Big Al's Oyster Bar @ The Orleans Ratings and Reviews
In my opinion, they have the best oysters in Las Vegas. The clam chowder is also terrific and if you like seafood gumbo it is fantastic but be prepared to take some home because the amount of gumbo is too much for me to eat at one sitting. They also have fresh salads that are large, the service is fantastic and all the employees are friendly. Our waitress Gariella was friendly and attentive. Manager Lisa Kray was pleasant as she helped her employees provide service to all all the patrons. Eat there regularly. Will continue to do so.
I was a little hesitant to go to an Oyster Bar in the desert, since it is quite some distance to water where oysters (or any fresh seafood) come from. This restaurant is in the middle of the Orleans Hotel and Casino, therefore the open plan (no walls between smokey/loud casino) was not very conducive to peaceful eating or business discussions.
We didn't really have a great experience . We made a reservation and showed up 5 minutes before our reservation time just so we we're not late. There is a little desk in the front with one person helping we're you check in and people we're payingso it was a little crowded and confusing. Anyway we checked on and sat down. He was a very nice gentalman. A waitress can over and took our drinks she was also very nice and bubbly. A different waitress came over and took our order. She was not as nice. She had a bit of an attitude, didn't really answer questions about the menu, and kept rushing us. Well we finally ordered . Our food didn't come out at the same time 35 min before my daughters food came out 15 min later my wife's food 10 min later my food came out. Keep in mind me and my wife ordered the exact same thing. We I did not like my food and asked to send it back and order something else. The waitress kept asking what was wrong with the food, I should just eat it, and try it with pasta instead of rice. Well the point was I did not like the sauce so switching to pasta really wasn't going to make a difference. She buffed and took the food and I ordered a salad. The there was plastic in my daughters food. We asked to speak to the manager. He came over we told him what happened gave him the plastic and he went to the kitchen. He came back with more plastic and told us it was probably the crab that was wrapped in the plastic there probably wasn't washed off good and said at least it wasn't dangerous. Are you kidding me possibly and swallowed is dangerous this was not a small piece of plastic. He did comp my daughter's meal. Needless to say we will not be back to this restaurant.
When I'm in Vegas I always find time to visit Big Al's Oyster Bar. The food is always excellent and is reasonably priced. The salmon and the shrimp and scallop rosa are 2 of my favorites. Special recognition should be given to their servers who are always pleasant and attentive. Mercedes, Abbey and Manny are excellent and are quick to service your every needs. You won't be disappointed giving Big Al's a try.
Service was great! Manager was great! For a Cajun/Creole food lover it wasn't what I expected. I would have to go somewhere else for real Cajun. The portions are big . Would recommend sharing and ordering more if still hungry. Recommend Gumbo and Shrimp Po-boy. Good recommendation if seeing a show and want to eat before the show! They surprised my Mom with Cheesecake and song for her Birthday too!
Service wasn't great - oysters came before the beers, as did the entrée. Tip: Sit at the bar if you can stand the smell of the steam burners and the pre-made roux they make their dishes with - you will get better service. Oysters were decent. Clam chowder was luke warm. Fish on my wife's salmon Caesar was excellent. Perhaps the grilled fish options are best here.
The place was clean and we were seated right away (off peak time at 3:30). Our meals were given to us at separate times instead of all at once. I ordered the crab cake appetizer and couldn't eat it as it was mostly breading and not even spicy, tasty breading. I also had the clam chowder which was good but a little on the salty side and the Bloody Mary I ordered was light on the alcohol but they did make it spicy like I asked.
Service wasn't great. We were tossed our drinks and food and ignored. We were also seated on the back (DO NOT SIT IN THE BACK) where they seat their large parties. So, there we were, a party of 3 surrounded by THREE large, loud groups. Waitstaff and guests coming back and forth. We also sat next to a man who had had quite a few drinks and felt the need to talk to us during our meal.
We had reservations and should have been seated at a booth or asked if we'd like to wait if one wasn't available (which there was). So ask for a booth if you are 4 or less.
This was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. At least in the Top Ten worst ever. Food was horrible. Service was crappy. I should have refuse to pay for this bad experience although I did and grudgingly gave a 15% gratuity. We are at the Orleans at least once a week but this place will never get any more of my money ever again
Food was great - however being asked "is that everything" and then handed a bill while we were only partway through our meals, was odd and felt like we were being rushed out. There was still plenty of seating available at that time, so not sure why our waitress basically asked us to leave.
It's an oyster bar; so you'd expect the oysters to be good. They were great! But raw clams? They were even better! Wow! Fresh horseradish was served with the cocktail sauce; it will clear your sinuses, so get extra napkins. All portions are large, so don't over-order. Just plan on going back; the food is that good!
The only strange thing is that to pay, you go back to the entrance and stand in the make a reservation line; weird. P.S., do make a reservation on weekends.
Made a reservation through Open table, but the manager gave our table up to a group in front of us even though we got there on time. So, we had to wait for them to set up a table special for us. Then we waited over 50 minutes for our food to arrive after we placed our order. The manager there is very disorganized. The host was very courteous and did a great job at keeping things together. Our waitress did her best trying to work with the kitchen and how things were coming out. Her service was great.
