It's been a few years since we dined at Biba, and the old standard is still among the best -- if not THE best -- establishment in Sacramento County. The service is polished and professional, the food was fantastic and the ambiance is soothing and old school. Maybe this isn't the hip spot anymore, but it's the best Italian food in the region. And the prices are super affordable. Topping it off, you have an owner -- Biba -- who is on site and willing to step up for a customer. My daughter was celebrating her 22nd birthday there with us, and wanted to salmon special. Unfortunately it had sold out. But our waiter could tell the disappointment on Grace's face, and piped up, "Let me see if I can find another piece or see if Biba doesn't mind giving up the fillet set aside for her." Sure enough, he returned to report that Biba was happy to give up her salmon to help make Grace's birthday dinner super special. You just won't find that in most restaurants these days. I can't recommend Biba highly enough.
Biba restaurant is a classic. If you want to enjoy a wonderful dinner occasion, Biba is the restaurant for you -- delicious food, wonderful wait staff, and delightful atmosphere. Biba has been consistent for years. A real gem in the dining scene in Sacramento.
The short version is the food and service were superb.
Enjoyed Friday lunch with wife, to order Biba's special lasagna.
My date and I had a wonderful experience. We met Biba, had great cocktails and were seated right at our reservation time. Our waiter made great suggestions, including a great Pinot Noir, and the special ravioli as an appetizer. This restaurant is not to be missed if you are going to be in Sacramento!
Had dinner with my wife and parents before a play at the BStreet theater. My mother asked about the calves liver not being on the menu. The server said they serve it at lunch so she would ask the chef. The server returned saying it was no problem. Very nice. All of the meals were fantastic as always.
Great food, great service and an authentic Italian atmosphere. Doesn’t get better than this.
Biba is one of Sacramento's gems and love seeing Biba visit tables to connect with diners and make sure they are happy. Wish there were more restaurants like this in Sac. We truly treasure this special woman and her fabulous restaurant and staff!
Biba's never disappoints. The beet salad and sturgeon were especially notable, and the consistently excellent service by Marcus was appreciated by all.
Our meal and service were truly exceptional. Jeannine is both professional and warm, and extremely knowledgeable. The bean soup she recommended was savory and a warm antidote to the rainy winter weather, and the sea bass was light, cooked perfectly, and accompanied by wonderful seasonal vegetables. The atmosphere was relaxed and elegant, and the entire staff were attentive and friendly. It was a lovely evening.
Biba is always a treat - lovely service, a quiet and more traditional (not stuffy) dining room. Food is always of high quality, though in the recent past the menu has been a bit on the safe, conservative side. The current menu, however, has been subtly tweaked (beyond its usual seasonal change), and is excellent.
If you like old and traditional, this is your place.
Wonderful service and food as always.
Biba is a top tier restaurant. My friend and I dine there once a year, for a "good meal" as she says. Wonderful food, wine and service. It all makes for a perfect evening.
Biba Restaurant is, hands down, the finest restaurant in Sacramento. Pricey, yes, but worth every penny. The food is to die for and the service is top notch. I’ve been somewhat of a regular there since the 1990’s. I love that Biba herself walks the dining room floor almost every night, greeting her guests. Such a classy lady and beloved in Sacramento. I used to enjoy her show on TLC. You would sometimes see her as a guest on Martha Stewart’s shows as well. As Martha would say, “It’s a good thing!”
We were here for a birthday lunch. Service was attentive but not overdone. The wait staff knows the menu and wine list and is able to make recommendations. the appetizer portions are small but they are very accomodating in splitting a plate so everyone at the table has a taste. Entrees,-lasagna, sturgeon, and liver were all excellent.
The evening was very nice. The prices were high but expected. The slab of pig fat on the antipasto platter was not to my liking, so paying $20.00 for food I could not consume was bad.
Never disappointed. The standards are high for all dishes. The atmosphere is casual elegance, and the staff are professional and personable. Plus, you very well might be able to meet Biba sitting at the bar.
Our waiter was fantastic. Really made our birthday lunch!
The food is delicious, service is professional but not stuffy, entire staff is friendly and helpful. And as a plus, it is always lovely when Biba strolls through the room!
I have always loved going to Biba! Always perfection. Calm relaxing atmosphere. Amazing food and top notch service.
We booked a table for 11:45 on Valentine's Day, arrived at 11:40 and were seated immediately. The service was excellent after a somewhat leisurely beginning. This is nice restaurant with elegant furnishings, not a place for a quick lunch. The four of us had liver, salmon and two pasta dishes. Everyone was pleased. My salmon was a fixed price meal: salmon or seabass plus salad or soup for $18. The soup was tomato clam; I'd never had that before and it was very good.
We had a fabulous Valentines Day lunch. I had the best beet salad ever for a starter. It had both golden & red beets, arugula, pistachios, pomegranate seeds, and burrata with a wonderful vinaigrette. My Spaghetti Carbonara was outstanding, as was my husband’s seafood linguine with saffron sauce. He said there was a piece of seafood (bay scallop, shrimp, clam, mussel) in every single bite. All this paired with a Rombauer Chardonnay - who could ask for more? We did! A scrumptious lemon tart with blood orange sauce to share for dessert. Thank you, Biba, for all the years of fantastic meals in such an inviting and beautiful setting.
As always a wonderful experience- the food and space make it truly special!
Our family had an enjoyable evening eating great food, with attentive service and an enjoyable ambiance.
We have always enjoyed Biba as our first choice for downtown dining. The hardest part is making a choice of what to order. It is definitely the type of place one goes to for special occasions.
We had a very nice time at the restaurant, the service was very good, food was excellent and unusual for the US. The tiramisu was amazing!
Minors: the restaurant is noisy probably due to high ceiling and for a restaurant like this I would definitely expect free parking...
Our meals were excellent. I had the skirt steak special and a tomato onion soup. The soup was very fresh a like chunky and by far the best soup I have ever had I could make the soup my entire meal. The gnocchi was also excellent.
The service was not expressive. We mentioned we were celebrating a birthday. The waitress said it was also her birthday. She did not seem happy to be working and it put a damper on our meal. We ordered a cocktail that was very good. It was like a greyhound with another ingredient that I can’t recall. It was very fresh. The only thing was that one of the ice cubes had a piece of a label in it and half ended up in the drink. Not appealing. When we showed the waitress she agreed and then turned it into a joke with the dinners across from us that sad she must gave gotten the label in the drink when she made the drink for the other dinners. I would have thought a replacement drink would be provided.
About 20 minutes after we finished our soup the waitress brought another soup this time with a large block of cheese that was not offered the first time. I felt annoyed that I missed out on freshly grated cheese with my soup. It was another 30 minutes before our meal arrived. I wasn’t in a hurry but the timing was off because of the mistake with the double soup. This restaurant always has great reviews for years so my experience was a let down. I think it was likely an off night for the server.
Very impressed- just moved to Sacramento from San Francisco and food and service was excellent. Will definitely put as one of our favorites.
What a welcomed surprise. It's small and cozy but lively. The staff were very prompt and attentive. Extra love to the valets, they were full of smiles.
Best Calamari fritters EVER. Hard dish to get right, without it getting cold and rubbery before it gets to the table. But no worries here, it was hot and very yummy until the last bite. Plus my fettuccine with scallops, clams, shrimp and mussle melted in my mouth. Picture attached.
If your looking for tasty food and great service, try Biba.
Like visiting an old friend, you always look forward to dinner at Biba’s and are never disappointed. I was sad that my favorite dish, oso bucco wasn’t on the menu, but the skirt steak special more than made up for it.
Two of our party had the gnocchi special and were delighted. Our fourth member had the veal scaloppini and almost ordered a second one, it was that good
Maybe the best special occasion restaurant in Sacramento or maybe just the best period.
Biba has a light, open, artistic ambience. Housed in an old building, big windows, shutters and large canvasses set a casually elegant tone. The dinner is farm fresh. Salads are unusual and fresh. The homemade pasta is delicate and not overly sauced. My husband and I split a small green salad with sliced pears and Gorgonzola, a tart beet salad, a plate of lasagna with a Bolognese sauce and a plate of half gnocchi and half eggplant ravioli in buttery goodness. Wine list superb—tried a Tempranillo from Winters that was divine and very reasonably priced. Dessert: an olive oil cake with homemade ice cream on a disk of blood orange. Slow, easy service that encourages relaxed dining. I can’t say enough to highlight this elegant yet comforting restaurant. We will be back.
If you haven't tried Bubba yet, you must! The Lasagna was too due for and the login with seafood was spectacular. We've lived in Sacramento for 10+ years and have not had the occasion to dinner here, but this is our new favorite restaurant. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and even though I let the restaurant know, they didn't acknowledge it which was a little disappointing, but since my hubby doesn't like much fuss it wasn't a big problem. For others? I think they could have at least said happy birthday. Anyway, we will definitely be going back to try other entrees.
Great service, great food, professional and welcoming, the only restaurant in sacramento i frequent regularly. Biba always present at the bar like always very pleasant and affectionate.Five stars, the best of Sac !
Biba was great, as always!! We took my mom for her annual birthday lunch! She was 87 yesterday! Food, staff and ambiance are awesome!! The desserts were out of this world!! Thanks Biba!!
We waited wait too long to visit this landmark Sacramento restaurant. It lived up to our expectations and then some. Our waitress, Gigi, was personable and friendly and didn't hover, but magically appeared at the moment we needed something.
The food was amazing and creative and I would go back for the spicy grilled prawn salad alone. We ran through the menu having appetizers, salad, entrees and dessert.
Loved every bite and every moment at Biba's.
Excellent meal and service, as usual, very much appreciated by all.
Made reservation because of excellent reviews on Trip Advisor. Met old friends and the evening could not have better -- outstanding quality of food, attentive and friendly wait staff, and an atmosphere that felt comfortable and like we were long term good customers. What a gem of a place. Can't wait to be back in Sacramento again and go back.
Went there for BF's Birthday...it was his first time, so he had nothing to compare it to. I've been before, so my expectations were elevated. The food, of course was very delicious. There was a 1/2 hr wait for my 8:15 res. I generally do not wait but we were given two options for seating; the bar area or the dining room. I preferred the DR, BF of course did not care. The lighting in the bar area is very bright and tables too close together. The host said 10 mins...it was more like 20 (I've hostessed for fine dining rest. so "get" how it works...pro tip: always go with the longer time frame...guests are pleasantly surprised when you seat them in shorter time). The service was fine...I like that they understand clearing used dishes is paramount to the dining experience. My overall feeling was Biba's is not the "fine dining" it used to be. I can't fault Biba's that the clientele does not dress accordingly...but i'm still surprised to see baseball caps, flannel shirts and jeans in nice restaurants.
Biba's is always a standout. Service was excellent. Lasagna was delicious although on the expensive side for lunch.
I had noted on the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday but the birthday was not acknowledged at the restaurant.
Valet parking very handy.
It was a Friday but the restaurant was very quiet ...
