Big Al's Oyster Bar @ The Orleans Ratings and Reviews
First I have frequented this place for quite a while. The food is really amazing. However taking my wife there on Valentine’s Day for oysters salmon and other’s, we as always had an amazing experience with the manager on duty. She is always amazing. Our issue on Valentine’s Day which has sealed the deal not to return was While eating the bread where they have the oil and vinegar mixture we were indulging in it. My wife pointed and asked what is that? How did the vinegar bottle were fruit flies so God knows how many pieces were consumed. The failure was that there was absolutely zero guest recovery attempt when brought to managements attention. Very sad because it makes you wonder as a manager I would have been in shock. That makes me feel that despite of my previous visits this is a norm
We were transferred from the California Hotel to Orleans due to a water problem??? My wife wasn't very happy as she prefers staying at the "Cal" since it is so convenient to visit other casinos , restaurants and viewing the Fremont show. I was hungry for some fresh seafood and remembered the fine seafood we ate here a few years ago, especially the clam chowder, clams and oysters on a half shell and the wonderful seafood salad. Mrs ordered soup and salad, daughter shrimp scampi w/pasta, and I ordered the pound of king crab ($29). Well, I was disappointed since the crab was split lengthwise, was dry and very difficult to eat...the clam chowder though was delicious. Mrs enjoyed the soup as well, but the bread on the sandwich was hard and tasteless, same with the shrimp. Sometimes it's best to order the same item you enjoyed in the past rather than try something new. New time (?) I order the chowder, oysters/clams on a half shell and the seafood salad.
An accident happened (a server accidentally dropped the soup on us, two people were slightly injured, and food splashed on the clothes ), but the restaurant manager did not handle it well. Showed up 15 mins after the incident and she offered us subtract two soups on the bill, we feel insulted.
At the end , casino shift manager came over to improve the handling of this incident.
In my opinion, they have the best oysters in Las Vegas. The clam chowder is also terrific and if you like seafood gumbo it is fantastic but be prepared to take some home because the amount of gumbo is too much for me to eat at one sitting. They also have fresh salads that are large, the service is fantastic and all the employees are friendly. Our waitress Gariella was friendly and attentive. Manager Lisa Kray was pleasant as she helped her employees provide service to all all the patrons. Eat there regularly. Will continue to do so.
I was a little hesitant to go to an Oyster Bar in the desert, since it is quite some distance to water where oysters (or any fresh seafood) come from. This restaurant is in the middle of the Orleans Hotel and Casino, therefore the open plan (no walls between smokey/loud casino) was not very conducive to peaceful eating or business discussions.
We didn't really have a great experience . We made a reservation and showed up 5 minutes before our reservation time just so we we're not late. There is a little desk in the front with one person helping we're you check in and people we're payingso it was a little crowded and confusing. Anyway we checked on and sat down. He was a very nice gentalman. A waitress can over and took our drinks she was also very nice and bubbly. A different waitress came over and took our order. She was not as nice. She had a bit of an attitude, didn't really answer questions about the menu, and kept rushing us. Well we finally ordered . Our food didn't come out at the same time 35 min before my daughters food came out 15 min later my wife's food 10 min later my food came out. Keep in mind me and my wife ordered the exact same thing. We I did not like my food and asked to send it back and order something else. The waitress kept asking what was wrong with the food, I should just eat it, and try it with pasta instead of rice. Well the point was I did not like the sauce so switching to pasta really wasn't going to make a difference. She buffed and took the food and I ordered a salad. The there was plastic in my daughters food. We asked to speak to the manager. He came over we told him what happened gave him the plastic and he went to the kitchen. He came back with more plastic and told us it was probably the crab that was wrapped in the plastic there probably wasn't washed off good and said at least it wasn't dangerous. Are you kidding me possibly and swallowed is dangerous this was not a small piece of plastic. He did comp my daughter's meal. Needless to say we will not be back to this restaurant.
When I'm in Vegas I always find time to visit Big Al's Oyster Bar. The food is always excellent and is reasonably priced. The salmon and the shrimp and scallop rosa are 2 of my favorites. Special recognition should be given to their servers who are always pleasant and attentive. Mercedes, Abbey and Manny are excellent and are quick to service your every needs. You won't be disappointed giving Big Al's a try.
Service was great! Manager was great! For a Cajun/Creole food lover it wasn't what I expected. I would have to go somewhere else for real Cajun. The portions are big . Would recommend sharing and ordering more if still hungry. Recommend Gumbo and Shrimp Po-boy. Good recommendation if seeing a show and want to eat before the show! They surprised my Mom with Cheesecake and song for her Birthday too!
Service wasn't great - oysters came before the beers, as did the entrée. Tip: Sit at the bar if you can stand the smell of the steam burners and the pre-made roux they make their dishes with - you will get better service. Oysters were decent. Clam chowder was luke warm. Fish on my wife's salmon Caesar was excellent. Perhaps the grilled fish options are best here.
