Biba Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We booked a table for 11:45 on Valentine's Day, arrived at 11:40 and were seated immediately. The service was excellent after a somewhat leisurely beginning. This is nice restaurant with elegant furnishings, not a place for a quick lunch. The four of us had liver, salmon and two pasta dishes. Everyone was pleased. My salmon was a fixed price meal: salmon or seabass plus salad or soup for $18. The soup was tomato clam; I'd never had that before and it was very good.
We had a fabulous Valentines Day lunch. I had the best beet salad ever for a starter. It had both golden & red beets, arugula, pistachios, pomegranate seeds, and burrata with a wonderful vinaigrette. My Spaghetti Carbonara was outstanding, as was my husband’s seafood linguine with saffron sauce. He said there was a piece of seafood (bay scallop, shrimp, clam, mussel) in every single bite. All this paired with a Rombauer Chardonnay - who could ask for more? We did! A scrumptious lemon tart with blood orange sauce to share for dessert. Thank you, Biba, for all the years of fantastic meals in such an inviting and beautiful setting.
We had a very nice time at the restaurant, the service was very good, food was excellent and unusual for the US. The tiramisu was amazing!
Minors: the restaurant is noisy probably due to high ceiling and for a restaurant like this I would definitely expect free parking...
Our meals were excellent. I had the skirt steak special and a tomato onion soup. The soup was very fresh a like chunky and by far the best soup I have ever had I could make the soup my entire meal. The gnocchi was also excellent.
The service was not expressive. We mentioned we were celebrating a birthday. The waitress said it was also her birthday. She did not seem happy to be working and it put a damper on our meal. We ordered a cocktail that was very good. It was like a greyhound with another ingredient that I can’t recall. It was very fresh. The only thing was that one of the ice cubes had a piece of a label in it and half ended up in the drink. Not appealing. When we showed the waitress she agreed and then turned it into a joke with the dinners across from us that sad she must gave gotten the label in the drink when she made the drink for the other dinners. I would have thought a replacement drink would be provided.
About 20 minutes after we finished our soup the waitress brought another soup this time with a large block of cheese that was not offered the first time. I felt annoyed that I missed out on freshly grated cheese with my soup. It was another 30 minutes before our meal arrived. I wasn’t in a hurry but the timing was off because of the mistake with the double soup. This restaurant always has great reviews for years so my experience was a let down. I think it was likely an off night for the server.
What a welcomed surprise. It's small and cozy but lively. The staff were very prompt and attentive. Extra love to the valets, they were full of smiles.
Best Calamari fritters EVER. Hard dish to get right, without it getting cold and rubbery before it gets to the table. But no worries here, it was hot and very yummy until the last bite. Plus my fettuccine with scallops, clams, shrimp and mussle melted in my mouth. Picture attached.
If your looking for tasty food and great service, try Biba.
Like visiting an old friend, you always look forward to dinner at Biba’s and are never disappointed. I was sad that my favorite dish, oso bucco wasn’t on the menu, but the skirt steak special more than made up for it.
Two of our party had the gnocchi special and were delighted. Our fourth member had the veal scaloppini and almost ordered a second one, it was that good
Maybe the best special occasion restaurant in Sacramento or maybe just the best period.
Biba has a light, open, artistic ambience. Housed in an old building, big windows, shutters and large canvasses set a casually elegant tone. The dinner is farm fresh. Salads are unusual and fresh. The homemade pasta is delicate and not overly sauced. My husband and I split a small green salad with sliced pears and Gorgonzola, a tart beet salad, a plate of lasagna with a Bolognese sauce and a plate of half gnocchi and half eggplant ravioli in buttery goodness. Wine list superb—tried a Tempranillo from Winters that was divine and very reasonably priced. Dessert: an olive oil cake with homemade ice cream on a disk of blood orange. Slow, easy service that encourages relaxed dining. I can’t say enough to highlight this elegant yet comforting restaurant. We will be back.
If you haven't tried Bubba yet, you must! The Lasagna was too due for and the login with seafood was spectacular. We've lived in Sacramento for 10+ years and have not had the occasion to dinner here, but this is our new favorite restaurant. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and even though I let the restaurant know, they didn't acknowledge it which was a little disappointing, but since my hubby doesn't like much fuss it wasn't a big problem. For others? I think they could have at least said happy birthday. Anyway, we will definitely be going back to try other entrees.
We waited wait too long to visit this landmark Sacramento restaurant. It lived up to our expectations and then some. Our waitress, Gigi, was personable and friendly and didn't hover, but magically appeared at the moment we needed something.
The food was amazing and creative and I would go back for the spicy grilled prawn salad alone. We ran through the menu having appetizers, salad, entrees and dessert.
Loved every bite and every moment at Biba's.
Made reservation because of excellent reviews on Trip Advisor. Met old friends and the evening could not have better -- outstanding quality of food, attentive and friendly wait staff, and an atmosphere that felt comfortable and like we were long term good customers. What a gem of a place. Can't wait to be back in Sacramento again and go back.
Went there for BF's Birthday...it was his first time, so he had nothing to compare it to. I've been before, so my expectations were elevated. The food, of course was very delicious. There was a 1/2 hr wait for my 8:15 res. I generally do not wait but we were given two options for seating; the bar area or the dining room. I preferred the DR, BF of course did not care. The lighting in the bar area is very bright and tables too close together. The host said 10 mins...it was more like 20 (I've hostessed for fine dining rest. so "get" how it works...pro tip: always go with the longer time frame...guests are pleasantly surprised when you seat them in shorter time). The service was fine...I like that they understand clearing used dishes is paramount to the dining experience. My overall feeling was Biba's is not the "fine dining" it used to be. I can't fault Biba's that the clientele does not dress accordingly...but i'm still surprised to see baseball caps, flannel shirts and jeans in nice restaurants.
Biba's is always a standout. Service was excellent. Lasagna was delicious although on the expensive side for lunch.
I had noted on the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday but the birthday was not acknowledged at the restaurant.
Valet parking very handy.
It was a Friday but the restaurant was very quiet ...
Biba is a good Italian restaurant, for Sacramento. The menus were sufficient and the food, while not memorable, was good. Jorge, our server, was excellent. The ambiance is one of a very large open room with a decidedly geriatric crowd, possibly necessitating the brightness of the room. If this is what you’re looking for, Biba’s fits the bill. If not, there’s always San Francisco.
We’ve been enjoying dinner at Biba for several years, and this time was just as good as all the others (even though Biba wasn’t there that night). Don’t miss Biba’s lasagne, only prepared on Thursday and Friday: it is the most delicate (but rich-tasting) lasagne I have had outside of Italy. Exquisite.
Our waiter was excellent. We split our meal and he had it split and served separately which was a nice accommodation. We had the beet salad which was good but the beets were over cooked. The calamari was average, the sauce on the side was tasty. The lasagne was over salted. Had trouble sleeping all night and tasted salt in my mouth for 2 days. The gelato was excellent.
We spend a month every year in Italy and really miss the cuisine when we return to the states so Beba’s is our go to place when we are home. Although Beba’s is more of a fine dining establishment than where we typically eat in Italy, the food always exhibits the pride that Italians take in the food they prepare and serve.
Wow! The pork chop was the best I've had in recent memory and the espresso cheese cake? Outstanding. I had to fight off my table mates because they had the tiramisu, which was good, but not as good as mine. Always enjoy Biba. BTW, Biba herself stopped by the table. Very special.
Biba is amazing with pasta. An acquaintance from Lombardy dined there and told me the pasta was what I wanted. He was so right. The lasagna was astounding. Paper thin sheets with just the right amount of sauce. The beet salad was perfect. Each color beet had a gentle different flavor. The espresso cheesecake was rich and balanced. Service was good. Plates arrived together only once did the staff remove one of our party’s plates without clearing them all. The noise level is very high for a restaurant of this caliber. We had problems hearing across our table of four. That should not be so. The bar in comparison was tranquil. Next time we’ll be in the bar.
The food is "to die for"!! The service is outstanding. We had the lasagne, short ribs and salads. I would only put one other restaurant in the same category and that would be Ruth's Chris. The only negative is the noise level. We are seniors and our hearing isn't the best so it is difficult to hear each other. We had a party of four. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening out with the food being the star.
Went for a business dinner with a career consultant. I asked for as private a table as possible in the reservation, and they seated us in the perfect spot. Nestled in a corner where we could have our computers up on the table, and not feel like we're bringing the office to a restaurant.
The service was impeccable. Very professional, courteous, and prompt. Food was excellent (we had the pan-seared Sea Bass, it was extraordinary) and served timely. Probably the best glass of Pinot Noir I've had in a while, perfect temperature.
All in all this is a first class place, with a very comfortable feel. They even had live piano playing for dinner. Doesn't get much better than that.
Very highly recommended.
