Biff's Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Very slow service even though the restaurant was not too busy.
Our waiter was not attentive at all. I had to go and look for him several times to place orders or make other requests. The food was good. I personally wouldn't go there again. There are many other restaurants with much better service and food.
I and family members have tried this restaurant multiple times and keep wanting to give it another chance because it is in our neighbourhood and the food is quite good. However, after our latest visit, I will not go again. Biff's kitchen is very good, but the structure, training, and practice of their front of house staff mean that the service is too poor for the price point—water glasses go unfilled, silverware does not get changed, servers take forever to return to the table—and this leads to serious issues like the food literally arriving at one's table lukewarm. Even really good food cannot make up for this, particularly if the entree price point is $38 (my latest entree). I do not mind eating at this price point or I would not be there, but not food that is lukewarm. On my last visit, I wondered if the corporation that runs this and many other restaurants may not be willing to invest in enough training and staffing to strongly staff this restaurant in a way that consistently produces service on a par with the food. For e.g. it has not been clear to me on recent visits if they consistently deploy basic high-end service positions like food runners and staff to bus tables, and if they do there are not enough of them on the floor, or they are not trained to use their time expeditiously. Whatever the reasons, I'm sorry to say that I'm giving up on this expensive resto where the mediocre and at times bad service seriously jettisons the entire dining experience.
Went here for mine and my wife's 3year anniversary. We actually celebrated it at biffs 3 years prior. when i called in to book the hostess told me she will make it very romantic, candle light, the whole nine yards. I get a call the day of to confirm reservation, the hostess says " oh sir it looks like its your anniversary we will make it very special for you" I was very pleased. I get to the restaurant, we eat, everything is fantastic food wise. but no "special" or romantic anything. I was quite displeased especially because 2 separate hostesses promised to make it a very special dinner. this dinner was the same as any dinner I've had there. nothing special about it. server was great food was great, but don't promise me "special" or "romantic" if nothing is going to be done.
It was my first time eating at Biff’s. Renown as a French Bistro I anticipated that the food would be quite good, and it was. Very. However the experience was severely tainted by the waiter my friend and I had. He was over eager to the point of irritating. We had barely gotten to our table and had not taken our coats off yet when our server was there asking if he could get us beverages. We had not had a chance to see a wine list or anything so we just said regular water just so he would leave so we could settle in. Then less than a few minutes later he showed up with the water and is asking if we are ready to order and if we were celebrating a special occasion, to which I said we weren’t; just a dinner get together with a friend. We could tell he was going to be rushing us all night and we didn’t appreciate it. As I had a very similar experince with a server at another O&B restaurant recently, I politely told our server that my friend and I wanted to have a leisurely dinner and catch up and that we would appreciate just settling in for a bit with our drink order before ordering our meal. He seemed notably miffed at that and gave us “pleasant attitude” (passive aggressive) for the remainder of our stay. He even went so far to inquire near the end of our meal WHY my friend and I had not seen each other for so long! Why is that his business? We were so taken aback, but it got worse. When we asked for our bill at the end of our dessert, he said he hoped he wouldn’t see us again for several months. I’m not kidding. He might as well of said I hope to never see two again, same thing. Other unpleasantries occurred, but suffice it to say I would not recommend this restaurant to a friend because the service was so off-putting that even the deliciousness of the meal couldn’t compensate. I don’t know if it’s the training of O&B restaurant staff as the reason for this right-on-top of you, pressurized service, as I had similar experiences before at O&B. Shame.
Went for winterlicous. Food was decent, but very small portions. Brought us water in a glass jug then charged 6 dollars for water without telling us it wasn’t free. We didn’t even drink the water. That kind of ruined the whole dinner. Service was quick and friendly but very low value in coming to this restaurant.
I entered the restaurant and the lighting was nice. I had requested in my opentable reservation to have a more private, quiet seating for 2 as I didn't want it to be too loud or too close to others while I was enjoying my meal. When I went to the host, I was ready to be seated. The male was going to seat me, however, a woman with brown hair and her hair half up swooped in and told him "not to do that again". She looked a bit old. I sensed it was the seating. She told him to take me to table 5. (My reservation was at 6:30 pm on Feb 3). I went there and I was seated between 2 tables, 1 a couple and then the other eventually a group of 8 people. This was not what I was expecting as I saw plenty of other 2 toppers that didn't need to be squished around other people. I was not impressed that the lady made this decision despite my request to be in a more quiet and private seating. However, our waiter was super awesome, nice, attentive, and knew his food. He helped me choose my meals and I felt that I didn't have to wait too long. Being squished between 2 tables, I eventually had to raise my voice to hear my friend. She had to as well. My only advice is, if you had the option of putting me in any other seats, and I requested a more private seat, which I saw in the other side of the room (not the booth area), why did you seat me squished between 2 tables, knowing the other table was going to be a group of 8 people shouting?
Choosing Biff’s for a birthday celebration during Winterlicious was perfect! Staff attentive,
Cocktails fun & a Spanish beer contest! Perch & Tortiere mains were delicious but the highlight was their take on creme brule - amazing! The portions were more than generous so come hungry!
This was a Winterlicious discovery. I always wonder, during Winterlicious, if the restaurant will put on a good show (isn't Winterlicious a marketing opportunity? doesn't it make sense to do it well?) or if they'll do as so many restaurants do and pass off a mediocre meal. Well, Biff et al are on the good side. The goat cheese croquette was over-breaded but on the whole the starter was good. The blue cheese burger was very good. I thought the oil that the chips were done in might be rancid but my friend gobbled them up, so perhaps it was just me. The chocolate cake was da bomb! Wine, service, ambience - all good. I'm pleased enough to go back and pay full fare, willingly. Mission accomplished.
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we had a great first-time experience. The staff was very friendly, we had a main server and a server from the bar, both very patient with our menu questions and constantly checking in. We loved everything we ordered and all the options in the menu sounded delicious, I should mention we went during Winterlious, which let us experience some of the great options from their menu. We would definitely come back and recommend to friends and family. Bonus for those driving from GTA, lots of street parking options during the week.
Wonderful experience though to be honest I discovered this place a good while back. I took a small group of staff there for lunch during Winterlicious.
Rave reviews all way round certainly from ambience, service to food and delivery of same.
Our host was Michael and he was very attentive.
Hidden gem for sure :)
My husband and I have been going to Winterlicious for 4 years and this year was another spectacular restaurant! We chose this place based on the french cuisine and it did not dissapoint! I loved the truffle mushroom salad and our waitress was so nice and explained all the menu items so well. I would highly recommend to everyone!
All in all, not a great experience. My husband and I went to dinner with some friends, both of whom had to work until 9:30 so we had to take a 10pm reservation. We never get to go out together as we both work in the industry (and hardly ever on a Saturday night.) Yes, it was Winterlicious but we made a point of ordering oysters, cocktails and wine. I know what Winterlicious can be like and wanted to let the server know we would make it worth their while. Sadly though, our server was not the most pleasant. We felt rushed with food (oysters came in good timing but then our appetizers hit the table seconds later). When our server came to take our wine glasses away, I said that I would like to order a bottle and he replied with a sarcastic “oh great!” (Which I took as - great you’re going to be here even longer) I felt as if he were being condescending towards us. Maybe he wasn’t but that’s the vibe I got. I work in the industry as well. I bartend and serve in a similar type of establishment and would never treat guests the way I felt we were treated even if I was annoyed at having a late reservation. Food was just ok. Mains were good enough but the apps and the desserts were sub par. When our server came to check how our appetizers were he walked away without giving my husband a chance to mention his disappointment in their “mushroom truffle” salad which looked like it came out of a bag and had what looked like two slivers of button mushroom. I don’t know where the truffle came in. I had the croquette which was basically a glorified cheese stick. Dessert was ..meh. Left most of it behind. Don’t get the chocolate cake. Our server left half way through and we were taken over by another server who seemed to care more. We still left 20% even though I don’t think he deserved it but we figured that they pool tips so we didn’t want to stiff the other staff. The experience was disappointing, based on other reviews and I don’t think we will be returning.
Came to Biff's for Winterlicious. Really enjoyed the restaurant decor and the ability to choose from various locations to sit. We chose the lounge. Our server was very pleasant and made sure we were happy and had everything we needed. The food was great, very well prepared and nicely presented. Would come here again for their regular menu.
My family of three tried Biff's Bistro for the first time during Wintelicious event. Restaurant setting is great, interior is very nice decorated, service was very good and food was delicious - we have intentionally chosen 3 different appetizers, main courses and deserts so that we can share and everything was absolutely great! We are definitely coming back!
Biffs has a great location, excellent service and a well chosen wine list. I had the Winterlicious menu and chose the Tri-Tip steak which was cooked to perfection and had truffled cauliflower as a garnish. The steak (and the truffled cauliflower) tasted great, but it was tough to chew.
