Bettolona Ratings and Reviews
The service was outstanding--friendly and responsive. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxed. The food was quite good but not great. I would have liked the crust on the pizza to be crispier and the pasta to be a bit tastier. These aren't major complaints but rather, what it would take to get to the next level of deliciousness! That said, I'll certainly be back.
This is one of my best neighborhood places. Friendly efficient staff, decent house wine,
excellent pizza's and good value on "food". I am very fond of their lasange, salmon, fettuccine. And lots else. On summer days/evenings they open the doors to the outside -- bad idea as the 1 train rumbles by above ground. No one else seems to mind. Excellent chocolate torte.
Very cozy restaurant with good service in an area where there are not too many choices. Asparagus with the truffle oil was excellent. Gnocchi was just ok. Eggplant parmesan was very tasty. Next time I go, I will definitely order the pizza, it comes from a real wood burning pizza oven.
The staff and Owner/Manager are very friendly and attentive. The walls are covered in tasteful local artists work. The drinks are generous, the food is delicious, authentic Italian cuisine that borders on semi rustic, very hearty. The wood oven is nestled in a corner nook you barely notice it once inside yet the aroma from the hand tossed pizzas wafts in the air (not overpowering, yet subtle enough to whet your appetite) they are usually ready in under 10 minutes. I just love this place. A hidden neighborhood gem.
Food was not good in my opinion. My date enjoyed his meal. My food was extra salty, tasted like it was old. I had the pasta with mussels and ordered the asparagus appetizer. He had the salmon. The only thing I enjoyed was my wine and the servers were friendly. I won't be back.
My husband and I absolutely love Bettolona. We live within a block so we go there or order take-in pretty regularly. In the summer months they have nice outdoor seating. The food is delicious and the staff is always friendly and helpful. One drawback is that Bettolona is located quite close to the (1) train at 125th and Broadway. For this reason the restaurant s easy to get to, on the downside the train can be a bit noisy at times. We've never minded it though. The pizzas are incredible and the desserts are divine. I recommend!
A group of 6 of us had a delicious dinner this past Friday night. Everything we ordered -- appetizers, pastas, pizzas, wine -- was delicious and enjoyable. The service was also exemplary. Despite being very busy, the staff managed to attend to us warmly and without delay. I would mention only that it was a warm spring evening, and the front windows were wide open to Broadway, so the passing elevated subway made for a loud rumble every few minutes. Other than that distraction, we had a great experience.
We loved our dinner at Bettolona last weekend. It'a a short walk up Broadway from the Columbia campus and well worth it. As far as we can tell, the entire staff (from the owner on down) are Italians and they were only too happy to indulge me while I tried out my marginal Italian. The traditional menu (antipasti, primi, secondi, etc.) was authentically Italian and the pasta dishes we saw on other tables looked terrific. We were in the mood for pizza, however, and we were not disappointed. Molto autentico! We also ordered dessert (dolci), including their house made tiramisu which was fantastic. We will return!
This was my first time at this restaurants. My daughters lives around the corner and brought me here because she loves this place. I can understand why. Perfect find for a lovely and simple meal. We so enjoyed sharing a yummy pizza and arugula salad. The atmosphere was
bright and quite on a weekday but there's enough space that I'm sure can handle a large crowd
at Brunch time or Dinner. I look forward to returning here.
Stopped for lunch while visiting nearby colleges. Very convenient to subway stop on a safe main road. Ordered two pasta dishes that were served quickly and with generous portions. Definitely coming back for the pizza sometime as we could see it in the oven!
The food at Bettolona is good but the seating arrangements this past Saturday night were inexcusable. Granted they were busy but I made a reservation and the shoved us in a table for 4 with the 5th chair ion the end which kept getting bumped by the servers and other patrons passing through.
Have seen Bettolona when passing above on the 1 train and finally had a chance to try it for the first time. The interior is very warm and cozy and the staff is gracious and welcoming. Food is great - we tried a few of their thin crust pizzas, as well as the meatball and spaghetti special. Good servings and everything was freshly prepared and delicious. I'll definitely be coming back again!
