Big Chow Grill Ratings and Reviews
Tasty food based on your own seasoning that you’re able to add...loved the variety of rice and different noodles. Also loved the variety of protein like chicken, beef, fish, shrimp, and calamari. Based on the rice, etc bowl and the tiny bowl for meat, etc., the amount of food looks sparse but once stir fried, you end up with a really good sized white bowl. Very filling! My only peeve was that an employee kept trying to clean around the containers that held all of the ingredients that customers were trying to dip into. She was getting in the way and slowing down the line. Other than that, loved the food and we’ll be back since my son loves the concept of picking his own food😀👍🏾
I am Disgusted. Went with my family for my birthday I did not receive my food At All..... Anna the manager on duty who Needs to be FIRED!! Does not communicate properly. I WAITED 2 F@#%$ HOURS for my food to arrive. I am still waiting for my food. I was literally disappointed, all she had to say was that the kitchen mixed up my food and for me to remake my bowl. She kept saying " your food would be out soon" . The disappointment was so real.
Good as always. We made reservations for 5:30 on a Thursday evening because we had tickets for a 7 p.m. show at the Cobb Energy Center. I usually go here for lunch and it is almost always packed. Did not need reservations for that early - at least during the week. Upside was that it was nice and quiet for conversation and no lines for the food. Can't think of a downside. The crowd had started picking up when we left. Note - put at least twice the amount of sauce on your food as you think you need.
We arrived right at 11am, best time so far, by 1130 you couldn't hear yourself think almost every table was filled great lunch spot!!! Service is great out waitress (Alissa I believe) was great didn't rush us and came around just often enough. The place was packed by the time we asked for our check, she was busy but cashed us out in a timely manner. I love this place it's my husbands and I's go to day date place.
My boyfriend and I were in Smyrna to attend a seminar and I wanted to surprise him with a vegetarian spot. My Google search suggested this restaurant. I'm glad I followed the suggestion,
the food was great. This restaurant reminded me of the old "Chow Baby" that was on Ponce.
My Boo was delighted also because is pallet was tantalized with all of the veggie the selections too. The best part was it was all you can eat!!!
I made reservations thru "Open Table' which was not necessary on our Thursday night visit.
I will go again and will recommend this to everyone!
It took over 40 minutes to bring out the food. And, there were times when we could see that nothing was on the grill. During the wait, the background was noisy and frenetic. The manager on duty did what she could to expedite matters and even gave us a credit on our bill. It’s too bad because the food was good.
Food was okay....but didn't "wow" me. Having the guests pick their own veggies was fine, however, didn't like the same set up for the raw meats. Didn't seem safe/sanitary.
Restaurant music was way too loud...had to almost scream to have a conversation at the table as a result. Staff was friendly. Convenient spot to go prior to attending an event at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center.
We have eaten at Big Chow multiple times in the past and it has been very good but unfortunately our recent experience has caused me to provide a very lackluster review.
Our issues stemmed from the cook staff mixing up the meat in the different bowls and not cooking one of our guests' food until everyone else at the table had received theirs and finished. We even alerted the server to it who really did nothing to escalate the issue with the cook staff to get them to prioritize the bowl.
After multiple positive trips we more than likely won't be eating here again as it seems as though the overall management and service provided has dramatically declined.
Food was excellent for several reasons: wide selection of vegetables, pastas, sauces, and spices; they cook your choices as stir fry, coconut soup, wraps, and/or salad; and you control the taste and spiciness. Great ambiance, but noise level can become too loud. Overall, it's a great food experience.
Big Chow Grill lets you pick your own items to be stir-fried. You choose the starches, the vegetables, the sauces, the protein, and the spices (although they recommend going light on those, and with good reason). The staff fries, or grills, or wraps, or turns it all into soup, and you're eating well for at least two hours. And did I mention it's all you can eat?
What's not to love about food you're mostly in control of?
You select noodles, or rice and all veggies in one bowl, and meats and fish in another. A nice selection of sauces. Once the food is cooked it is brought to your table. Server checked on us once, but never refilled our water or drinks. Food itself cooked well and served hot.
We arrived spot on time, but the restaurant didn't seem to be geared toward reservations even after we told them we had a reservation. The bowl building area was very unkempt and several items were empty. The placing of meat in a tiny separate bowl seemed an obvious attempt to limit higher cost ingredients. The area where bowls are dropped off to be cooked was unmonitored and very messy/dirty/unsanitary. Even though my wife and I dropped our bowls off at the same time, hers was delivered 10 minutes before mine. Food taste was fine. All in all very disappointing.
We selected the Big Chow Grill for our valentine's day dinner as most restaurants featured on open table are very nice and of high quality. BCG is the exception. First we had no idea that the restaurant was in a largely defunct mall. Since the basic concept is to pick out your ingredients and have them grilled for you, the fact that it might not be a good idea to have raw chicken and beef sitting out was probably overlooked. I saw a kid handling noodles with her bare hands in the buffet style line that you stand in to pick out your ingredients. Both my husband and I had "bathroom issues" later that evening. Overall, the concept is a good idea but the reality of it is a lot of people with dirty hands handling serving spoons and raw meat. Just go to a regular restaurant and skip the sick stomach.
We enjoyed our birthday celebration at Big Chow Grill - both the food and the environment. The experience itself is interesting and the food is fixed exactly as you like it since you choose all of the items for your bowl. We will definitely choose this as a family meeting place again in the near future as well as eat there when convenient as a couple.
My family and I have been to Big Chow several times and always truly enjoy it. This time I took my small group and they were amazed at such a place. They enjoyed picking out what they like and felt it was a good value. Each of them said they would be bringing their family back.
