Biba Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We have gone to and loved Biba's for years, but it felt tired on our last visit. Many people probably love the fact that nothing has changed there over the years, but it felt outdated. Our server was clearly frazzled, even exchanging a few tense words with Biba herself. The food was fine, but not as exceptional as I would have expected or compared to other similarly-priced restaurants in the area.
Had been told by many that Biba was one of the best restaurants in Sacramento, and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent, you cannot go wrong with the gnocchi, it was fantastic. Service was attentive without being overbearing. I will definitely be eating at Biba again.
The food at Biba can be spectacular on some days and just so so on others. For this meal my friend and I both ordered pasta for lunch. Mine was the spinach lasagna. The taste was fine but it was only lukewarm. My friends fettucine was fine but also nothing spectacular. The restaurant was selected because the noise level is generally pretty low and you can have a conversation.
I've been to Biba's probably around 25-30 times over the last 20 years. The service has always been excellent and the food as well. I grew up in an Italian family and I've been to Italy several times; Biba's food reminds me of both.
The decor has not changed much in last 20 years. It's nicer than casual, but not pretentious. Many of the times I've been there, Biba has walked around the dining room and talked with guests. She reminds me of my Nonna!
Frequently there is live piano music and it can get a little loud in the dining room when it, and the bar area, are packed. Overall, it's a great place for a date, special occasion or party with friends. Once my kids were older, about 10 and 12 respectively, I even started bringing them. You don't see a lot of kids here, but it's a fine place to bring them as well. I've got a good feeling that if you brought your toddler, Biba would find some pastina for him/her!
Go on a Thursday or Friday and order the lasagna. It's wonderful! You can split one serving between two people if you'd like, but you won't want to after the first time you've eaten it! The Pasta Carbonara is another wonderfully decadent dish.
I don't know about you, but I'm getting hungry.......
Outstanding service ( George was fantastic), menu explanation was fun and informative. Specials were creative and fantastic - we went on Thursday which is Lasagna night, it was the best i have ever had. Knowledge and recommendation from selection of Italian wins was again fun and informative . Overall great evening and great experience- I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone for any occasion.
We dined at Biba on a Friday night because we wanted to get her famous lasagne. It did not disappoint! It is as good as the reviews say it is!
Service was perfect as well. Water was refilled quickly without asking and the timing of salads and entrees was on point.
The large room can get a bit loud but it's happy noise...everyone is enjoying the evening. Biba is a real gem in Sacramento.
Fantastic food and service! Starting with an appetizer and all the way through dessert, we enjoyed it all! The lasagna was exquisite and my friend’s Porkchop was to die for. Would definitely recommend to friends and family!
I'm sorry to say that Biba has declined, both the food and particularly the ambiance. The dining room was so noisy with large groups that we reseated to the bar where we were treated to a parade of folks who'd dressed for the ballpark not a fine dining experience.
It's insulting to the woman who's spent her life building this restaurant . The food was good but not up to previous visits , at least the service was as always, stellar.
First time at Biba, went for our first anniversary. We arrived early and were seated right away. Unfortunately they didn't tell us happy hour was only at the bar or we would have had a cocktail before getting sat. Also, no one came to our table for a solid 15 minutes to take our drink order. I got up to ask the hostess since I couldn't make eye contact with anyone. After that though the service great and they offered to honor happy hour at our table. We ordered an appetizer which was only okay, a delicious salad to share, and two pastas, the ravioli and the carbonara, both amazing. We ordered gelato for dessert which unfortunately tasted like grocery store ice cream to me and not authentic gelato. Overall, we enjoyed it but would try something new before going back.
My wife had watched Ms.Biba on television back in the day and, unbeknownst to me, she had always wanted to dine there. So on our 39th wedding anniversary we decided to indulge ourselves
at Biba's. 'm just sorry we waited so long. It's not something we could do weekly nor , even, monthly, but it is a treat, indeed. And Markus (?) was extremely delightful. Thank you.
The service was very poor. The bartender seem bothered and our waiter was all over the map. The atmosphere is dated, both the decor and clientele. The food was mediocre. With some many up and coming places in Sacramento, Biba's is not doing anything to remain current and/or impress.
As usual, the Biba experience is one that is a fetching combination of excellent food and superb service. My petrale sole was done to perfection and my colleauges' meals also merited high praise. The wine list allowed me to pick a 2015 Bolletto Pinot Noir from the Russian River which we all thoroughly enjoyed. For the discerning diner, Biba is an absolute treasure. And if you love Bologna, you will also love Biba.
Very knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly server. Delicious pasta paired perfectly with our wine that was recommended by our server. When we ordered our dessert, our waiter put a small candle for my partner’s birthday (we mentioned that he was celebrating his birthday that evening) - a nice pleasant surprise. We’ll definitely be back.
My husband and I went here for our anniversary. We took advantage of the valet parking, a plus for any dining experience in Sacramento. We were seated on time, at a table near the window, out of the way (thank you for that!). Our waiter promptly appeared with menus, a list of specials, and took drink orders. Drinks arrived promptly (although he apologized for the delay!). We asked for the bread basket (worth the $1.50). My husband ordered the prosciutto appetizer, and I ordered the baby gems salad. The gorgonzola vinaigrette was just right, and the toasted pine nuts provided a great contrast overall. We both love fresh pasta, so my husband ordered the ravioli and I ordered the lasagna (served on Thursday and Friday only). Both dishes were simple, yet flavorful. The bolognese sauce on the lasagna had a great texture, with just enough meat to satisfy. Portions were just right, the presentation simple, yet elegant -- nothing over the top, (but food art can be so overrated.) Pacing slowed a bit between the first course and the second, but the restaurant was quite full, and I understand a busy kitchen. We had ordered the bread, and that and conversation kept us busy enough. The wine list features a number of local wines, and the prices were quite reasonable. We enjoyed a very nice evening, with fine food and good service. We recommend Biba and will definitely return.
