Big Fish Ratings and Reviews
We have been to Big Fish (and its neighbour Open Range owned by the same group) a number of times mostly with family. The food is good and portions generous. This time we were meeting friends having not seen each other for a number of months and with the expectation that we won't see them again for at least 4 months. So we had lots to talk about. Since we were doing a lot of chatting at the start it felt like we were getting push a bit to order but after that the service was good and I really enjoyed the baked oysters on the daily sheet. I took the easy way out or the main with fish and chips. Flavor was good but the batter perhaps a bit on the soft side though the fish was very hot and beautifully tender. It wasn't busy for a Friday which was good as we ended up staying for 2.5 hours which was the borderline for their guidelines due to their seating schedules.
Just wish they had a bit more parking. Its always a concern if you book right in prime time for dinner as the back lot was full as expected and we ended up having to park a block and a half away due to permit parking in the area.
Always an enjoyable experience. The service was excellent, the food delicious and the price reasonable. It is one of our favourite restaurants. I must mention that the mussels are the biggest and best we have ever eaten. We have them almost every time we go. This is a place that never disappoints.
Took my mother here for her Birthday. The ambience was very cozy and relaxed.
Our server Christina was wonderful. She was very attentive and even picked up on the 'birthday surprise' hint I gave her when it was time to order dessert.
The food was delicious and a great variety to choose from. Was easier able to pair wine from the delicious selection to go with my meal.
Looking forward to returning to trying more of the menu!
Thank you for the great birthday experience!
Had a great brunch! We had the curry mussels which were amazing 10/10! Then I had the soft shell crab which was beautifully prepared (bread was a tad too think and not toasted enough) but over all it was a 8/10, my friend had a non seafood brunch menu and really enjoyed it. The Ceasers were yummy as well! Would definitely come back.
The mussels where fantastic. The rest of the meal was good. Don't be fooled by the lobster and butter chicken, altough it was very tasty, the lobster did not exist or it was hard to find and taste. We told our waiter and he specified that it is flakes of lobster from the clawes. A bit disappointing knowing that I was in a seafood restaurant!! My husband had the pot au feu he said it was ok. Laking in flavor. Our waiter was great. Desert was awesome, we had the pecan pie. We had some Muscadet wine and that was lovely. All and all a good experience but we definitely prefer the sister restaurant the Open Range, right next door.
Fantastic food with wonderful service! I am visiting Calgary from the UK and I went with a friend for my 60th birthday - I wasn't disappointed!! Our waiter was courteous and informative without being intrusive. I had oysters followed by one of the day's specials: pecan and maple crusted walleye with beets on a puree of purple cauliflower and potato - a perfect combination with succulent fish. My dessert came with a sparkler in it - lovely!
We have forgotten about how good the food is here plus the best oysters in Calgary as we live in the Deep South Calgary but will definitely be making a pointe of going back more often. Loved loved our evening, the service was top notch and the chef even came by and asked how our evening was.
The food is fresh and flavourful. I had the pickerel which was cooked perfectly. It was served with the best spinach I've had in awhile. The crab cakes were great too....just a hint of spicy bite. And the dessert! Yum! Service is always great at The Big Fish. And this visit did not disappoint. The serving staff know the menu inside and out.
And the Big Fish always has great music playing!
We arrived early on Tuesday evening and had the restaurant to ourselves for the first hour which was lovely. Our server Kelly was awesome throughout the meal being very thoughtful and attentive. We shared the chef's menu with wine pairings which was delicious and interesting but not before we shared their fabulous cheese souffle with a glass of rose'. A very memorable evening indeed!
I've been to Big Fish a few times now - and have never been disappointed. We ordered mussels for a starter to share and then the salmon special. It was wonderful and I'm hoping they have it on the menu again. The warm potato salad was particularly good with feta and bacon - yum!
Make sure you try the Manitoba walleye. I had it on Monday night and it's Thursday now and I am still thinking about. Had it with a nice glass of Rose. Perfect meal!
As I have a shellfish allergy, I tend to avoid seafood restaurants, but I felt very confident at Big Fish. The waitress took extra care to accommodate my allergy.
We live about 40 km from this restaurant, but we are already planning our next visit.
My husband and I have visited Big Fish before a very long time ago for dinner and I remembered we both enjoyed it. So for my birthday this year, I decided to revisit the restaurant to see if it was still as good as we remembered.
When we arrived we were seated promptly and did not have to wait long. The restaurant was busy and there was still a few tables available for walk in (which you don't see very often).
My husband ordered the bison pulled pork and I ordered the bison burger. Both were fairly good! We really enjoyed our meals at Big Fish. Our waiter (Andy) was attentive and checked up on us often. Our drinks were also refilled without us having to ask. The prices were reasonable and portions were decent. Our only complaint was the food took a bit longer than expected. We waited about half an hour for our food to arrive. But other than that, everything else was top notch and we wouldn't hesitate to return for brunch again!
I went to Big Fish based on the reviews from previous patrons and I am so happy that I went! The food was amazing and so tasty, the atmosphere was fun and lively, and our waiter was so friendly! I would definitely recommend this restaurant especially for seafood lovers.
