About Big Bowl-Reston
There’s really only one place for authentic Chinese and Thai, and that's Big Bowl. It all begins with the highest quality ingredients–naturally raised chicken and beef, heirloom pork, sustainable seafood and produce grown locally. Because Big Bowl believes that the best food is made from scratch, you can taste big, bold layers of flavors in every dish, from the curries right down to the dipping sauces.
Everyone raves about the pad Thai, our spicy dishes that are truly hot, and our create-your-own stir-fry–and for good reason. Every element adds up to big taste and takes our food to another level, be it a fresh squeeze of lime, fragrant herbs or the seared Thai chilies.
Big Bowl is so big on authentic flavors that even the ginger ale is made with fresh ginger root–from scratch, of course.

Big Bowl-Reston Ratings and Reviews
Came here to celebrate my birthday and had a terrific meal. I love the stir fry bar with the Kung Pao sauce; I thought there was just the right amount, not too much, not too little. My wife got the orange chicken, which was pretty good, although I think it was a little heavy on the sauce. (We'll just add some more rice and chicken to the leftovers.)
I've been here several times before for business lunches and plan to return.
Waitress was fabulous. She has been there a while and takes her time with all of her customers.
The only complaint was the temperature. When we got there I could feel the restaurant was really hot. After voicing my complaints to a waiter, I noticed it started to cool down. I also noticed the side door was opened when we arrived. I am sure the cool air was escaping through that door.
I am a regular at Big Bowl and it used top be amazing place to have Thai food but from last few visits I am feeling that Big Bowl has lost its quality, its like going to any regular make your own bowl restaurant. I was very disappointed, food was bland and had to request sauce but still it didn't came out well.
Will surely give this restaurant a miss for few months.
My only complaint is the drink prices. I ordered a bourbon on the rocks. At first glance I thought the server brought a small glass of ice water but it was bourbon. $12.50 and could hardly taste the bourbon. In my opinion not worth the price. Stick with the food and beer.
After two times dining (lunch & dinner) we have a good but not a great impression.
POSITIVE: ambiance is nice and cozy, service was nice and attentive, appetizers are tasty and plentiful, complimentary cucumber salad that we received at lunch but didn't receive at dinner was yummy, the drinks (Sangria, cocktail and beer) were were very good.
NEGATIVE: The taste of entrees in both visits were very bland and mediocre. The choice of desserts was limited full of fats and calories even from the mere look at the samples and average. The fruity flavors are limited to banana and mango blended somewhere in the cheesecake. Definitely not inspired us to order (even though we did have a room for some sweet ending).
CONCLUSION: Maybe worth to return if in the area for a lunch meal tapas style consisting just appetizers and drinks.
The food is always delicious at Big Bowl - today is was the stir fry bar. Nothing like made to order stir fry! Steaming hot and cooked just right to seal in the flavor. Today's service was exceptional, as well. Scott was attentive, personable and professional - really appreciated the good attitude. His bar and dessert recommendations was on target. Overall a outstanding dining experience. Thanks, BB.
Made a late afternoon reservation for 8 pm, asking we be seated in a booth in the back of the restaurant. Our table was perfect, our waiter was very personable, professional and capable (wish I'd gotten his name), our food was delivered by the Chef and it was served piping hot which I love and it was delicious! We both ordered the make your own stir fry. Fabulous meal! Big Bowl is always consistent in that regard if you get the stir fry. I can't speak to the other items on the menu since we always do stir fry but I'm sure they're good too.
Big Bowl is always a pleasure to eat at. We had requested an outside table and they had one waiting for us. We had the Mongolian Beef and the Pagan Curry Chicken. You can always test the fresh ingredients. The staff was very present and provided some good suggestions for dessert.
The food is always worth the trip. We always go at "off-hours" because otherwise the noise level can be pretty high. During the day the parking situation is awful. Reston Town Center has instituted a very frustrating parking situation, but after 5 the parking is free, just like the good old days.
Despite the outside temperature being 96 degrees, Big Bowl had their doors and windows open to get access to outdoor seating. The air conditioning was not on. We had reservations, and when we got there we immediately said we would go elsewhere. They then said they would shut the doors and windows and turn the AC on. However, it didn't really cool down until after our meal was over. We should have left right away and gone to Jackson's -- great AC and great food. THe food was OK -- we had 6 people -- and ordered their 3 appetizer and 3 entre option for $23 per person. It wasn't enough food and we ended up ordering another entre. I don't think its a good deal at all. Better to order from the menu.
We love this place and look forward to eating there every time we visit my soon at school. The vegetables are always fresh and there are many different and unique choices. The sauces ops with flavor and can be tailored to any taste. I wish we had one near Philly..we'd go all of the time
