As always the surf and turf was perfect. I liked the old version of the beet salad but oh well. Pot du creme was a nice finish. Great views.
We went on a Thursday, 5:30, group of five people. We had reservations and were seated very quickly. The view we had was amazing and not many other customers were there. (Which was great!) Our waitress was Judy. She took FOREVER! Getting our drink orders, bringing our drinks, refilling them, (I EVEN HAD TO GET UP AND REFILL OUR OWN WATER GLASSES.). We got a complimentary plate of bread, which was delicious, but since there were five of us, we barely got a small taste. We asked for more (once she eventually came back to check on us) and never were brought another plate. Our food took longer than expected. Two people had ordered pastas with seafood. They must had been sitting under the food heating lamp for a while because there was a thick film on top where the sauce and pasta got dry and firm. Someone else ordered Salmon (I think), it came out with "unforbidden rice". We asked Judy what it was when ordering but she couldn't explain it since she didn't know. It tasted delicious. But we joked about it being called "unforbidden" because you barely get a small serving. When it was time to pay , Judy had a hard time understanding that we wanted part of it charged to the room. It took multiple conversations to do that. But the restaurant is beautiful. Great atmosphere. I will be returning but most likely only for drinks. I have ate here a few times in the past and would have rated it five stars before yesterday. On our way to leave we saw the manager and told him about our meal. He didn't seem surprised. He didn't ask if he could do anything to make it better. That's what really disappointed me. They had a chance to make our experience better and chose not too. I expect better from a formal restaurant.
Service was very good. Lovely views. My wife's steak was so tough she had difficulty cutting it.
Also not medium rare as ordered. My filet was small and slightly overcooked, but OK. My wife's mashed potatoes were very good, and we both enjoyed the Baked Alaska. But given everything,
the meal was very disappointing, and absolutely Not worth the price. Particularly disappointing given that it was our 50th anniversary.
We love the holiday brunch buffets at Bien Shur. The buffet selection is extensive and a good value for the money . You can't beat the views and the employees are all very nice. One caveat: make your reservation well in advance of Mother's Day, Easter, etc. They fill up fast!
My husband and I have grown kids that live out of state. We are alone for most holidays and always look forward to dinner at Bien Shur. We thought we would try the Easter brunch this time and we were both very disappointed. The food looked good but did not have much taste and the lamb tasted very gamey. We were seated in the middle of a walk way and could hardly get in or out at the table. The service was terrible as we had to ask repeatedly for silverware, etc. This is the first time we have experienced this at Bien Shur and for the price, this should never be the case. We will try it again as we have had many good experiences here. Very disappointing this Easter . . .
I generally love coming here, but unfortunately this wasn't their best showing. We waited for several minutes at the hostesses table to be seated, then had an unusually long greet time at our table of over 10 minutes. My date had to ask if we had a server assigned to us, and eventually things got moving. The ambiance of the east facing dining room is lovely, but the service wasn't as good as it has been prior. I hope that they take strides to correct some of the challenges they had, as the food is delightful.
there is no excuse for this "fancy" restaurant to run out of prime rib at 7:30PM,
to me that is absolute disappointment, disaster !!!!!!
Not only that, since you ran out of prime rib, I ordered filet mignon,
but this dish comes with potato portion equal to a joke. $41 ?
How much do potatoes cost?
Your caesar salad does not come with eggs or avocado - is there a reason for this?
Last thing: I saw people using their cell phone light to read the menu and the bill,
I had the same problem too. The lights are inadequate, the candle on the table does not help.
I don't think I will recommend the restaurant to anyone or go back, it was a disappointment.
The host at the front asked us how was everything, her reply that she will forward the issues
to the management does not help. You've been in business long time, these things can not happen.
Our experience was way below of what we expected.
Took my mom and kids (6 and 10) to celebrate a couple special occasions. Staff was very friendly, professional and efficient. Everyone was happy with the variety of meals ordered. We had a very relaxed and pleasant evening!
Our reservation was for 7 PM. We arrived at 6:15 for a drink in the bar. They were busy in the bar and service was horrible. Just before 7 we went to the restaurant side. There were less than 10 tables occupied and the server stated it had been very slow. There were two items on the menu as specials. With almost no customers, we were advised (after we both decided on one) they were out of both.
We ordered other items and wine. Normally, we would have had a baked potato. However, this restaurant does not offer baked potatoes!
When dessert time came, we wanted to order cheesecake. This restaurant does not offer cheesecake!
My wife ordered red velvet cake. I had bread pudding. The server failed to mention that the red velvet cake was large enough for 4 people to eat. We would have shared it if we had known.
Our bill was $197.00 and it definitely was not deserved.
They have a terrific view and the ambience is great. It could be a great restaurant. It is not.
Food was excellent so that’s good start. Second time in a row where the service was slow and not up to the standards that the price would command. Not sure why they can’t bring out water and bread quickly with the busboys and then have the waiter come over especially for the price. Actually no bread came and the water came around 20 minutes after sitting down. No complaints with the food but for $300 meal should be a lot better service.
Over priced. Horrible server .had to move tables because we were sat next to to large parties.verry noise and not romantic at all. Ruined my girlfriends birthday .
Food was just okay, I ordered a filet medium rare and the steak was pretty much well done. Our server was attentive and upbeat.
What a wonderful place. The view of the mountains and surrounding area is spectacular and it showcases Albuquerque beautifully. We will definitely go there again for another special occasion.
I loved every aspect of the restaurant. I’d come back many times more.
Food was delicious & our server, Vincent, was excellent!
Bien Shur is a great place to celebrate a special occasion, in this case my spouses ' birthday. The service was excellent and the view of the Sandia Mountains and Albuquerque from the lounge and restaurant set the mood. We began the evening with an agave Bien Shur margarita in the lounge. For dinner at a window table, we split the Baby Wedge Salad and, for the main course, each ordered the chef's special Steak and Frites. The steak was delicious, as tender as a filet, and was served medium rare. The frites were served with truffle butter and had an excellent taste. We were too full for desert, but were treated with a truffle which came with our bill. A glass of the Joseph Carr cabernet was a perfect complement to the steak. We will keep Bien Shur on our list for special occasions.
Got off to a little bit of bad start. Host had difficult time seating guests, not sure why, restaurant at that time rather empty. Slow to get service in the lounge as we waited for our table. Once seated, our waitress was slow to acknowledge us and to get drink order. She explained they were short handed. Hate to hear that because it’s management’s problem, not mine. Then we wondered I’d the meal and later service would be poor. Things got much better quickly, with very nice appetizers. Our meal arrived quickly enough, great presentation, flavor and follow up from wait staff. Was not hurried through the meal so we thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the overall experience.
My husband and I had a late Valentine's dinner and it was wonderful! I was worried the view wouldn't look as great at night versus at sunset, but the city lights and huge windows were amazing! Our waiter was so professional and friendly, plus could handle and dish back polite sarcastic banter :) we met the chef after he crafted the most delicious tomahawk steak and lobster mac and cheese! Totally going back as often as we can justify :)
Loved the fish dish—Chilean sea bass- wonderful and the view is gorgeous!!!!!???
Allison, our server, was outstanding. First class service all the way!! WE enjoyed the view of the Sandia Mtns, golf course, etc! Sandia seems to be a well managed casino . We will come again for sure!!
The food and views are good. The service was actually below what I'm used to at this price point but not bad. This made for a poor value but still a good meal. Other visits have been better in the past but was honestly disappointed as this was a Valentine's Day meal. It might be awhile before we try again.
David is the best server in town. He made our night!!!
Overall good time and food...crab cake was a little salty, steak and lobster bisque was good.
This is a fabulous place for fine dining. The views are spectacular. The food is amazing and the staff is very attentive.
Very unhappy. Beautiful steak was over salted. Sauce ruined the rest of the steak's flavor. Potatoes tasted like I was eating bacon. Fried beats crunched all over the table when I tried to cut into them. Service lacked class when asking what I wanted to drink, eg. "Do you want some fresh sparkling water (ie pay more money for water) or just plain tap (implying you are cheap if you order this)?" Service was slow and extremely inattentive, eg. water glass was empty too long and too often. Not the type of service or dinner I would expect when attending such a high ranking establishment. Considering the bill amounted to $175 for two people for this service and food, I will not be coming back for dinner.
Local favorite of ours. Great service, excellent steaks, and wonderful views make this a routine venue for us.
FOR OUR 54TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY IT WAS A VERY RELAXING AND ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE .
I am a huge fan of this restaurant but the meal we had that night was by far the worst meal I have had in a fine dining restaurant.
I ordered the fresh pasta with shrimp. The pasta was not cooked; very doughy. The broth or sauce was a gray / green color and was less than appetizing to look at much less eat. My husband ordered the lobster bisque and sea bass and was very ill all night . Maybe they have changed chefs; don’t know.
Been here many times. The sea bass is my go to. It was wonderful as always. My girlfriend had the pasta of the day. Noodles a little mushy and ok flavor.
Love the view. Waiter was a rookie but really trying. No issues.
Great bottle of wine
I'll be back to get my sea bass fix :)
When I made our reservation, I noted that we were celebrating our anniversary. No one was aware of this until the waiter asked and we told him. Otherwise everything was excellent!
Very pricey, amount of food not enough for what you pay for. Ordered Crab cake as an appetizer and paid $15 for a single small piece, I thought it was a ripoff, I was expecting more food for that price. Over all food had a good flavor but probably won’t be coming back.
Meat was over cooked and long delays between courses.
Food was a little over cooked. Service was excellent!
Good food and views as usual but kitchen was very slow. It was good when it got there but 45 minutes for us and others waited over an hour-- is way too long.
Our son was visiting from out-of-state and so we wanted a special place for dinner -- this filled the bill, quiet so we could have a good conversation, good food well prepared. Very relaxing and enjoyable evening.
It has been many years since I dined at Bien Shur. Albuquerque has so few fine dining experiences, and I originally booked Geronimos in Santa Fe. Since it was Christmas, and I was hosting an out-of-town friend, I figured I should give the locals a try. For starters, I asked for a red mulled wine which came 20 minutes into the appetizer and was lukewarm at best, and not very spicy. It tasted like box wine with cinnamon topped and thrown in the microwave for a minute. My friend ordered a Cesare salad, but he complained it tasted nothing like a Cesare salad and was very bland. My panko fried shrimp with sriracha sauce was good, but was common and tasted like a Jinja type preparation. On to the main courses, I ordered the buffalo tenderloin wrapped in bacon medium rare. It was lackluster, not very hot and did not have great flavor, despite the $67 price tag and wrapped in a flimsy piece of bacon. My friend ordered the chicken, which was very basic. We drank one bottle of Pellegrino and did not order any wine, nor were we offered any wine. The best part of the meal was my friend's apple tart with rum raisin ice cream. I asked for the pumpkin mousse to go, and wrapped the leftovers. When I got home, the pumpkin mousse was not in the bag. I called, and left a message, but no one returned my call. We walked out the door paying the bill of $172, with a generous tip, which is disgraceful for the quality of food and level of service. The big red flag was there was no one in the restaurant and I can see why. A wiser choice would have been to eat in the buffet, as the level of food and service would have been identical or better. Our server was very friendly, and passed on our comments to the chef, and she told us the chef makes the salad more bland to accommodate the tastes of a wider audience--clearly a chef with no passion for food as art. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! Michelen star prices at buffet quality presentation and service is not my idea of a good time.
Excellent evening. All was perfect. Birthday plus Christmas dinner.
Very special occasion and a real treat to spend time with my wife in an elegant dining facility. Food, Service, ambiance all excellent/.
Excellent all around especially considering number of guests.
Still great service.
What a lovely view! But, the steak which was ordered medium rare, was much more medium, altho the diner said it tasted excellent and did not want to return it. The vegetarian crepe was delicious. We will go back.
