Bethesda Curry Kitchen
The doses are fantastic. All of the vegetarian dishes were delicious.
Finally found the best dosa in DC! Bethesda Curry Kitchen features cuisine from Hyderabad as well as other parts of India. There are plenty of Indian restaurants in Bethesda, and a few excellent ones in DC (Rasika, for example), but none of them come close to making masala dosas the way we had them in Hyderabad. Warm, crispy "pancake" wrapped around a potato / curry mix with coconut chutney and sambar. This restaurant is a neighborhood gem, and was packed on a recent Saturday night. Give it a try!
This is a real find....a family-owned and run business in he heart of Bethesda. All of the main dishes were delicious as was the papri chat appetizer. Sorry we didn't find it sooner.
Poor service and average food - booked though open table but somehow reservation was ineligible for points
Authentic And delicious Indian food. Works for vegans through meat eaters. Many dishes are gluten free. Have eaten dinner and at the lunch buffet- loved both.
Love this place—fabulous food!
Our first disappointing dinner here, particularly so as we were introducing two good friends to this restaurant! The biriyani had not been cooked like biriyani should be; it was nothing more than white rice stirred together with chicken - the white rice was still visible on the platter! The rogan josh and other dishes were not up to the usual expectations. The service was slow and stretched with just one server responsible for all ten tables of customers, including a large group of ten or so. We are long time patrons of Chef Anil and sincerely hope that this was just an off night!
I have never been to this restaurant. I thought it was one that I had dined at.
The food was absolutely wonderful. The husband and wife team were great. The lamb saag and butter chicken was what we ordered and both dishes were delicious.
Despite the folornly empty dining room the food took some time, wait staff needed reminding of forgotten drink orders, forgettable food (except for ensuing upset tummy upset) with the exception of an ok vindaloo. Failed to live up to the other reviews so maybe an off night?
Superb chef. Try the masala dhosa or either of the Thalis. Order extra rice or naan. Our service was good and the food came in a reasonable amount of time. If you want authentic excellent Indian cuisine, this is the place to go.
Short staffed - only one server for entire restaurant. Perhaps someone didn’t show up for work on a Sat night.
The dining room was cold, the service slow and the food average. I estimated that there was seating for 50 with about 25 guests when we went. There was only one waitress, who though pleasant, was unable to cope, all the more so because she seemed to be dealing with a number of takeaways at the same time. We actually never got two items we had ordered even after reminding her. Sadly, the food didn’t compensate for the shambolic service.
The attentive service and consistently excellent food prepared by this master chef makes Bethesda Curry Kitchen my only choice for authentic Indian cuisine. The samosas (and sauces), the raita, the chicken corgi and lamb vindaloo are the best.
A nice enough neighborhood restaurant, but better Indian food can be got at many other places.
Food was very good and reasonably priced. There was one dish that was not too our liking (a bit bitter than what we were expecting) and the chef offered to replace with another dish...and did so quickly. The only knock here is that the service during dinner time on a Saturday night was slow. We were hungry and eager to dig in! Once the food came though all were happy.
Good and varied selection of foods in the lunch buffet including standards like butter chicken and tandoori chicken and ones I often don't encounter like samosas and broth heavy lentil soup (rather than thicker lentil curries). Food tasted great despite being out for a bit (I sat down around 12:45pm). There was ample seating despite their being multiple larger groups dining.
Awesome wait staff. Very quiet environs despite the location. Amazing food. Highly recommended.
Food was ok, but restaurant was dirty and noisy. We were a couple, but were sat near a noisy kid's birthday party when many other tables were open. We were there for dinner but the buffet table nor the floor were cleaned up from lunch.
The restaurant appears to do most of its business through takeout, and the wait staff spent much more time on takeout orders than they did noticing signals from the table. Chicken biriyani and lamb rogan josh were both very good; spinach appetizer was very dry and rather tasteless. Service was quite slow.
Great Indian food in a friendly setting. Cuisine is just challenging enough, satisfying to those with little experience in eating Indian food as well as aficionados.
We LOVE Bethesda Curry Kitchen. A true neighborhood gem. Chef/owner Anil and his wife go out of their way to make you feel at home. Delicious food.
Really well balanced Northern and Southern Indian food at good prices it a great location. Very quiet place which tolerated our hungry toddlers (their mess and noise) with grace and sincere concern that we were all happy. The toddlers thought the mango lassis were awesome!
The chef/owner came to my table. We discussed the menu and he made recommendations. I am lactose intolerant and he explained which menu items to avoid. I was able to try new delicisous selections without regret. Well done! I will be back.
Best Indian food in Bethesda. Dosa is amazing. Try the Spinach pakora
Very good food at a reasonable price for their lunch buffet. The best Indian restaurant in Bethesda
Wonderful experience and delicious food! The Chef-owner Anil is a great host and an even better chef. Highly recommend this gem in the Woodmont triangle in Bethesda!
Friendly service. Staff went out of their way to make our experience enjoyable. The food was excellent though some of the buffet meat dishes were a little cool, though it was 10f outside.
It was average Indian cuisine. We had better cuisine.
The service was good.
Good variety of quality Indian food. I was alone; so, the fact that they had a sampler of about 7 items including an appetizer and desert was great. Normally, when I go to an Indian Restaurant with family and friends, we order multiple dishes and share. I was able to do that by myself. Service was friendly. Ambiance was comfortable but nothing special. Then again, I was by myself - I was there for the food, not the atmosphere.
The menu is fabulous...delicious food at amazing prices. The Southern Indian offerings are a nice addition.
Food was delicious and menu spanned a wide variety of Indian dishes. Spicy dishes were very favorable and not just "hot".
Delicious Indian food with healthy ingredients at a good price. What's not to like? This is an excellent restaurant!
Delicious, delicious, delicious! Comfortable, warm, easy place with a really friendly staff and crazy good Indian food.
The food is similar to the simple street food one finds in many Indian cities; the service lacks polish, but it is friendly; the decor is spartan. My main reason for not planning to return is the extremely limited list of wines by the glass: two red (merlot and cabernet sauvignon) and two white (pinot grigio and chardonnay). I had the cab and the chard and was very disappointed in both. The restaurant would make more money if it spent a little more on its wine purchases and raised the price by a dollar a glass. . .
A really pleasant dining experience. Went on a Friday night with my wife and two girls (10 and 13). We all thought the food was great. And the service was above par. Also very reasonable prices compared to the other Indian restaurants in Bethesda. We'll definitely be back.
Excellent Food! Will definitely return.
Amazing, authentic Indian food at a remarkably low price. My favorite in the DC area. Do not be fooled by the appearance. What it lacks n fancy surroundings, it makes up in taste.
Good food! Vindaloo was nice and spicy and samosas were also good. Nice menu selection beyond the usual dishes at the neighboring Indian spots. The place itself used to be a pizza joint and it looks very much like one, still - the dining room could use a makeover to make it more home-y. The place was quiet when we were there but they seem to get lots of take-out/delivery orders. Staff were very attentive. We will come back.
