Nice welcome, good and pleasant service, delicious gnocchi !
Made a second trip there in less than a month because we had such a great experience. Food is good to very good, and the service is even better. Portions are not huge, but if that's what it takes to keep many entrees at or under $20 (with others not too far off), I will take that trade-off ANY DAY. The portions are plenty for most people, but if you have a HUGE appetite order a pizza or an appetizer. Pizzas from the wood burning oven are very good, as is the lasagna. Creative little twists like figs in the Lemon Chicken make the meal memorable, but best of all is the service. From the owners and/or chefs, to all the rest of the staff - you're treated like a valued regular even if it's your first visit. They take care not to sit you on top of other diners if at all possible, they are very attentive and gracious, and they make you feel at home. Music is great and kept at a perfect volume where you can hear and enjoy it, but you can still have a conversation. Noise level in general is very good. Highly recommended.
While the menu is varied, the foods all share the same quality: they are bland. The eggplant Napoleon was small and undercooked; the Fantastico (cubed beef over pasta) was flavorless and nowhere near approaching fantastic; the Caesar salad was fine; the margarita pizza was lackluster; the molten chocolate cake was authentically cold on the inside. What a shame.
Dinner was delicious. A very cozy atmosphere, attentive service but not over the top. Bettola is a little gem of the upper west side, will definitely return.
Had a wonderful dinner at Bettola, as usual! The service was friendly and fast. The atmosphere was comfortable and cozy. The food was great, especially the pizza! Can't wait to come back when it is a bit warmer and the outside seating area is open!
The food didn't taste like it was professionally prepared.
The beet salad was perfect. My entrée was too small and my friends was average . However, there’s an ambience In this place that reminds me of all New York and I love it. And there was live music. Clearly worth a trip back for a second test.
Form the moment you walk into Bettola, you are made to feel right at home. From the hostess seating you to the waitstaff and servers, everyone has a smile and is very willing to please. The cozy ambiance and brick oven only add to this feeling.
The food is very fresh, with daily specials and a wide variety of choices. The chef made his rounds to our table and started a friendly conversation. We complemented him on the meal and he was very modest. I had a jambalaya with shrimp, chicken and alligator sausage! Excellent!
We concluded our meal with an excellent, fresh dessert - Nutella and banana crepes and coffee. A great finish to a beautiful evening. We will definitely go back again soon!
Overall it was ok. The veal cacciatore is too watery. It was good flavor but not good look to it. The veal was tough and not tender like it should be. I was very disappointed. My date enjoyed his pasta but I was not impressed. We had gnocchi for appetizer which was delicious.
The blonde woman at the front desk - maitre’d was absolutely charming and polished and was so welcoming and really “owned” the restaurant - an asset to the restaurant!
We had another woman - dark hair and high cheek bones who assisted us with cocktails - my guests’ drink was great- I chose the cocktail with gin and prosecco- it was adequate but not outstanding. She was very nice as well and checked in to see how we were doing throughout the meal. However all our dishes were terrific- the scallops, the butterfly shrimp was superb and the flank steak and fettuccine were good. ( no bread was brought together the table - saw guests next to us had a basket)
I sat against the wall and my partner sat across from me and noted this was a busy night but he had a problem with hostesses continually bumping into him without acknowledging or offering apologies or making a few adjustments with the chairs.
These little details are easily remedied and can make the 4 stars become 5!
Was very disappointed with the Salmon dish
Fantastic food, terrific service, perfect location for a relaxing meal!
Can’t say enough great things about Bettola! Is definitely my favorite spot. Great food, super friendly staff. Cozy place, great for dates as well. And if you’re lucky you’ll get to hear live music!
The food was amazing. Great place and the Staff super nice. Overall a great restaurant! Would recommend Bettola anytime and will be going there again!
Several of the pastas are home made. Try them, they are amazing! We shared gnocchi in pesto sauce and a pizza, plus a salad. Decent service but the quality of the food for the price is what makes this worth a return trip. Have to try the pastas and branch out to the other entrees
Location is close to our hotel on 77th and Broadway, food is ok, price is good.
the portion of the entree is small
Delicious dinner, lovely ambience, excellent soundtrack.
My only complaint is that the restaurant is a little dark.
Absolutely wonderful- a true gem!! We could not have had a more lovely experience.
Our meal for 8 was terrible. We ordered two pizza as an appetizer. When both pies looked identical I asked the waitress what happened to the ordered extra cheese, extra sauce and mushrooms. A guy came out from the back and rudely argued with us he would not serve the ordered extra cheese and extra sauce to deliver crispness. (We were charged for the extras anyway.)
Unfortunately, the soggy pizza served tasted like it was reheated in a microwave. Our chicken parm was very tough and hard to cut. And the sides of pasta with red sauce were mushy and stale.
Staff was very warm and accommodating. Several large groups with holiday celebrations—we asked to change tables and appreciated how smoothly they handled it for us in a crowded restaurant. Lovely and vibrant space, meal was very good. Service was attentive to our needs. I was coming from out of town and wanted casual and comfort food restaurant to catch up with a friend. Great West Side neighborhood. I would definitely return on a future trip.
The food was 'okay' not great so that was disappointing. However, what was worse was at the 90 minute mark our waitress came over to tell us that we needed to leave because our table was being used for a larger party coming in at 6:30 pm. There was no indication that would be the case when I booked the reservation. AND no mention was made when they seated us at the time of our reservation. Very poor time management....even Le Bernardin gives you two hours to eat your meal.....needless to say, we won't be going back there.
Everyone at the resturant was very nice and personable.....All of our dishes were delicious and the pasta think Florence....Our dessert was wonderful warm dark chocolate cake with ice cream.....Can’t wait to go back.....
Me and two girlfriends had an early dinner here on a Sunday evening and could not have been more pleased with our entire experience. We were seated early (and I forgot to tell the hostess that we had a reservation) and were delighted by the daily specials as well as the menu overall. We even received a tip from the chef confirming that the special appetizer that drew our attention, “Shrimp Tropicale,” was his person favorite. And, it did not disappoint! In fact, the entire meal through to the decadent desserts (Tiramisu + Dark Belgium Chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream) was delicious. Additionally, the service was friendly & efficient, and the ambiance was lovely (the exposed brick and soft lighting make it very inviting). My friends and I are already planning our next gathering at Bettola.
Ww has never been here before and didn’t know what to expect but was surprisingly very good. I think they are known for their woodfired pizza but we decided to have Andres instead. We started with the Capreae salad and meatballs which went delicious. I had the fish special of red snapper and shrimp baked in the wood fire oven. The light tomato sauce was delicious although the portion size was a bit small. I was glad we had the appetizers. My husband & newphew had the chicken Parmesan which looked and tasted delicious. The chicken was a nice meaty piece, not pounded down too thin with a good crust and the sauce was also really good. I would recommend
What a FIND! In NYC for Thanksgiving, wanted a special dinner as we had never been to restaurant for Thanksgiving, and Bettola was terrific! Service, the food, the parings of wine, all way above expectations.
The food was excellent and had enough variety for the adults and kids in our large party. Gnocchi was light and fluffy and delicious, but needed the salt of the Parmesan cheese offered at the table. Very limited beer selection, slightly better wine options, but still somewhat limited. Restaurant is tiny and has a few too many tables, so it feels fairly cramped.
Enjoyed our meal very much before going to a concert nearby. The food was delicious. My husband and I shared the meatball appetizer which was tasty and I had the chicken penne as my entree which was very flavorful and just the right size portion. The restaurant is small and tables are very close together but it was fine. Maybe not ideal for an intimate occasion like an anniversary though.
We love Bettola, and go as often as we can. The food is excellent, the service is friendly and prompt, and it's a very convenient UWS location. The ONLY cavil I have - and it's a small one - is that they pack the tables a little too closely together. It's a very crowded space, usually pretty noisy, and difficult to move around in. But hey, that's New York, I guess. Anyway, we'll certainly be back!
The lasagna was cool in the middle. The waitress said sometimes they serve day-old pasta that they heat up. If I wanted leftovers I could have stayed at home. Other than that, it was OK.
Great restaurant. Delicious Italian food at with reasonable pricing. Space is a little tight.
Great food! Great drinks!! It is kinda crowded, but I’d recommend it.
Fun atmosphere, very relaxed, nice Italian menu and terrific wood burning pizza!
Needed a carb fix for family friend who was running the NYC the next day. So where else, but Bettola? A couple of us were a little early, no problem: they sat us anyway. The recommendations were perfect, and the food excellent. Affordable wine list and reasonable prices for entrees, what more could you ask for? Finishing off with an obligatory yet exceptional Tiramisu completed the meal in resplendent fashion.
we shared 2 pasta dishes and were delighted with the flavors and freshness - portions were an appropriate size - we ate outside on OCTOBER 13th !!! we had an early reservation but after a while the place filled up and the service slowed down a bit - but really nothing negative and will definitely return
Such great food, reasonable prices and great service. Love this place!
The food was not good. The pasta was overcooked and although it said "homemade" it tasted like store bought. The pizza was undercooked and doughy. The restaurant was not crowded and maybe that should have been a hint.
Fine. But kitchen closed at 10; our reservation was at 9:40pm. Wait-staff hurried us through our meal. Tomatoes on the Caprese were not ripe. I'm not a food connoisseur, and I could tell it was just decent.
A friend loves this restaurant and raves about the food so I went with her though Italian is not my first choice as a rule. The ambience was pleasant, we were greeted warmly and chose to sit at the sidewalk cafe on a lovely evening which was somewhat noisy. My big disappointment was the food. The eggplant Napoleon which I selected as an appetizer was so covered in red sauce and cheese that I couldn't taste the eggplant (one of my favorites) at all. For the main course I ordered the sliced steak marinated in spices with asparagus and mushrooms over fettucine. It was completely tasteless. Won't be back.
