Biff's Bistro Ratings and Reviews
The food quality and the service were both very good; the prix fixe was good value.
However, the meal and overall experience were overwhelmed by the noise level (both the ambient room noise, but especially from an adjoining table) - made any conversation almost impossible.
A little bit overpriced for the quality of the food. The menu looks somewhat inventive but the execution is not very great, at least it was for us. We ordered the frog legs, as we generally like those, but they very extremely bland and tasteless and overcooked. It was quite disappointing. The rest of the food we had was ok, but not at all great or special. The cocktails were good, the service was excellent, but the food was just expensive for the quality. You can have a much better experiences somewhere else nearby, likely for much less money.
Originally booked for four but had two extra people join us last minute. We informed the hostess of this and she wasn't too pleased with us; she gave us a bit of the cold shoulder. While I understand why, we feel she could have handled it better. This kind of marred an otherwise great experience. The rest of the staff were very friendly and hospitable; the server in particular was collected yet charismatic. The French onion soup du jour, the Syrah wine, and Devil's chocolate ice cream were divine; the beef bourguignon main dish was underwhelming.
It was a 4-star experience overall and I would come back. I would try a different main next time.
I brought several out-of-town colleagues to Biff's and it was a serious mistake. I ordered the trout and it arrived in a bowl containing a green brothy mixture that had very little flavour. The fish was nicely cooked but it sat on a bed of sparse vegetables, one of which were canned artichokes. Nothing like a chewy artichoke with the consistency of plastic to destroy the flavour of a delicate piece of trout. My appetizer was over salty french onion. The bread was fantastic, but if that's all you can rave about when paying through the teeth for a meal, something has gone off the rails. Three of my colleagues ordered steaks, all of which were barely warm when they arrived. One ordered duck and it looked more like pulled pork when she was done with it as she had to shred the meat to get it off the bone with the butter knife that she'd been provided with. Sorry Biff, but you bombed this time.
food was even better than i remembered which is always a nice surprise. everything was really yummy but the one dish that stood out for me was the calf's liver, it was excellent. one down point for me was i remembered them having the $1 oysters which they now only have on a Tuesday, which is ok i'll just come back on a Tuesday next time. our server was friendly and took great care of us. overall was a great experience.
Ambience = crowded, tables too close together, big, noisy, not much French bistro character.
Service = good (thank you Michael).
Food = 50 / 50, beef bourguignon was good, lamb shank goulash was overcooked, dry.
Wine = good selection of by-the-glass wines, but pricey.
Overall = bit of a "get 'em in and get 'em out" feel, not good value for money, a 6 posing as a 9.
Came to Biff's Bistro for my fiancé's birthday. From the moment we walked into the door, we felt welcomed. The food was fantastic, we shared the Escargots en persillade as an appetizer. The escargot were very tender and the sauce was great as a spread on the grilled focaccia. We had the Moules frites and the Wild mushroom dauphinoise as our entree. The dauphinoise was very creamy and the mushrooms had a meaty texture and a roasted flavour. The mussels in the moules frites were quite tender as well. We even had a surprise from our waitress with cookies and a happy birthday message. Definitely made the night special and we will definitely come back again!
It was our 5 year anniversary and I mentioned that on my reservation and they definitely went above and beyond to make this occasion very memorable. Not only was the food amazing and the service was impeccable but at the end they surprised us with desert (eclair made from scratch) that wasn’t even in the menu anymore. It was served in a wooden platter (wood is the symbol for 5 years of marriage) and a glass of champagne each. We had an amazing time and I definitely recommend Biff’s Bistro to anyone that wants to enjoy great food with great company.
The food was very good, the service was excellent. The price...Easily the most expensive meal I have ever had. ($160 + Tip for 2 of us)
It was good, not sure it was THAT good. but was out for a good night and a good night was had.
P.S. I think it was probably the BEST mushroom soup I have ever tasted.
Had a decent meal, only downside was a side order of mushrooms did not arrive with the meal. After 3 follow ups, I finally gave up and told them to kill the order as it was still unavailable. It then showed up on the bill and I needed to correct it. No offer was made to make up for this error.
I was most impressed with the service. We were late for our reservation due to traffic and road construction. When we called to let the hostess know, she was so understanding. She held our reservation for us, not knowing that we were on the road for 2 hours already. In the end we were only 10 minutes late. As for the food, use of fresh ingredients were evident. Ambience was lively but not too loud for conversing. Servers were polite yet personable. Excellent overall.
This is one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto and it is my favourite O&B restaurant. I have been going to this restaurant for years and I am so glad that the foie gras and Beef Bourguignon is always on the menu. The food is excellent and never a disappointment. It is my choice for special occasion dinners.
It is not for me to say but the three of us gals couldn't really find anything on the menu that appealed to us. They both ordered the trout and didn't finish it. I had a green salad and fries. Every item on the menu had something unappetizing in it thus our choices were few. However the ambiance is great and the service excellent
This is my second time at Biff's, and it gets better each time. I got to try the liver this time, and found it flavourful and mashed potatoes it came with were creamy and perfect. Food here is an experience, and the wait staff perform well above average. I would highly recommend this restaurant for some of the best French cuisine in town.
