal! I am still thinking about it and want to return as soon as possible. Service is excellent and the food quality is superb. We really enjoyed the oysters (east and west), feature tuna appetizer, crab cakes, walleye main dish and trout main dish. A perfect spot for a group of friends, a date or with colleagues.
The service was lovely and staff very friendly although it was early on a Friday evening and we were the only table. Big Fish has a very unique menu. My friend had the fish taco and the actual fish was very outpowered by the strong seasoning. I had a crab and lamb burger with cambozola cheese and mango salsa. Believe me, there is nothing at all magical about this combination of flavors and it just did not work for me. I had been looking forward to trying this restaurant for a long time and sadly, am disappointed.
We have been to Big Fish (and its neighbour Open Range owned by the same group) a number of times mostly with family. The food is good and portions generous. This time we were meeting friends having not seen each other for a number of months and with the expectation that we won't see them again for at least 4 months. So we had lots to talk about. Since we were doing a lot of chatting at the start it felt like we were getting push a bit to order but after that the service was good and I really enjoyed the baked oysters on the daily sheet. I took the easy way out or the main with fish and chips. Flavor was good but the batter perhaps a bit on the soft side though the fish was very hot and beautifully tender. It wasn't busy for a Friday which was good as we ended up staying for 2.5 hours which was the borderline for their guidelines due to their seating schedules.
Just wish they had a bit more parking. Its always a concern if you book right in prime time for dinner as the back lot was full as expected and we ended up having to park a block and a half away due to permit parking in the area.
Always an enjoyable experience. The service was excellent, the food delicious and the price reasonable. It is one of our favourite restaurants. I must mention that the mussels are the biggest and best we have ever eaten. We have them almost every time we go. This is a place that never disappoints.
Took my mother here for her Birthday. The ambience was very cozy and relaxed.
Our server Christina was wonderful. She was very attentive and even picked up on the 'birthday surprise' hint I gave her when it was time to order dessert.
The food was delicious and a great variety to choose from. Was easier able to pair wine from the delicious selection to go with my meal.
Looking forward to returning to trying more of the menu!
Thank you for the great birthday experience!
Had a great brunch! We had the curry mussels which were amazing 10/10! Then I had the soft shell crab which was beautifully prepared (bread was a tad too think and not toasted enough) but over all it was a 8/10, my friend had a non seafood brunch menu and really enjoyed it. The Ceasers were yummy as well! Would definitely come back.
The mussels where fantastic. The rest of the meal was good. Don't be fooled by the lobster and butter chicken, altough it was very tasty, the lobster did not exist or it was hard to find and taste. We told our waiter and he specified that it is flakes of lobster from the clawes. A bit disappointing knowing that I was in a seafood restaurant!! My husband had the pot au feu he said it was ok. Laking in flavor. Our waiter was great. Desert was awesome, we had the pecan pie. We had some Muscadet wine and that was lovely. All and all a good experience but we definitely prefer the sister restaurant the Open Range, right next door.
Fantastic food with wonderful service! I am visiting Calgary from the UK and I went with a friend for my 60th birthday - I wasn't disappointed!! Our waiter was courteous and informative without being intrusive. I had oysters followed by one of the day's specials: pecan and maple crusted walleye with beets on a puree of purple cauliflower and potato - a perfect combination with succulent fish. My dessert came with a sparkler in it - lovely!
We have forgotten about how good the food is here plus the best oysters in Calgary as we live in the Deep South Calgary but will definitely be making a pointe of going back more often. Loved loved our evening, the service was top notch and the chef even came by and asked how our evening was.
The food is fresh and flavourful. I had the pickerel which was cooked perfectly. It was served with the best spinach I've had in awhile. The crab cakes were great too....just a hint of spicy bite. And the dessert! Yum! Service is always great at The Big Fish. And this visit did not disappoint. The serving staff know the menu inside and out.
And the Big Fish always has great music playing!
We arrived early on Tuesday evening and had the restaurant to ourselves for the first hour which was lovely. Our server Kelly was awesome throughout the meal being very thoughtful and attentive. We shared the chef's menu with wine pairings which was delicious and interesting but not before we shared their fabulous cheese souffle with a glass of rose'. A very memorable evening indeed!
I've been to Big Fish a few times now - and have never been disappointed. We ordered mussels for a starter to share and then the salmon special. It was wonderful and I'm hoping they have it on the menu again. The warm potato salad was particularly good with feta and bacon - yum!
